At least you got to send him a letter...what I wouldn't give to thank him for my Little Phatty, even if I never heard back from him. Anyway, I'd be willing to bet that your letters were archived along with everything else Bob collected over the years.
Though I sent more than three letters to Mr.Moog to let him know how proud I was of my (still) beloved Minimoog #12955, I NEVER EVER received not even a tiny note saying he had read at least one of them. It would've been a dream come true if Bob would've known there was a kid in URUGUAY -South America- really enjoying music with his synth. Now it's too late, but as I'm not Wakeman or Emerson, I suppose you won't care. After all, I was born in a Third World country.
Way to feel sorry for yourself kid! Dr. Bob was one of the nicest people I've ever met, though he did complain about annoying letters from kids in Uruguay who weren't big stars. But hey, Dave Smith is still alive; try your luck with him.
Yes, it is idiotic to take it personally that a busy man didn't respond to a fan letter. The man's joy was in providing great tools for musicians; the only thanks he expected was that they be used creatively. I'm sure that even if he remembered MiniMoog #12955 he'd tell you to get a Voyager because it's better.
I don't think he'd tell me to buy a Voyager, because I already own TWO...and I can let you know the Voyager ISN'T better, just different. I own the Mini since 1981 (I'm the original owner) and I know it from head to toes. What you said is the kind of self excuse that people who DOESN'T own one of the coveted 13000 original Ds say. Just consolation, poor you. And last but not least, I have tons of Gb full of creative work because I AM A MUSICIAN. Have you ever looked at the audience from stage?
