  • I'm learning the chanter

  • hi, thanks for the informative video. im interested in playing bagpipes but my hands are quite small, i can play a B flat generations penny whistle if i use the second segment of my fingers. is there any hope for me?

    thanks

  • PLEASE HELP. Is there anyway that I can play the highland bagpipe without making that low noise before you play? Like before the actual sound comes out it makes a low duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu noise. lol. Is there anyway to just play right away? Also, How do I stop playing quickly, like to a fast halt? thanks.

  • @d1v4dPwnz Lol that low noise is a drone. It's part of the instrument.

  • @ukieflip I kno but i found out how to do it. I guess I worded it wrong

  • @d1v4dPwnz

No. That's the air flowing through the pipes. It needs to flow, otherwise you won't hear any sound.

  • @lordrevan57 then why do some pipes tap the top of the drones and you cant hear them anymore :o

  • @d1v4dPwnz you can close off the drones from inside the stock BUT you are then pnly playing half the instrument.

  • Why the subtitles? Most English speakers also understand American!

  • FUCK expert vllage. i hate all their vids. have yet to find ONE good one.

  • Can u post a video or even send me one of how to propily do a crunluith amack... Spelling??

  • Thats right... 7 Fingers, 1 Thumb....

did you notice the extra hol under the right pinky, behind??

    bet you didnt.

    Thank you for the tutorial

  • yes there are 8 holes but there are 9 notes just to let the beginers know btw i know all my scale dublins g grace note the lot i cant play loch rannoch

  • 8 holes

  • Comment removed

  • he said 9 but meant 8... or did you see him covering 9 wholes?^^

  • i lucky my dad plays the bag pipes and so does my grand dad who is on the cover of a record plus he has played in the tatoo 4 time so he is going to teach me

  • what tattoos??

i watch alot of the ones from edinburgh

  • the edinburgh castle tattoo

  • yeah lol, i know that hahaha

    but what years??

  • @RockLegendOwns oh about 15 years ago lol

  • haha thats heaps good :)

    keep on playing mate :)

hopefully i can join ya lol :D

  • I never realized how completely clumsy my fingers are! I'll just be happy when I get to the dying cow stage...

  • um.. it has 8 holes that get covered, not 9. 7 on the front, and one on the back (thumb). and the two books you show, really aren't interchangable. The Rythmimic Fingerworks is an -Exercise- book, not really a tutor book, the other from the National Piping Center is a tutor book.

  • He is talking about the hole near the bottom, on the side of the chanter.

  • Nice tutorials. Can you please make a tutorial on how to wrap the hemp twine on the chanter and reed stock?

  • Mh, I wonder how there could be 9 holes and 2 free fingers :)

  • @akithered there is only 8 holes on a bagpipe chanter

  • @temperatur00 Yes... That's my point said in non-sarcastic way :)

  • @akithered u dont use two of the holes

  • @trainmaster4884 sorry, but I don't have 11 fingers :D

  • @akithered

You have to hold the thing somehow. BI it doesn't just float up to your lips so you can play it.

  • @akithered the air has to come out one of the holes :D I WIN!

  • @AlexPeff ahaha really nice! :D

  • @akithered no clue if that's true with what he was explaining though :P

  • Is the one you are using a longer practice chanter or the normal size?

  • Ah well i take thae oher one. Its green with smal yellow and red stripes (its said they are Rosewood tartan!?)

  • Excellent tutorial, thank you. I've just purchased my first set of bagpipes (including chanter) so this tutorial was very useful for me. Now I just have to figure out how to get a sound out of it that doesn't sound like a dying cow....

  • LOL im bussy with it aswell what package did ye bought? Ebay? rosewell?

  • How DID you guess? :p Ebay rules sometimes....

  • Well Rosewood are they? green tartan rosewood tartan cover?

  • Yip, they're Rosewood, but no, it's the Royal Stewart tartan. (mainly red and black)

  • You've just blown your money on a Pakistani Bagpipe then?

  • Probably, but I sold them a month later and got more than I paid for them, so...

(Sold because I was in desperate need for money, and I was buggered if I'd sell my harp...)

  • hahaha Nice one! (Y)

  • @Elfdaughter I play chanter pretty well, just learning how to get on pipes now. you just need a steady breath. Learn basics, scale, grace notes, doublings ect. Depending where u r, find a band group ask ppl for lessons. Im sure ppl will help you out.
