Well the 3870 was significantly cheaper than the 8800GTX. It was more aimed at the 8800 GT-S.

Yes the 8800GTX is a decent card even by today standards. My old 3870 handle Crysis full out settings with 2X Anti-aliasing fine. I now currently own an Asus 5850.

The 1GB would have a small advantage at high resolutions but the 512MB GDDR3 is better overall.

I believe the 3870 has more stream processors. If not, its from personal experience. I owned the 4650, but then I got the 3870 and saw a big improvement.

Yeah, that price's been dropping like crazy on the 3870. I recommend the 4850 or 4870 but this is still a great card.

You can try. I recommend using 750 watts or more when using SLI or Crossfire.

I just got one of these for my new Budget gaming rig I build last November-December. I payed just slightly more than you did for the same card. This Card is very Kick ass for the Price. Only game this card has really choked on when on max settings is Crysis.

Whole gaming rig, cost probably $580, this includes Keyboard, Mouse, and Monitor.

$20 OCZ mouse, Nice $5 Keyboard (From thrift store, and 19" 1600x1200 CRT Monitor $10.

Yeah, if you paid a little more, you could've gotten the 4850, which everyone considers the best bang for you buck. That higher resolution of yours is what's making the 3870 struggling a little bit. At 1440 x 900, I play Crysis all the time on high settings and it runs at reasonable frame rates.

GDDR4 should be faster than the GDDR3 version. The 3870 is faster than the 3850 or you could spend a little more and buy the 4850.
