Jimi Wins, Eruption is pretty free flowing.. Bold as Love is like jazz in the way that you gotta keep up with the chords and improvise based on chord tones.. and the changes go pretty quick. If you try to stay with it.. I can improvise something similar to eruption but i play so much jimi and i can't improvise on bold as love.. or at least not for long and actually sound good...

EVH gets short changed. People only judge him by Eruption. He has a long list of great songs that have lasted over time and he is a great rhythm player. Hendrix is great too but he has the advantage that he died in his prime and fans never saw his skills fade and get surpassed as has happened to EVH. Having owned most VH and JH albums I would take EVH, but I won't say anything bad about JH. He's also a great player and songwriter who has stood the test of time.

Eruption is heavily inspired by Hendrix's Woodstock Improvisation. Almost to the point of being a ripoff.

Now, I seen countless YouTube teenage tapper shredders do Eruption to the tee. But I've yet to see anyone get inside of a song like "Little Wing" the way Jimi does. Therein lies the difference.

id agree with that i saw some old footage from the filmore and hendrix was doing an early form of guitar tapping but ritchie blackmore was also doing that in 69 ive seen footage from deep purple rithcie invented sweep picking anyway without hendrix and blackmore van halen wouldnt have been as good as he was

Depends on what you're into. Pure Technique or Deep Soul. No matter what you dig Jimi put the balls in rock guitar. Everybody who came after will always be under that shadow. Eddie's playing is very clean & technical while Jimi's playing is lyrical & poetic. The were both a product of there times.Something for everybody.

Tough to call as IMO there are different measures of a good solo. Technical difficulty & speed are one measure but also originality and whether the solo makes sense - ie. does it fit if it is part of a song (e.g. many Beatles solos can be played by a novice, but are really well thought out) or If its a solo piece, is it dynamic and does it take the listener on a ride? Anyhow, my preference is for Eddie's solo because it was so original for the time and hangs together well as one piece.
