Hi, everybody! B.F. WAS on my best 10 list…until I saw him an hour ago at the concert in Kiev, Ukraine. It just happens that I am a US citizen flue over to listen to my fav. His voice sounds live even better than on his records and his group did the best. I bought flowers, arranged like Great Britain flag and brought with me my precious CD that I cherish for 15 years.
I knew all the words, and sang all the way with him. He saw it. Well, I worked for British company in US, and had contacts with GB people in America; they seemed snobbish and unjustifiably supercilioused toward even Americans, Russians or Indies. Well, all I wanted was his autograph, but he ignored me singing at the “borderline” under the scene all the time, and screaming congrats to his coming Birthday.
. After the concert, like 30 people were waiting with flowers for the autographs. He never picked up any flowers from Ukrainian crowd and ignored screaming fans. After B.F. disintegrated some rude guy, dressed like “White Power” dropped 2-3 papers with printed autographs in the crowd and shouted with arrogance: “That’s all you have got”.
I started crying from disappointment with my CD, flowers and marker. But who cares??? Eastern Europeans are second class fans? Is he too high to realize who’s paying 400$ to see him in the first raw? Or buying his records? Or paying for your “official-merchandise”???? We are!!!! Shame on you, Bryan Ferry, you just showed to your fans our unimportance to you!

Let's not forget the album cover is Kate Moss, upside down, in a modern photo representation of Manet's 'Olympia', which itself was based on Titian's 'Venus of Urbino'. Venus, 'The Empress' in tarot, and of course, reversed... ??? Anyway, I'm sure the intoxicated glitterati that stumble around Mayfair at all hours will probably love it... :-|

I've loved Ferry/Roxy for 30+ years, seen him / them live many times, probably know a hell of a lot more about his music than you do, and I don't consider myself to be an ex-fan. I just think that this record doesn't really go anywhere and am posting an honest opinion. Not my intention to upset you or him... the truth sometimes hurts, and the Emperor's new clothes are looking a bit see-through this time around IMHO.

'Witty', I would dispute, although, if you are who you purport to be then cultivating a humorous reaction to negative reviews can surely only be a good thing. It may well save you thousands on psychotherapy in later life!

Venus - the 'Goddess of Love', reversed... the negative side. Hmm. I'll leave that to anyone who's interested to investigate. Freud would indeed have had a 'field day'. Have decided that this all does warrant further investigation, and will be buying the album after all.

The thing is, Bryan's an aesthete. I don't believe for one minute that he would release anything this world-weary sounding without being precisely aware of what it was he was doing. Leaves me to conclude that's exactly what he intended... Art needn't be beautiful, but it should make you think... well, I suppose this already has. Then again, I admire Munch's 'The Scream', but would I hang it on my wall? :-)

@lightmachine That's the feeling I got... This track feels so far removed from reality, it's quite surreal, and (sigh), maybe that's the intention... Let's not forget the album cover is Kate Moss, upside down, in a modern photo representation of Manet's 'Olympia', which itself was based on Titian's 'Venus of Urbino'. Venus, 'The Empress' in tarot, and of course, reversed... ??? Anyway, I'm sure the intoxicated glitterati that stumble around Mayfair at all hours will probably love it... :-|

Love it , wasnt sure what originals to expect after the Dylanesque album ( which was great )
This song , would have fitted in well on the Frantic album perhaps , although it is more daring / provocative
Have to agree with " magnifiscent7 " , its pure Ferry.
The stranger than strange vocals are still hauntingly cooler than cool , as is everythin else BF does....

Have just previewed some of the other tracks from the album on iTunes, and there appears to be much better material than the aforementioned on there... which begs the question... why this one as first single? There... is that nice enough for you? :)

Dear @leonaofficial. No, I'm not. I've loved Ferry/Roxy for 30+ years, seen him / them live many times, probably know a hell of a lot more about his music than you do, and I don't consider myself to be an ex-fan. I just think that this record doesn't really go anywhere and am posting an honest opinion. Not my intention to upset you or him... the truth sometimes hurts, and the Emperor's new clothes are looking a bit see-through this time around IMHO.
