They should have kept it. Its probably gonna be the most remembered baseball stadium of all time. I have to say though that both Yankee Stadiums are overrated. When it comes to ballparks Boston vs New York. Boston kills NY city
Greed tore down the most historic stadium that ever was or ever will be. Also total ignorance of the Steinbrenners to pour salt in the wound by leaving NOTHING, not one square foot of Yankee Stadium for posterity or a tribute to it's history. This is just plain WRONG and an insult to so many people who consider Yankee Stadium part of their lives. Enjoy the sushi bar at the new place.
I have no respect for the Yankees and Steinbrenner FU old man R.I.P P.O.S There was no need to get rid of the House that Ruth built the place where Lou Gehrig gave his farewell. It was a sad day in baseball history, and I don't care if you are a Yankees fan That stadium was a part of the team and now they are poorer for it.
The only thing that could have made this better is if they filled it with the yankees and as many yankee fans that they could stuff into it and then tear it down.
The Fen will out live my great-great-great grandchildren. That's pride, kids.
@george8181811 Seriously? "Cubs Stadium?" It's Wrigley Field. Your comment is automatically null and void based entirely on your obvious ignorance and blatant lack of baseball knowledge.
I cannot stand the Yankees (Indians fan here), but since I'm also a baseball fan it is sad to see the house that Ruth built be torn down. I remember how I felt when they tore down Cleveland Municipal Stadium, and as much as I love Jacobs Field I still have a sentimental spot for old Muni 15 years after it's been torn down and Browns Stadium built on top of the same site.
Fuck u yankees all u do is spend money on all the best players in the league(that use steroids). The mets actually are fun to watch because their games are close and they are the underdog. The Yankees are too predictable. That's why I fuckin hate them. Go mets
To all the Yankees haters AKA the red "dirty" socks, ups sorry, red sox: Yes, tearing down the old stadium is sad because was the home of the BEST BASEBALL TEAM EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. But karma is a bitc^ cuz soon, I will be in my lazy boy watching how Fenway(the lair of a pseudo-team with only how many championships?....) comes down faster than the twin towers! This message don't apply to the descent Red Sox fans.
@Mely197878 I got new for you. Fenway Park will still be standing long after Yankee Stadium #10 has been imploded. FENWAY PARK WILL NEVER BE TAKEN DOWN!
I'm not even a true yankee fan i'm crying inside man see something that iconic go down because of a sky box and other stupid reasons. Spending money we don't have.
@flipmasta14 Says you! This next season we will celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Fenway Park. And there will be more Centennials for that Ballpark for Centuries to come!
if i were the mlb i woulda bought it from the yankees and do 1 of 2 move the hof from coopertown to it or made it a museum and open it to the public so you can let the fans sit in the dugout or stand at home plate or the pitchers mound and have memorobilia of the the great games played there but on guard of course i would not have let it be torn down if i were the mlb i just hope this never happens to fenway or wrigley just too much history
@GeorgeVreelandHill its them fucken unions we have! they wanted to make jobs for people but in the end they waste billions of our tax dollars on a new stadium! Am I right?
Fuck the Yankess and their $1,500 seats, $42 hats, and $11 Coors lights. I was a HUGE Yankee fan, and this is just obscene. I'm glad Sweinbrenner is dead!
1978....My dad brings me to Yankee Stadium for the first time. I don't remember what seat we were seated at but I remembered we were behind the left field foul pole on the lower area.
its so weird 2 years ago i sat there and saw an arod walkoff hr in july 2008. and now the whole thing is like the base of the twin towers collapse... just a flat circle of dirt
All of the new parks are bland. No character. The new Busch in St. Louis really shows how plain and bland the new cookie cutter parks have become. All these cities will wish they would have kept these parks in 10 years when the new wears off. The new Yankees, Oriole Park and The Ballpark in Arlington really did a great job, but where is the history?
i thought they said that they would preserve the section behind home plate... look how buisnessmen who don't know a damn about sports history treat success...
Even though i never seen a game in the stadium my favorit moment has 2 be when derek jeter made the catch agents the redsucks in the 12th inning running into the seats
Makes me angry.. Did they need a new stadium??? the history was so grand at this place and just the fact it belonged to the Yankees... their new ballpark isnt intimidating like the this one and the new one is like a little league field. Idk
@niceguytim ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING! IT'S THE UNIONS IN NEW YORK! THE REASON WHY THEY BUILT A NEW STADIUM WAS TO MAKE JOBS FOR PEOPLE BUT THEY SPENY OUR TAX DOLLARS ON A BRAND NEW STADIUM!
I'm born and raised in the Bronx. Live here all of my life. I'm a grown man of 37 years and when i walked by the stadium a couple of weeks ago and saw the condition of the old stadium i actually started crying uncontrollably. i grew up in Yankee Stadium. Some of my greatest memories happened in that building. i went to opening day last season and took a piss in the legends bathroom next to Rudolph Giuliani and Joel Klein and as beautiful as the new park is, it can't compare to the old Stadium.
I have so many memories of Yankee Stadium. I've been to the 'old' park and then after it was renovated in 1974 and 1975. I've seen ( I'm 53 years old ) The Mick, Roger & Yogi to the New Millenium Yanks of Andy, Derek, Jorge & Mariano My wife and I took one of the last tours of the Stadium in 2008...I will NEVER set foot in the new park. I will be happy to watch the games on YES and sit in my old Yankee Stadium seat ( I also have two press box seats as well ) and relive my memories.
At least kids will be able to play baseball on the same spot where the Babe, Mantle and Maris played. It will turn into a baseball diamond with a few bleacher seats to make up for putting the New Stadium on the site where MCcombs Dam Park once was.
my heart is being torn out and stepped on my favorite memorie was gary ward first game as a yankee he drilled a ninth inning walk off home run also my first yankee game i was first baseline upper deck great game great win YANKEES WIN THE YANKEES WIN
@special420player my special moment of yankee stadium was scott broscious triple home run in the 1998 world series against the padres then it was tino martinez moon shot right into the bleachers i sure will miss yankee stadium no doubt about that but the yankee ghosts will live through the memories for the new one
As of this afternoon, it's still standing and there is no damage to the outside of it. They're cutting sections in the upper deck behind home plate now - like they did for the left field grand stands in the video. They'll probably be taking those sections down this week.
Nice footage Brian. I have never been there. So. . . no memories of the place. No need to worry beef curry, for your heart for this lustrous building will mend.

So many ghosts wafting away. I find it a little disappointing that the Yankees website doesn't have any links to photos or video of the demolition. I hope there is some official documenation being made.
i live by it!!! it's sad...so sad it's like a family member leaving for good!!!i remember one time when i sneak in the yankee stadium back then where they weren't good, free tickets in the bleechers side!!! and what else, yes when aaron made that homerun!!! came home about 5.00 in the morning!!!

Biggest mistake Yankees ever made was tearing this perfect stadium down...Ive been to the new stadium...you can keep it!
henhao1972 2 months ago
I seriously cannot believe that tore that American ICON down. I am not a Yankee fan. But it is/was a SYMBOL of American might.
Just the energy left there from its inception is enough reason to keep it. Renovate it.
Boston wont tear down Fenway.
Penn wont tear down Palestra.
Kansas wont tear down Allen.
You would think...but as Dallas and the Cowboys and soon to be 49ers are showing...newer is what they want...
Ungodly.
