@moogpunk re: what's sloppy. I wouldn't use "sloppy"; but there's a few things that make it mediocre to me. Band played it well enough that they must've rehearsed & be fairly familiar, I don't believe it was played cold & off the cuff (I see bands play, practice & record most days).

Things that made it mediocre: off key vocals, wrong lyrics & off timing here & there. It could have been great; but looked like half off them were too smashed.

1. It was a long night, they performed a 15-piece set right before this

2. I DOUBT they rehearsed this. They probably picked it up, played through once.

3. THIS WAS FOR FUN. The Cars, who are one of the best bands of the 80's, would NOT have been angered, but flattered to know that today's generation is still interested and influenced by their sound after all these years.

They felt like trying something different, and they did. Sure, it was not the greatest of covers, but I think the crowd certainly enjoyed it. I get Julian and Jarvis aren't the best singers (Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Julian did 12 yagers before performing), But the rest of the band played it well enough for a song not in their repretoire

Well the arguments people put forth don't make sense. There's a difference between creative differences and sloppy vs good playing. When talking about technique, opinions are far less important. There is sloppy playing and there is good playing. There's no if and's or buts. And this is sloppy playing. If you disagree, it's probably because you don't know much about music technique.
