It's like a theologian, just because you can quote the bible backwards doesn't make you more of a savior.
We must remember that Ron Paul is the Christ of the liberty movement. He doesn't have to have thick hair and a monumental speaking voice He has kept the KISS message and his true followers know his voice.
Ron Paul's followers will carry his message after he is long gone. There is a being born again in congress and in the peoples hearts In time it will happen
The pursuit of excellence is not a group activity. Liberty, individual liberty, is the sole venue in which excellence can be obtained. The notion that excellence is a societal achievement is just the kind of view people like Hitler and Stalin espoused. I suggest you let people set their own goals, and society will be the better off for it.
@bbburton - Appreciate that very thoughtful and insightful comment. The lines you draw up are just the ones that need more investigation. I believe you were more right about this in 1776, 1880, 1945 than you are today. Not because the principle has changed, but because the premises has changes so dramatically. Your point is still true, but it needs to be qualified.
It is always SUCH a pleasure to hear what you have to say. I agree that we must be realistic. True, Ron Paul's candidacy in 2012 is a long shot proposition just as it was in '08. This is NOT to say he "can't" win - we must do all we can to help him - but the honest truth is that, perhaps, the masses may not yet be ready to hear what he's saying. Yet... In time they will realize there is no other way. By then he may be gone, but the ideas; the dream will still remain...
And of course, "excellence" is a subjective term. Each of us has a different conception as to what "excellence" truly "is"; therefore, ONLY in *individual liberty can one actually achieve a personal goal relative to what his/her conception of what "excellence" actually is. In any other paradigm, the standard of "excellence" is determined by the group, the state, or by totalitarian types, etc. Historically, most great thinkers, artists, etc. achieved "excellence" by their own terms.
@RonPaulRevolution4u How true. The excellence of the individual may not always be the same as the excellence society may ascribe to. Yet by and large, society not only applauds individual success, society rewards it. The balance, excellence versus meritocracy, is the difference between success and failure. When society sets the standard for excellence, everyone suffers. But when the individual sets the bar, society almost always benefits.
Gold standard values. . . rock hard principles: the truth about these things has to come from people thoroughly convinced. It is just like you said though, so many people are invested into the false wealth, paper wealth, they will never come to gold standard.
Values are just the same, people have sunk their lives into terrible values. They are consumers. They will not change unless forced. I believe the ultimate primal ethic is God, Jesus Christ. People never want discipline or standards.
@Somerled1 - Yes, I was lucky to leave for my holiday on the morning after it happened. I was actually less than 300 meters away just one hour before the blast, spooky. So I got some distance to it all, being at the coast. I have still not fully internalized what it means. Will comment on it eventually.
I agree, this is an ongoing long term fight, for which we need to have the right strategy and long term commitment.
Democracy is mob rule, you can't vote individual's life, liberties, and property away from him. People must be taught this simple truth, and individual freedom must become a political value.
@yadranko - The internet has been with us for 20 years. There will be an internet revolution eventually, just as print, radio, tv all changed society. We must own that change.
The attitude that he can't win is also what is wrong with this movement. That is what destroys a campaign. No one thought Martin Luther King could get a million people to march on Washington...and he did it...because they were determined. Nothing happens overnight. Also, if you study history, NO revolution that caused anything to change was peaceful. It's unfortunate, but it's a fact. The elitists want the guns for a reason. They have studied history.
The campaign is about much more than getting Ron Paul elected. The campaign is a vehicle for spreading the message and advancing the cause. Give it your all. It will take nothing less.
the world is hoping for paul in 2012. we need it.

That is how the elites destroy a movement; they subversively infiltrate it. It's an age-old tactic.
