  • How dangerous is it to download stuff?

  • hey frnd can u plzzz tel me in step by step..i hav windows 7 stater.with 2gb ram 250hdd(only 2 drives c & d)..so should i need to creat a partition?how?

2nd-do i need anythg more than the ubuntu os disk?i mean any extra software to install ubutu??plz reply

  • @Softheart15 For the absolute easiest install just download and run this. Just follow the steps and you should be just fine. ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/windows-installer

  • first dont download daemon tools, download either power iso or virtual clone drive, second my computer is asking me for a disk when i try to run wubi, does anyone have any ideas on how to stop this?

  • @honky12341 There's nothing wrong with daemon tools and poweriso is not a free option. Actually you don't need to download any of them, ever. Just extract all the files from the iso with winrar and then run wubi. In fact that's what I would advise doing for your problem. If that doesn't work and it still asks for a disk then just download the standalone wubi program and let it download the OS for you. If you ask me though a true dual boot is a way better solution and it's not that hard to do.

  • @dantpatenaude sorry clicked reply at the wrong spot see reply to honky12341, i forgot to add that i even inserted a blank disc into the drive to burn wubi onto, but its not giviing me the option of burning wubi onto a disc, i cant even burn the program onto the disc, but i havnt tried downloading any software to do this, should i i have windows 7

  • @honky12341 well ive already tried downloading wubi as a standalone, but it still asks for disc when i try to open it, and about daemon tools, its spyware, not the bad kind mind you, but spyware non-the-less

  • thanks,

My internet explorer is not working when i downlaoded it. what can I do?

  • Mac's too! Mac is based on GNOME Desktop Enviromment!

  • @tweetyaja I don't think so....

  • @tweetyaja No its not...... They are just similar.

  • Comment removed

  • @tweetyaja No man, not even close.

  • man, there are thousands of viruses for linux too (including ubuntu). Viruses for linux are from the oldest days. We even study linux viruses at computer science university.

  • @TeamGozarStar There are viruses for everything. However, since the majority of people use Windows that means the majority of the viruses will be targeting Windows machines. It's a lot easier to infect people that way. This is the reason why we say there aren't any viruses for Linux. It's not in a literal sense, it's because your chances of being targeted are slim.

  • So if have Vista Ultimate on one Harddrive and Basic on the other, do I really have to delete one of them?

  • No. Just follow the tutorial.

  • Hi dantpatenaude

good work men ! can i ask you something i have got windows 7 in my laptop can i istan and ubuntu i have already partition

  • If you have an extra partition you can install ubuntu to it. If you have windows 7 and no extra partition then you can make one with partitioning software.

  • so if i want to dual boot, i should create a partition right?

cause last time i tried installing inside windows, a few days later my Windows crashed and i lost all my data, but ubuntu was still working O_O

  • Yep, just create a new partition then install ubuntu to that partition. It doesn't need to be all that big either. Maybe around 5-10 gigs. What I do is keep all of my videos and music in my windows install, then just mount that partition in Ubuntu so I can access my files without having them saved twice.

  • Isn't a Wubi install slightly slower than a regular install, and lacks hibernation?

Theres a way to do a Side By Side install from the live CD, right?

  • Yes wubi is slightly slower and does lack hibernation. You can do a real dual boot install but it takes a bit more effort. If you don't already have a second partition you need to set one up. You can do this by using partitioning tools. I used to use g-parted.

  • this is my problem as a vista x64 user. My partition in computer says i can only parittion 1GB (when i have over 75gb). I saw guides online that said to defragment and use disk clean up etc. Ok i did that, deleted a bunch of programs and uninstalled alot of crap etc etc and guess what... now it says i have 0mb to parition. WTF!!!! Vista is the king of WTF moments.

Don't get me started on HP support, Windows DVD Maker not working, and so much other stuff. This looks like a fix for me.

  • my HP disk recovery maker thing wont even burn past the second DVD it just auto quits. i've tried countless times it wasted a perfectly good DVD. I'm not even guna bother calling HP for recov disks they've always had the crappiest and rudest cust suport(wich have never helped me at all). HP shud just tell u to use GOOGLE for help cuz thats all that ever helped me google(dot)com and utube :/

I'm guna try this as im 2 scared to use the Linux Mint partitioning software for obvious reasons!

  • For partitioning I use G-parted. As for buning disks you may want to use a different program. You can also insall using Wubi, that way you won't need to partition or burn a disk. wubi-installer(dot)org

  • To install Ubuntu it is required to download when we install it?

I have insert the cd,it doing well but it so slow to install it in my computer.

  • I downloaded ubuntu and it wants me to install usuing the cd so i put it on the cd with roxio do i just leave the cd in and restart and go from their or do i have to partition or something. I dont want to damge windows id like to use it once in a while.

