The GOP is out of power right now. There is nobody within the party capable of taking on Obama in 2012. Normally, the previous VP candidate would be the anointed candidate, but no serious observer thinks Sarah Palin can win. I guess for you opponents of free speech, political power is so important--you need to have it all? Executive, legislative, ownership of car companies and banks, AND all media outlets? Good for you!
you mean the educated, politically aware media. unlike the trolls from the "christian"republican south who believe ONLY their uneducated, bigoted, intolerant preachers?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Of course. Anyone who disagrees with Obama is uneducated, bigoted and intolerant. In fact, anyone who opposes huge deficits, crushing government debts, high unemployment, bank bailouts, and coddling terrorists like Khalid Sheikh Muhammad is uneducated and politically unaware. They should know that none of that matters because we now have a person of color in the White House with a pro Hugo Chavez leftist agenda. He has a winning smile and a nice family. Put on a happy face!!!
Hmmm? Huge defecits, crushing government debt, high unemployment and bank bailouts. Doesn't that describe the Bush administration or at least the result of their policies? Didn't the economy collapse under the Bush administration? Wouldn't that precipitate that unemployment was going to get worse, way worse, in the following months? Well, at least he didn't coddle terrorists. He had them tortured, and then stood before us and the world and proclaimed "The United States does not use torture."
So huge deficits, crushing government debt, bank bailouts and high unemployment are excusable because the recession started under Bush? I thought Obama was going to clean up Bush's mess! Instead, he's made it much worse. And it looks like our mad as hell electorate is going to throw out a whole new group of bums next November only this time they'll be Democrats mainly.
@electango actually the worst part was prevented by the bailout (TARP)and the stimulus bill. if it was for the government taking action then we'd all be in breadlines like during the Great Depression. thank whatever Deity you ascribe to that that was prevented by the actual wise parts of government. the one's that we hear from though frame it as the worst thing ever to save the country from economic collapse
It is complete speculation that the Obama Bush Wall Street bailout prevented a total economic collapse. It is clear that the Obama Bush Wall Street bailout benefited the same people who brought on our economic troubles and gave them huge bonuses. And that some of those people gave huge campaign contributions to Obama most notably Goldman Sachs. And it is clear that people are still losing jobs and their homes and that the Obama Bush Wall Street bailout does nothing to help those people.
Did I say they are excusable? No, those are your words, designed to make your argument seem viable. They are unexcusable, but just because a new administration took over doesn't mean that the clock starts over again at zero. Obama's spending has largely been because of the Bush legacy. If we could zero out the national debt on inauguration day the defecit would not look that bad, but of course that is not how it works. I just wish we had the 6-700 Billion back that we spent on Iraq. Bush=Liar!
Obama ignored the huge increase in joblessness which began to occur under Bush and continues today. He theorized that his health care reform would save so much money for society that it would encourage jobs creation. As his health care reform failed and his prospects in the next election cycle began to look bleak, he has rediscovered joblessness. Nothing Bush did excuses Obama's incompetence. Real people are losing real jobs and real homes thanks to Obama. And BTW Iraq is now Obama's war.
Please... you're just showing you know little about how the job market works. We are in the midst of a recovery from a pretty serious recession. Job creation always lags behind. What Obama is focused on now is helping people retain their employment.
And health care reform would open up more jobs. Do you know how medical schools work? So many people that are qualified to be doctors don't make it because they only take a certain amount of students a year, thanks to insurance companies
Health care reform may or may not open up more jobs. Nobody will ever know. Because Obama handed the job of health care reform over to the corrupt thieves of both parties who run the US Congress and then sat back and watched them let their lobbyist financial backers destroy the whole effort. Can you imagine real leaders like Lyndon Johnson or Franklin Roosevelt running things like that?
Recessions come and go. Administrations can make them worse than they otherwise would have been by stifling the recovery. This is what Obama is doing by printing money and giving it to banks without requiring that the money be lent out to people who will put that money to use hiring out of work people. The banks instead sat on the money. Obama mostly ignored the recession while he focused on the health care reform which he botched. Obama is a failure worse than Jimmy Carter.
