I think the shorts Lyrics are the one but when I hearing the song and follow the lyrics, it`s goes almost the same. But I think this verson is longe then the other one av Heiemo og Nykkjen. Beautyful song
I heard this back in 2000 and fell in love with it. Ms. Berg is an impressive singer. Any of kind Nordic folks care translate the lyrics? Fascinating melody.
@mhearstify The Water spirit danced and Heiemo sang her poem It pleased all the folks in the houses Now it is time for everyone to go home, I will take Heiemo with me on the ship. Heiemo, Heiemo, quiet your sorrow, you shall sleep in the arms of the water spirit. She stabbed the water spirit in his chest, The knife ran into the root of his heart. "Here you lay, naked to raven and dog" "Still I have my need to sing."
@Vikingskog It's one from my favorites.I was searching the original lyrics, cause the version I have from Helene it's different.Any ideas where I can find them?
I really find this song hauntingly beautiful. I find myself falling in love with many folk songs of Norway and Sweden. Could you translate it into English for me?
@cyanastropyre Heiemo sang her poem, the hillsides sang back "Wake up you noble youngsters" The Water spirit heard it, striding on the sea, "Because you now have overslept." Heiemo sang her poem, the woods sang back The Water spirit heard it, that hound of hell. The Water spirit spoke to his helmsman: Steer my ship to the Cimmerian land! I will go upon Cimmerian land, This beautiful maid I shall have... He then entered into the house with high hat and rosy cheeks
I wanted to ask if this is the way it is really sang,in the country for example,or is it a remastered modern version of it?because i'm trying to research the differences in the folk music of Europe but if found to many remastered versions of folk music and i'm not sure that i can tell the difference in music that's not my nations own.could you help me?
It is the correct way to sing it, Norwegian folksongs are usually song correct (if not then its not considered folkmusic).
But there are diffrent types of songs though, and diffrent techniques for them. This is a Norwegian middle-age ballade.
Some other types we have are stev,Nystev, gammelstev,slåttestev, etterstev, bånsuller, lokk ++.. A person that sings stev's are called a kvedar(almost like a bard).
I first learned this song from a great Bay area singer, Lily Storm - for the Helene and Kristen version's, I much prefer Kristen's - for pronunciation, emotional depth and general attack - I see and feel good Heiemo there ! Go Heiemo !
Høyr versjonen av Helene Bøksle, DEN er nydeleg!

search on nøkken on google pic, there is the white horse atleast

nøkkjen is a water creature, unlike the draug that lives in the sea.
it lures people into the water, it is some folk pictures and stories, i heard one as a child but i think there are more about this creature.
one is about it turning into a white horse and rides into the water with a man on his back.
