  • @DigitalRevCom Is it possible to use Nikon D60 with SB-600 the same "remote" way?

  • pause at 0:00

  • Best episode of Digital Rev :-)

  • "and if you're an athiest, then they're just great diffusers..."

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

    Psalms 19:1

    word.

  • Kai, great street tips video ! Got more out of it than I did from Zach Arias pedantic dissertations. Low tech,no budget shoots are what most of us now accept as reality.. Thanks for being real Dude!

    from distant shores,

    fox5411

  • Finally, use a neck strap!!! Jesus christ. You are teaching bad practices.

  • Also you don't really need that cup modifier, there is a built in zoom feature on the speedlight that gives you control over the light directions.

  • Just use a wireless trigger.

  • hopeless video and a pathetic photographer. dude u need to be more organised in order to host a channel on youtube. go learn, here is something for you inspiration

    watch?v=TM7EJZ-8HWw

This guy here is more focused and knows what he is doing and he is talking to the point. Now thats called a great video. Oh and go improve ur English.

  • @Ravy054 your a fucking dick.

  • @jfmansell yes, yes he is.. another dick head on youtube that thinks he knows everything about everything. a youtube PhD as I call them

  • @Ravy054 You're a moron.

  • @Ravy054

Are you mentally ill? Kai is incredibly talented and entertaining... also he has perfect English speaking skills.

  • @BeaTehz i didnt mean to hurt u. he maybe talented to you but if he is more focused on his point. it wud be a great video on photography.

  • @Ravy054

You sound extremely uneducated ! Maybe stick to nickelodeon ....

  • Use a kit lens like the 18-55 then that is a challenge, the 50mm is one of the best, both the 1.8 and the 1.4

  • how'd he get the d3100 to trigger the 580ex II with the popup flash? can someone tell me the settings please?

  • @reiyu013 he said an SB-900... they're both Nikon...

  • @uzipanti oh my bad, didn't watch the video fully. looked like a 580ex II. thanks for the clearup.

  • mmmm chinese pussy

  • he is actually such! a bad photographer!

  • noodle cup??? snoot??? clever... lol

  • Y dun you just take Alamby as your model?

  • Hey Kai, Does the Canon 580EX II have that fire flash feature like the nikon speedlight? I couldn't do that on my 580EX?

  • Damn she is pretty! I would love to take some shots of her.

  • Wow. Kai made a really informative video!

  • Can I use any kind of external flash? I have a old flash, which was bought like 15 or so years ago for a old film SLR. Question is, does it work with new DSLRs? Will it break my 600D?

  • 00:03 What a slob!

  • and BANG in your face

  • oh god, these shots are shitty

  • I thought that the D60 was an entry-level camera. I seriously did. I have a D60. I lost the charger. :(

  • Kai what do u think what is better flash the new sb-910 or the sb-900 ?

  • Yes more Kinky!

  • i wish they shot it in a nicer street!

  • Need more info of that hawt babe

  • I want to see more of the model instead.

  • Kinky must be the sexiest woman on earth right now!..i usualy dont like asian girls but this girl has something mystery about her..difficult to explain.

  • "but the fing is" instead of but the thing is lol

  • that girl got some curves ! love it

  • w don't u try using a 18-55mm kitlens & sb600. now that's a truly cheepo setup. 50mm f/1.4 & sb900? i loled at ur "cheeponess"... :p

ps: dear grammar nazis, please pardon my use of words that don't actually exsist...

  • a este tío le falta medio verano ...

  • KAI! what is the settings on this SB900? so that I can trigger it with my 60D

  • challenge: use a canon 60d to an sb900 :D

  • @rodbcris Just check out their later video. "How to Take Photos of Water" They use a Canon 550D together with SB900 there. It's do-able, but you have to use the flash as a slave.

  • cubanoodle

  • Kai, may i know what do you call that thing you connected on the SB900? that softbox like thing. what do you call that, where to get and how much? thanks...

  • bloody hell, Kai! what happened to your hair?lol fits with the low budget topic though.

  • "her nose like sundial " what a phrase

  • @SuperAsait I found it intelligently funny. I used couple of sun clocks in my life, and the phrase "her nose like sundial" makes perfect sense to me :-)

  • Yongnuo makes $100 flashes that are basically identical to canons. Cowboy studio has a trigger set for $20.