  • Just insert the cd when your in Windows and install that way. If you want to do a true dual boot you would need to partition if you don't already have an extra partition.

  • don't write ''damage'', ubuntu (or linux, generally - iuse archlinux with xp in dual boot-) don't damage anything during partitioning! Bye!

  • Thanks your vids helped me so much ubuntu is so simple and easy 5 stars subbed thanks

  • Glad I could help. And if anyone has any requests for my future vids I'd like to hear them.

  • i bought a computor that has no operating system is it still possible to install unbutu?

  • Yep, just put in the disk and install. It's actually easier.

  • No you're not an idiot, that's just bad luck. lol

  • That's what I show how to do.

  • when I installed it using wubi , it installed just fine but when I restart and choose ubuntu my laptop went blank for long time...then I tried to installed it again with vmware 6.5 it work and even updated but when I restart the vmware the screen went blank again

  • Why do people still dual boot ubuntu and windows if you can install it inside of windows??

Sorry im new to linux. Is there any difference between in installing ubuntu inside of windows and dual booting the two ??

  • With a full install your disk speeds are slightly faster. Plus some people like having dedicated partitions (sections of the hard drive) dedicated to each OS.

  • Oh right.. ok (:

    Thanks for the reply,

I installed it last night, partitioned my harddrive and installed It as a second OS, with Windows 7 RC.

  • Nice choice for windows. I have RC right now and I like it way better then vista.

  • I already said no it won't hurt windows. I was just explaining that you can completely remove it so there is no possible way it could hurt your install. And I have no idea what you mean by memory. If you're talking about ram then no, no extra ram is used because only on OS runs at a time. If you're talking about hard drive space, of course it will take up space. Around 10Gb. But it will definately not damage your computer or Windows in any way.

  • i heard if i install ubuntu it will "destroy" windows and memorey is this true?

  • No, that is not true. All you have to do to completely remove Ubuntu is go to add and remove programs and uninstall it. After that there will be nothing left of Ubuntu.

  • no i ment like when i insall it will it do anyting to windows? or memorey

  • Well if that's the case you already have it installed. If your install doesn't work simply go to control panel and uninstall the program, restart, then try using wubi.

  • It says installation already detected when I try to Install in Windows. What should I do?

  • installation in windows completed and waited for 15 min. nothing happen only black screen. Is right to choose first vista then restart again then choose ubuntu?

  • You could try that. If that doesn't works an uninstall and reinstall of ubuntu should fix the problem.

  • I install ubuntu using wubi when I reboot and choose ubuntu in the selection my laptop freezes into a black screen

  • Not sure what could be causing this. How long did you give your laptop before you shut it off. Sometimes it can take a while for the installation to finish.

  • Will this also works with Vista?

  • Yes it will.

  • can I ask, is this work on notebook ? my laptop is Acer Aspire 4315 .. does this can damage my notebook ?

  • Yes this will work on your notebook.

  • Dude...Thanks a LOT... We are are waiting for new vids for Ubuntu Extraz and tweaks..... Take care....

  • Anything in particular? I don't really have any more ideas for videos.

  • wait, install what from windows?

  • Install Ubuntu inside of Windows. That's what this video explains how to do.

  • im using a monitor, compaq FP 5315.

i really wanna start using ubuntu. ):

  • The only thing I could suggest is using a CRT monitor (the big kind) if you have one around. Or just install from Windows and see if that works. If it doesn't (but it should) then just uninstall Ubuntu.

  • when i pressed try ubuntu without installing it went blank and it said something about a signal output. can you help please?

  • Are you using an lcd monitor (the flat ones) because sometimes that happens to me on certain live cd's. Other than that I'm not sure what could be causing it.

  • Thank you so much dude... I did it!!!!!! and u know what... I'm in LOVE with UBUNTU!!! its so Good....

But..... Aaaah..... Can u please tel me ,Can i connect my NOKIA mobile to my laptop with Ubuntu(9.04) ??? :-) if YES, then please tel me HOW??

  • Glad to hear it worked for you. As for your phone. If you have your data cable you should be able to plug it in, if you have bluetooth you can use that. I'm not really sure. I don't have a Nokia.

  • Oh!! Thanks a lot... That was very informative... Ans I Installed Ubuntu in Windows.. :-)

if u dont mind, i have one more doubt!!!

this is bit complicated.. I think u can understand this..

The RESOLUTION in Vista is 1280*800 and it looks fine..But in Ubuntu, its only 1024*768. I have installed NVIDIA drivers in Ubuntu(9.04) also but still its saying that is not compatible and so on..

Is there anyway to adjust Resolution using Command or somethin? it wil be of great help if u reply.. :-) Thanx..

