I really like all of Rush's music, but I LOVE their early stuff like this. I understand they wanted to break away from the sort of Led Zeppelin sound and go into the more cerebral and mystic which was fine for me, but the early Rush is just kick ass!

Rush fan here. The best moment of my life is when I met Alex at the Orbit Room in downtown Toronto on September 17, 1999. He was introduced as "Big Al Dexter", of the Dexters.

i saw these guys 5 times in the late 70's...once, front and center. i mean 2 feet from alex! NOBODY could do what these 3 guys could do... i don't think any 100 musicians together could out- do them. My tastes changed or 'expanded" over the years. I haven't BOUGHT a rush album since moving pictures... but they are the FIRST band i listen to when i turn on my mp3 player. SOOOOO much TALENT!!!!! alex made me pick up the guitar! before that, i was just an "air" guitarist!

fender precision bass, not a vox, he customized it himself, he cut it and painted it on HIS OWN NOT HIS SIGNATURE MODEL

its rickenBACKER and no its not a rickenbacker or a vox, its a fender precision bass that he cut into the shape, added and extra pick up, and painted it baby blue

as an aside, I live in newburgh ny. rickenbaker built guitars here for a number of years back in the 80's. when their favorable tax breaks expired, they moved out. i knew one of their employees and he showed me how to build guitars, and I've built 6 for myself.

TOO BAD I SUCK AS A GUITAR PLAYER! ... but i have built some real fine guitars under his guidance.

the bass that geddy is using is a modified fender precuision bass, nicknamed the "teardrop bass" geddy liked the bass but being that it was chopped up so much it had problems with headstock dive and tone, so he quit using it, though to this day he still has it. all of his basses he kept, except for the white 4001 which he gave to alex, and alex gave it to les claypool

Yep, it was pretty awe-inspiring. And Les was in fine form. Primus weren't being received well by some of the older audience members, so they started playing "Kasmhir", which the audience responded to enthusiastically, then they stopped and Les said "yup, when in doubt - play Led Zep".

And during one number, Les said to the audience "now would be a good time to go get a Rush t-shirt". Classic.

thats what i was thinking but there are rumors that its a p bass but its got a p bass and a j bass style pick up (i got the latest guitar legend magizine and it shows a picture of it) and on this record he used a p bass but i think its the canora
