  • 2:31 sound so sad and sorrowful, yet so indescribably beautiful.

  • Divine.

  • i don`t know why but i just wanna cry when i hear this devine music

  • actually it's not "Ich Bin Der Welt Ahbanden Gekomon" but "Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen". I have a sad feeling, that there's not a single English speaking person on the planet, who's able to speak German at all. So why is it, that there's so many Germans speaking an almost perfect English? Isn't there any German lessons at school or at least a chance to learn it while in college? O.o although English is still considered a universal language, Chinese and Russian languages will also be...

  • @LycanRace in the netherlands they teach us English, French, German and now also Spanish.

  • @speedcoregewalt I was talking about native english speakers. not one of them to at least speak one german word correctly. altogether, the dutch are way more talented for language than americans or the english. but now, that I think of it, your people (and scandinavians of course) are the only ones able to speak a proper german.

  • @speedcoregewalt of course, as a linguist, I know the roots, but japanese tell me, my pronounciation was truly great (not outta friendliness). english say the same. so why can we learn their languages, but they have no talent whatsoever to learn ours?

  • @LycanRace It's a sad thing that some people are so focussed on perfect pronunciation (or rather the lack of such) when singers perform in other languages than their native one that this totally overshadows the experience of such a very good version of Mehler's very beautiful music as the present one. Such a purist attitudes - to the extent that it reflects a truth - would undermine much of what goes on in concerts around the world.

  • where did you find that picture at 0:34 please respond!

  • wow

  • I am lost to the world with which I used to waste so much time, It has heard nothing from me for so long that it may very well believe that I am dead! It is of no consequence to me Whether it thinks me dead; I cannot deny it, for I really am dead to the world. I am dead to the world's tumult, And I rest in a quiet realm! I live alone in my heaven, In my love and in my song! - Friedrich Rückert
  • this is heaven!

  • Excellent!

  • Simply, perfect.

  • Ich Bin Der Welt Ahbanden Gekomon xD hahahaha it is "Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen" :)

  • @jabba987654321 no no, Gekomon: it's a secret pokemon

  • Maybe it's just me, but this is Mahler's masterpiece right here. From the lyrics to the melody, everything is just right.

  • quel chant sublime sur ce poème désabusé!!!

  • LOVE IT...

  • It's Mahler baby

  • is this Kathleen Ferrier?

  • wow, this is a wonderful recording, but unfortunately, none of the performers are identified. I do believe the mezzo(?) is Janet Baker. Could someone tell who the singer, orchestra and conductor are? In any case, thanks to you, speedystriper, for sharing this with us.

  • @Rhouston2 Janet Baker is the singer, John Barbirolli the conductor and it's the New Philharmonia Orchestra playing. It was recorded in 1968.

  • @Rhouston2 The soprano is Janet Baker for sure. Her quality is great but I am afraid her German ruins the mood of the song a little. and the song is best fit for mezzo-soprano voice. I'd rather Magdalena Kozena or Katarina Karneus versions...

  • I can't find a credit for Maureen Forrester.

  • Hello - who wrote the words for the song please? Was it Mahler?

  • @flowforms German poet Friedrich Ruckert who also wrote the words Mahler set to music in his Kindertotenlieder - "Songs on the Death of Children."

  • @speedystriper thank you - kind of you to let me know

  • Very nice, but somewhere along the way this was recorded at too high of a volume and you get some distortion in the loudest parts.

  • wow!

  • wunderbar gesungen, exaktes Tempo, danke!

  • @arcanus121 The last two lines are very fitting for you, Steven. So you shall remain.

  • Fantastic! Thank you!
