  • Ha! that ident is almost identical to an NBC ident. Do a Youtube search for "NBC Mini-Series Graphic (1988)"

  • the jingle is very american, even more so by the fact the screen was taken from nbc, not that im complaining with the garbage idents we have today

  • comcast sold NBC last year when the hallmark channel changed names to universal channel

  • :-0

  • omg i remember this part also being recorded as i taped the chipmunk adventure as a kid, yes am showing my age lol

  • is there anything you CANT find on youtube?

  • I WOULD LOVE YO SEE THE OLD SKY PROMO'S COME BACK I THINK THESE NEW ONES ARE RUBBISH TAKE IT BACK BETWEEN 1990 AND 1997 THATS WHAT I THINK SHOULD HAPPEN

  • NBC will sue you for that?

  • Nice. The name is a bit lazy though xD

  • This Is The Movie Channel. A Part Of The British Sky Broadcasting Network.

  • Makes me want to ride to the top of a glass elevator that extends into the night sky!!

  • These idents were good visually if you got a sparkliefree picture on ASTRA and connected thru RGB Scart and they sounded good in PANDA1 satellite stereo, especially if you listened thru a stereo TV via SCART or thru a hifi system on phonos(this is the only way to get stereosound from Astra satellite transmissions).

  • Actually, for a while, the Power Station and the Sports Channel remained. Eventually, however, the Power Station closed, to be replaced by Sky Movies. There is a promo here on YouTube of the announcement of the closure.

The Sports Channel later rebranded to Sky Sports.

  • the movie channel, i remeber this, it was free at first right

  • @ensabrenur No it encrypted in Videocrypt 1 PAL straight from day one.

  • I'm not sure if that's copycat more like they used the same company that NBC did. I remember here in the UK a national radio station, Radio 1 had some jingles made by an American company and they were the same as those for an American station except they substituted the US station name with Radio 1.

  • 1991 not 1990

  • I saw my first midget porno on this channel, that was £2.50 well spent!

  • The Movie Channel launched on March 25,1990 and relauched in April 1991.

  • Robocop was the first encrypted film to be on Sky Movies.

  • 1990 australia times where robocop was around. teenage mutan ninjer turtles the movie. fantastic channel ten years

  • this must have taken like elevendy bajillion years to render.

and, was this recorded off of BSB?

  • that was for palmercomm's comment

  • Well Done. I have the Original BSB Movie Channel ident, it's avalable on my channel on YouTube!

  • they don't put as much effect into idents as they use to.

  • Sky idents from the early 90's (for me) were magical, they had such presence, class and style. The graphics the sound had such a wow factor to them, it was so different, and certainly nothing like the 4 main terrestrial channels at the time.

  • These were by far their best idents. Then, with every generation they are getting worse and worse.Almost amateur.

  • exept the 1993 ones

  • Partially yes. When they introduced them in 1993 I was a bit disappointed. They looked somehow childish to me.But from this distance, they seem perfect!

  • If anything, it's the US production outfits who often have to great these CGI things for whomever wants them, and probably just didn't bother creating something different when they could rely on a template and just insert the text/graphic/logo needed.

That's all I can think of (besides the Australian stations also using previous American network slogans).

  • whats going on here, this is NBC of the USA channel ident from the 1980's whith different color and music ,if you want the real thing put this in the search field NBC Promo - Monday Night at the Movies, 1987

  • i love this bring it back and the old sky movies ident of the same era!

  • Most Idents are used over and over in different countries with small alterations. Sadly Sky UK changed Idents so much over the years that its channels became almost unwatchable.

  • If u look on TV Ark on the net. it was the same company who done NBC's movie logo who did The Movie Channel. But that how things are done in the TV world look at Aussie old Channel 7 logo lots of channels around the world have the same '7' logo

  • Probably the best ident ever! what drama!

  • I think the British plagiarized NBC's 1987 Movie Night theme.

  • Could be... but as you may know Sky is owned by the same company that own Fox in the US.

  • @gaynrw73 But FOX and NBC aren't related - FOX, obviously, is News Corp, while NBC Universal is (currently, at least) owned by Comcast.

  • That is exactly what they did... This ident was indeed based on NBC's movie-themed idents.

  • Sky used the same business that done the logo for NBC so there was no copy right issue and because the USA is halfway around the world may of help a little.

  • I agree. I was going to say the same thing!

  • If you're looking for a real copycat, go to 7. They kept the theme and the graphics. Only thing they changed was the logo.

  • for this and the "NBC the place to be" logo which my local station WDIV had yet another version of.