Unlike you, I have no sympathy for terrorists. People who hijack airplanes and fly them into buildings or blow up bombs in train stations should receive the death penalty after conviction. I wouldn't torture them however. I'd hang them in public like they do in Syria and Iran.
Hanging people who blow up innocent civilians is what responsible governments do. For example, the testicle bomber who tried to blow up the airplane over Detroit should not have been read his Miranda Rights and given a court appointed lawyer. He should have been sent to military prison and put before a military tribunal. If found guilty he should have been hanged. The way to cut down the population of rats is to kill off the rats.
I find it really funny that the Republicans try and follow the lead of the Dems. First it was Hillary...then to compete the Repugs pick Palin. Obama, a Jr. Senator becomes the President...they trot out Brown. Has anyone heard Brown speak?
Try Al Jazeera English, especially programs like 'Inside Iraq'. Sharp, cut through the red tape, bullshit and slogans questions with dito answers and if not, a sharp, knowledgeable cut by the journalist. Just try it!
@electango: whatever the validity of your unsubstantiated claim may be, the thrust of my argument is, that nearly all of the American newsmedia are dominated by high-on-slogans, low-on-fact-and-context corporations, where yelling and being abusive is the standard. Notably Al Jazeera's 'Inside Iraq' is a pleasant exception. If AJ or any newscorp is biased, also listen to a relevant other one. Point is: it's near to pointless to listen to any American newscorp. They are 'all' columnists.
All journalists are biased. Al Jazeera is anti Israel for instance because its audience is primarily Arab. America has many excellent journalists. Perhaps you need to broaden your approach so you can find them.
@electango: if your point is that every journalist has a filter through which he perceives the world, you're right: everyone has such a filter. But there's a big difference between having ònly a filter and also trying to seriously bring a argumented, fact-based and substantiated point of view. Fox, as probably the worst of the US news-corpses, is only filter.
FOX is the most anti Obama Administration major news organization. It is healthy that our Nation has an anti Administration news source because that way corruption is more likely to be exposed. Al Jazeera never ever criticizes the government of Qatar. FOX employs serious journalists. If you look for serious news you can find it on FOX. Pro government critics knock FOX for employing people like O'Reilly and Glenn Beck, but Beck and O'Reilly are not journalists. They are commentators.
John Stossel, Shep Smith and Geraldo Rivera are on the staff of FOX and they know the MEANING of serious journalism. I only go to FOX for opinion. It is weak on news. However, your statement shows either ignorance or hyperbole.
@electango: Why do you always spuriously bring up Al Jezeera? The only comparison I can see is that Fox News would like to be the Al Jezeera of the US.
Why don't all Americans just tune in to some serious broadcaster like Al Jazeera English. It's the difference between the local local local 16 page newspaper (incl 12 pages of ads and 2 pages advertorials) and serious, global newspaper. Americans might learn something from it. And maybe that's also the problem...
I say the same thing, but suggest CBC or BBC news.
They are both Crown Corporations and receive funding from their federal governments. As a result, profits are not the number one concern. Journalism is.
@kingsdun: yes, but it's a partial truth. BBC Worldservice is paid for by the British government, State department if I'm not mistaken, and I'm afraid it shows. But ofcourse rather better than the usual US media-corpses (plural for corp). Best is the mix of the lot of them, I suppose.
i agree. mainstream american media seems to focus on ratings and keeping the view interested as much a possible. i mean, how 'boring' would the news be without the special effects, dramatic music, and heated arguments? -_-

I saw Fox people jerking off on Scott Brown naked pictures. He is white, he is handsome, he is naked, he is wet, he is a superstar ..... He is the Prejean of politics ..... both Christians, both anti-gay, both naked, both uneducated, both with no ideas apart for showing off.

HAHA!
is this supposed to counter the 2 hour Obama worship droolfest hosted by Olbermann, Maddow and Matthews a few nights ago?
EPIC FAIL for mediamatters!
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@frictionRx5 friction or fiction? the "droolfest" to which you refer was based on the fact that the president b*tchslapped 140 republicans on their own turf. Compared to these 100% brain-free adults playing with dolls, my highly intellectual response is DUDE, WTF?

Somebody needs to pass FAUX News a towel to wipe the extra off their faces.

Wow. That was like watching the RNC blow Ron Jeremy: horrifying to watch...but I couldn't look away. You know, similar to a whale walking down the beach in her bikini?