  • Kinky<3

  • Does anybody have some recommendations for a good, less than $60, flash for a canon t2i? Im not having any real luck finding it myself. :P

  • @turek9393 Sub 100 flashes usually lacks key functions like TTL, but Nissin produces cheap flashes that offers a good alternative to Canon's own

  • ALAMBY!!!

  • you can set the in camera flash so that it only sets off the off camera flash and does not effect the photo.

  • 5:13....dat ass :3

  • Does anyone know if the Canon EX580 II can be set off by a flash like the SB900?

  • Is that awful music really necessary?? I love DRTV, but that just makes me angry...

  • Is it just me, or this is getting worse and worse with every video?

  • awful pictures as always...

  • That model probably looks pissed off cause it's freezing, theyre all wearing jackets except her

  • excuse me..5d wont. i use it with a 7d and works fine when not shooting to quickly.

  • with a 7d 600d and i think 5dii

  • sorry for the newb question.

but is there anyway to make a canon 430ex go off the same way kai does it in this video?

  • The music is so loud you can't hear what he is saying.

  • 2188 peple who liked this video are planing to buy some entry level DSLR

  • Kai, can you send me one of those Hong Kong pot noodles?

  • Kinki is so seriously desirable, I'd go out with her anytime. But seriously Kai, don't knock the D3100, I think any camera would do in the right hands, the camera is just the instrument to do your work but it is the photographer's eye, imagination that ultimately will produce the final result.

  • I have to watch and listen to ur stupid childish jokes 60% of the video, until u get to the main subject -.- Btw, i dont know why u underestimate Nikon D3100 that much! U can shoot a whole photoshoot with that camera, and nobody would notice it that the photos arent taken with nikon d3 or canon 5d mark ll.. So i think u have to be more serious in ur videos..

  • @pujovski So... you think Kai should get more serious and paint a Leica M9 pink?

This video is a good reference to those of us that just have 1 flash and want to use it off-camera.

  • @pujovski no1 asked u to watch this, and why be negative about them wanting to make things a lil fun?

  • @Yogurtsling To see if its bad, i have to watch it, right? First of all its not fun at all, but the jokes are so childish, and second 65% of the video is joking and joking..

  • SNOOOOOOT

  • Kai i bet you did Kinki !

  • Iečeko šo video @DavisPazars par vienu zipeni un stuff.

  • DAT ASS !!

  • Put the flash on a tripod ...

  • Can you please do a video teaching us how to use a Manuel flash?

  • Thumbs up if you want to see more Alamby.

  • @shikengriuber naa im good..

  • @PtOs Happy for you.

  • @shikengriuber In so many ways.. ;D

  • i thought 1flash?

  • can't you turn off the master on that nikon? on d90 and d700's you can set it in commander mode to trigger your slave before the exposure. Assume that's a limitation of an entry level camera.

  • @paulust2002 Exactly, i got the D90 and you can use the inbuiltflash as master and set it to "--", which means, there should acutally not be any kind of effect on the lightsetting.Dont know if it is possible with the 3100

  • @paulust2002 you can buy a "cheap" filter from nikon that block light (Exept IR) und still triggers a flash.

  • @paulust2002 Does any of that matter if you use wireless triggers? You can get those pretty cheap and reliable.

  • Big voice, little man :)

  • Kinki, the "model" did not look impressed...

  • Kinki is NOT amused...

  • Kinki!!! and alamby!

2 lovely ladies in the video!

  • YEAYY KINKI IS HERE!

  • nice

  • YAY ALAMBY!!!

  • Where do they sell these Alamby flash holders? I want 3 for myself :D

  • nice stuff. and the model is nice to take pro pics.

  • Can't you set the D3100 internal flash to M --? On the D700, it keeps the internal flash from firing during exposure. Is it different on the D3100?

  • some of the best shots i have seen from kai >.< nice video

  • Poortraits. *ba-dum-tsss*

  • I think Alamby is kind of mad at Kai coz he's taking photos of the model instead of her, lol. By the way is Alamby Kai's gf?

  • are you using TTL mode?

  • I prefer Alamby over the model

  • i feel like those 2 women are joulous of something man !