  • If you already installed your graphics card drivers then you should be able to go to System>Preferences>Screen Resolution and change it from there. Not sure if you have tried this though. If you do have problems installing the graphics drivers I have another video that explains the poper way to install them. It's called How to enable Ubuntu's Special Effects. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. I try to reply to all the questions I get. And thanks for subscribing. =3

  • Hey dude... i'm new to Ubuntu..But i wanna use it. Right now, i have Vista in my laptop..

My doubt is, Will the ubuntu allow me to install the softwares of windows like Games and ohter apps??? If not, how do i make them work??

    Please Answer.. Thanks..

  • The only thing Ubuntu is not good at is gaming. This is because all the games made are for either PC or Mac. Trying to play these games on Ubuntu would be like trying to play PS3 games on a 360. But with the method I describe above you will still have your Vista install on your computer. So when you feel like playing games just boot into Vista instead. As for other programs, there are many free programs for Ubuntu. So whatever program you have on Windows there will be something similar on Ubuntu

  • thanks for helping me

  • You're welcome.

  • Why? It works perfectly the way I described it. I have done this over 10 times on around 4 different operating systems and it has worked every time.

  • It installs fine but when I select Ubuntu(after restarting my computer) it takes me to a page called "command-lines" and it says "Grub". How do i get past this? please HELP

  • I am not sure. I never had this problem before. Try going to the Ubuntu forums. Just search ubuntu forums on google to get there. They can give you more help than I.

  • when i install with wubi, i try to boot into ubuntu and get the error message:

Erroe:Cannot find grldr on all devices...press CTR+ALT+DEL to restart .... how can i fix this?

  • I am not sure as I have never had this error before. Do you have the latest version of Ubuntu? I think it is 9.04. If so try reinstalling again.

  • yes! :P

  • If you install using wubi you won't need a second partition. If you do a regular install yes you will need a second partition.

  • worked perfect for me, but after a while I decided to do a proper install.

  • mine never works whenever i do this, it downloads, lets me chose the OS at startup, but it never completely finishes the installation on Ubuntu, even today, i left it to load all day while i was at schoo, it just froze at copying files 31%

only thing was to unplug my computer and then i went 2 xp, which crashed and gave me the BSOD

I then have to boot into safemode and remove the ubuntu before xp can work properly. This has happened more than 3 times.

    What am i doing wrong?

  • Weird. Have you tried reinstalling XP and then installing Ubuntu inside windows? If you are unable to install using Wubi you could always make a seperate partition and install Ubuntu on that if you wanted.

  • I don't exactly want to reinstall XP because i have lots of pics and documents i don't wanna get deleted in the process.

It may also be that i have the bare minimum RAM, a mere 523MB, it even warns me i'm 3mb under the minimum, so i think i'll run Xubuntu, just for the fact that it's not working on iether Kubuntu OR Ubuntu.

Wierd though, when i run Wubi it just goes automaticaly to the screen where you choose the disk usage, name, password, etc, without allowing me to choose to run both windows

  • But i already know it's not going to kill XP, it just gives me the option to run either OS.

This is odd, i finally think i'll be able to slowly give up windows, and all this stress is making me want to reconsider...

  • Not sure what the problem could be then. I don't think your ram is the problem. My dad's computer runs Ubuntu and it has 224Mb of ram.

  • pfft windows is already damaged

  • I can't totally disagree with that statement. lol

  • w00t i have ubuntu 8.04 as my propritary os, i even play fallout on it :D

  • lol. I would get rid of Windows but I need it for Crysis and GTA IV.

  • -SMACK- WINE

  • Crysis doesn't work in WINE that great. lol

  • use wubi no need to install Ubuntu and you can remove it if you dont like it

  • Thats what I did.

  • Try Wubi guys :)

  • ok i just downloaded this ubuntu shit 8.10 and i cant find any damn ISO.img

  • Right click on the file you downloaded and click properties. Select the general tab and look to see what the file type is. It should say .iso. Mount the file and install.

  • Nice work..

Ive been wanting yo do that.

    ty

  • what program are you using to record the screen?

  • CamStudio

  • it stoped at crating image an say culd not accesse the cd, please make sure other applications are not using it and try again

wat shuld i doo plz help mee

  • First off are you using an actual CD or are you using just the iso file? Make sure you selected install inside windows. What OS are you using? Did you restart and try the setup again. Sometimes that works.

  • damn you ask alot

  • hey nice video!

so are all of your files on your original operating system go to ubuntu as well?

  • Yep. Ubuntu is even registered in add and remove programs for easy removal. So if you don't like it you can remove it with no damage done to your computer. And if you were talking about pictures and music i can access them from Ubuntu as well. All I would need to do is go to the host folder in Ubuntu and I can get any file I want from Windows.

  • nice that's awesome.

    i am soo getting this.

    thanks a lot.

  • No problem. If you have any more questions you are free to ask.

  • yay go dan!
