Sting should've won this. No excuses. He's got sooo much more talent than Flair. Flair's a wannabe who's blinded everyone with his fancy suits, his womanizing, his charisma and his mic skills. They've come to ignore his SHITTY in-ring ability and let that cloud their judgment, IMO. I mean, wtf did Flair deserve 16 fucking world titles in WCW for??

I respect Sting, Bret Hart, Kurt Angle, and so many other greats. I DON'T have much respect for Flair as a wrestler, only as a personality.

no company will ever have the impact that wcw had to professional wrestling. i can only hope that the TNA / WWE feud will result in good competition and MORE wrestling. the golden age is over with. flair and hogan and macho man and the other classic champions are too old to go any more. we can only hope the newer kids in the biz respect their history and heritage! long live wcw's memory.

Sting was slated to win this match... till Hogan arrived. Then the plan was revised so that they could do Flair/Hogan right away.

Then, Hogan and Flair were supposed to have 3 matches. With Hogan winning at Bash at the Beach, Flair winning at Halloween Havoc, and Hogan winning it all back at Starrcade. But Hogan is an ass and used his creative control to tell the writers that, "The fans are not ready for me to drop the title so soon." Even though he would win it 2 months later.

so eventually the WCW International World Championship was renamed the World Heavyweight Championship? since that is the same title currently used in WWE.

@TheNaturalSelection The International title was the old NWA title, but WCW had split from the NWA at this point so they renamed it the International title. The WCW title was the one they created when Flair left to go to the WWF in '91 with the old Big Gold Belt in tow. Flair came back and won the new WCW title from Vader and Sting won the International title from Rick Rude I think. Confusing I know, but thankfully the united them and ended the confusion.

@stinkoman78 -Actually WCW had startred recognizing there onw world champ back in Jan of 91 when Flair beat Sting at a house show in East rutherford NJ. Flair was considered to be holding 2 titles at the time as the NWA and WCW titles were considered seperate. Flair would not be stripped of the NWA title untill he started wrestling for the WWF in SEptember of 91 after being fired by WCW in July of 91

@NeverwinterKnight77 They cheered Flair because when it comes to the crunch Flair was WCW/NWA personified (historically), if Flair so happens to be face in WCW territory (Flair Country) NO one got cheered over him not even Sting.

So it wasn't that the fans disliked Sting, it was just Flair's overwhelming popularity that caused this.

I remember my dad telling me about WCW when I was about 3 or 4 years old. He had a bunch of old tapes of WCW PPV's from 1989, 1990, and 1991. The early Sting vs Ric Flair matches were among some of the first matches I watched with my dad and his friends. I also got into WWF when the Attitude era started.