  • The sb900 costs about as much as the 3100 body I think. Not really low-budget... Good video though :)

  • kinky is hot n i hope she's kinky :D

  • @nightdrifterable

I wonder of Kinki is aware of what her name means in America.

  • Poor noodle cup, imean, sb900

  • can i do the same with nissin Di622 Mark II (flash trigger)?

  • She is so hoooooooot!

  • Hey, you can use the incamera flash to command without it firing in the photo, read the camera manual

  • @NLS87 I think you are referring to the 'in camera commander'. D3100 don't have in camera commander.

  • @NLS87 Only higher end Nikon models have commander built in flash.

  • kai seriously need a haircut

  • This is a really great informative tutorial! Thanks Kai and the DRTV team, it's the sort of stuff I don't know yet, but want to learn. : )

  • Great video..really good intro to speedlite flash technique!

  • Alamby looks a bit sad in this video. Why?

  • i thought you had to use something like a pocket wizard to trigger flashes off camera, can one trigger a sb-600 with a d3100 the same way? with no other equipment?

  • @gtochad you can't. only sb 700 and 900. i'm using cowboystudio trigger/receiver. it's pretty cheap and works well.

  • @mav2010x thanks for the reply, its greatly appreciated

  • MOREE ALAMBY

  • i just love to press play and leave it as a background sound..

  • models name???

  • I like the pic at 7:59 the best, though the skin tones look a little harsh to me.

  • Models underwear please

  • Alamby gets 900 cute points for fumbling with the cup noodels!

  • Models facebook please

  • nice model i mean camera :)

  • You can set the master flash to zero

  • When using a 7D as the master (on-board flash) to control a speed light... the flash actually fires before the shutter opens so it doesn't affect the image... is the Nikon system not like that as well? If it is then there is no need for the credit card blocking the flash.

  • @iamravenous Nikon cameras can have the commander flash set to fire before the shutter opens, just like Canon. The business card will help outdoors in bright conditions though, because it will direct more light toward the speedlight, helping it to "see" the commanding flash.

  • @BradleyPhillipsX100 I thought they did :D I was bringing it up because Kai said he was using it to block the on board flash so it wouldn't affect the portrait... which isn't needed.

  • Thanks a lot Kai! This really help me figure that this remote flash triggering actually works (surprisingly good). Now my 40$ flash feels even better than ever before.

  • awesome!!! I had no idea I could use an optical trigger! It really works!

  • I want a human flash holder :(

  • Lok/Kai, what's the counterpart of SB-900 to canon? Or a canon that has similar features like sb-900...

  • @smcs The 580 EX II :)

  • @takinphoto How do you turn on the optical trigger for that one ???

  • @takinphoto thank you.. so 580 EX II is going on my wishlist..

  • kai look skinny

  • yea 2 girls 1 cup

  • Kai, if you dont mind.. are you a Nikon user?

  • @kaiZEr2618 Yes, he's a Nikon fanboy.

  • Can the 580EXII be triggered optically?

  • @HanazonoFiama Yes, the 430EX also.

  • @HanazonoFiama No, you'll need a pocketwizard (remote trigger) to do the job. Although, I picked up mine very cheaply at ebay (Called yongnuo) - and they fire every time!

  • the intro was the best part

  • you've gotten lazy with the videos motherfuckers

  • 5:20 = Aly, don't try to get our attention off you by dressing goofy, you still win.

  • I've been a subscriber for just over a year. Really enjoy your reviews and humor. Plus, I've learned so much. And wishing I had the money to purchase my own DSLR. Well, now I'm getting one next month. So excited to start learning to take great shots. Thanks for schooling me. And I'll continue to watch.

  • Curry flavoured cup noodles.. that's my favourite!

  • funny video, keep going!! .. how about fireworks photography?.. I think chinese new year is near.. could be a good opportunity..

  • I think some people are missing the point of this video. Sure he's not using the cheapest of equipment, but the whole point of the video was to do portraits with one flash. It's not like he came on saying this was the cheapest you can go but come on. If you can get a cheap 50mm and a mid level flash you're good to go. Also I think some fail to remember DR is also about selling products. Can't really expect them to go "that" cheap in the videos.

  • Dear DigitalRevTV please review the Canon EOS C300. Thank you.

  • You don't look like a tramp, you look good!
