you sure they are small coconut crabs?...I look like Coenobita Brevimanus:The top is thick and short tongs on the way in which the hermit crab walks, walking leans toward the heavy tongs...The coconut crab has more elongated than the pincer...belonging to these particulars, the coconut crab and Coenobita brevimanus are equal
Actually, when the coconut crab gets too large it doesn't seek another shell and lives the rest of its life "shell-less". Imagine trying to find a shell when your body is about a foot long and 5 - 6 inches wide. Cocount crabs can weigh up to 9 lbs and have a legspan of 3 ft. I'll post a vid of an adult once I get a decent one.
Coconut crabs (Birgus latro) start to live naked ( without shell ) when they reach the size around 1cm (10mm - or approximately about the size of small land hermit crabs ) and the exoskeleton on the abdomen surface has been hardened ( around 2 years old )
they look peaceful

Yes, I believe the proper identification of this hermit crab has been established already. Thank you.

This is for sure a fully grown Coenobita brevimanus ( Asian/Indonesian Purple Pincer land hermit crab ) not a juvenile Birgus latro ( Coconut crab ).

Imagine when they grow bigger, and none of the shells will fit them any more...
Talk about having a case of shell-shock.
