  • such a shame he fucked his knee up

  • The amazing thing for me about Jones was that he did it all off such a short run up (for a 90mph bowler).

  • what ever happened to this guy?

  • @MaZaKeRaL Still bowling, plays for Hampshire but has been on loan at Glamorgan recently, plays mostly T20 and some CB40 cricket and he still bowls very fast, was on Sky TV the other week and every ball he sent down was over 90mph.

  • @REVRAC74 I didnt realise that. I thought hed stopped.

  • @MaZaKeRaL Still good, but injury killed his certain legendary status... I remember how at début he was compared to Umar Gul, for their action and pace (+90mph)... but ironically both have been injured, and the latter, too, is world-class in T20s and just 'good' in ODIs. Sad.

  • Happy memories! Best bowler during that Ashes summer. Shame his knees went. But, he reached the top and left his mark. Cheers Simon.

  • sad i cant see simon jones n trescothik no more...great attackers....cheers to all time greats

  • It was such a shame that the team fell apart so quickly afterwards. Jones, Vaughn, Giles, Trescothick and Flintoff were never the same again after that series. Harmison was already on a downward curve as was Hoggard and G. Jones. It was a titanic effort to top that aussie side. Much as I enjoyed Englands Ashes win recently, it felt like beating up a ten year old.

  • Such a piss take he got such a bad injury.

  • amazing bowler and best number 11 iv ever seen

  • was such a good damm bowler

  • Man! What a Talent...

  • this is very first vid i watched on youtube 3 years ago

  • Who would have thought the 4th Test at Trent Bridge, where he took a 5-for, would be his last match for England? Such a shame.

  • You can put Razorlight to a montage of some of the greatest cricketing memories of recent times...they're still terrible.

  • @vicavox A million times yes. Why does everyone decide to dilute the montage videos they make with their bullshit choice in music, no one fucking cares what your choice in bullshit assinine soft rock is sucka!

  • God, what amazing bowler he was during that series.

  • That Clark ball is still the best bit of fast bowling I've seen.

  • @moggoon

I agree. When ever I see that ball by Jones to Clark, I just think it is more amazing each time. The way he made the ball sing off the surface was incredible. Incredible lift too. Shame he had so many injuries as I think he would have been up there with around the 200-250 test wickets.

  • @moggoon one of the best balls of all time

  • @moggoon I guess you didn't see MUCH of Waqar and Wasim then? : /

  • @moggoon you must not watch cricket much then..

  • Having said that they did wonderfully well under Vaughan to not lose a test series home or away from early 2003 down under until early 2006 in Pakistan - arguably their greatest run after the 50's where they were unbeaten in a test series for 8 years.

  • that was late 2005 against pakistan...but no that was a great england team. im really not to sure about this current line up in bangladesh.

  • England certainly muffed a golden opportunity to dominate world cricket by failing to cash in on a golden era of pace bowling. Of course Jones and Vaughan's on going injury problems (especially down under in 2006-07) didn't help, nor did Harmison's poor attitude when touring. Harmison should have been one of the great bowlers of all time, not just for England, but that the world has ever seen. Jones unfortunately never played another game for Eng after he destroyed Aust at Old Tra and Trnt Br

  • i cant help but wonder how good england would be if jones and flintoff were fit more.

  • what a legend!!

i disagree on the 'best ball', i think the Kasprowicz one at 2:20 is the best - murdered the batsman ;)

    great video

  • i would say jones is the best bowler ive ever seen, welsh, english or whatever,-but that was 2005-he will never recover from those injuries-hampshire will quietly disregard him-its tough on him,-he has a young family,

  • This video makes me happy

  • 1: reverse swing lmao.........

  • That IS very Good!

  • a amazing bowler, gone to hampshire he will do well there and hopefully back in the england squad

  • @kingcon921 He's still got a few years ahead of him (4?) but after the injury problems I doubt he, like Harmison or Hoggard will be welcomed back into the England fold... which is a shame, he's the best Welsh cricketer I've ever seen!

  • Where is he?I didn't see him after the ashs05! he is very gd bowler.................

  • Love the ball to Kasporwik (sorry about the spelling)

  • Simon jones was amazing

  • the michael clarke ball at 1:39 is unbelievable! what a bowler!

  • i know this chap in person :(

brings a tear to my eye to watch this video

    thanks for uploading

  • what if he wouldnt have got injured...Fredddie wouldnt have retired & stayed fit ....Harmy wouldnt have got wayward...& Oggie would have continued his fine streak....Eng would have one of best attacks of all time ...whoa!

  • fantastic talent but injury wrecked his career ....we won't be seeing him again in an england shirt

  • I love this vid! I've watched it so many times. Great tribute to a great lad who needs some luck.Well done! Great stuff

  • I just hope he has some luck. deserves some. he could have had an incredible career.

  • jones and freddie and harmy wat a combination, really feel for simon hes injuries keepin him out of playin for england if england can get him back they will have a strong attack.....no1 can replace freddie but he comes closest to replacing him...pace swing reverse swing hes got the lot

  • Andrew Flintoff, the most over rated player of all time.

  • if u compare him with Ian Botham ...yes!!

but he's had a charismatic presence....& probably best allrounder of his time....

  • how? unlucky yes overrated dont think so.....played a huge role in the 05 ashes and got ponting run out in recent ahes bowls excellently (although record doesnt show it) and is a dangerous batter when he gets in....i bet you every team in the world would love to have him in there team

  • this is a Great vid, of a Great Player!

  • did simon jones play a test after the ashes?

  • Not that I know of, but he had good seasons at his county, despite new and old injuries.

  • Great player.

  • we would at leest hv not got white washed if he wuznt injured in 06/07

  • So glad he's not playing in this Ashes series otherwise Australia would be fucked!

  • what happened? Cricinfo says the last test he played was during that series. Was he injured badly?

  • Fantatsic bowler, absolutely raped us in 05. Bet you wish you had him in 06/07. Not sure about the batting highlights either. Good show though

  • Shame he wasn't even talked about all that much at the time, despite having the best figures from what i remember. I remember on his test debut thinking he was going to be an excellent bowler. I honestly beleive he'd be England's best if he'd stayed fit. Hopefully he'll get another chance!

  • 1 series wonder

  • No-performed well in WIndies and in S Africa-ignorance is bliss

  • windies are rubbish and SA were only average that time they played england. its not a negative comment that hes a 1 series wonder. he was bloody amazing in the 05 ashes

  • he was fucking incredible for ages before he got seriously injured, even after that he did amazingly in the 05 series

  • can someone help me where to get the new flash player

  • google it!

  • Jones and Freddie both tragic careers riddled by injury. Imagine what a force in world cricket we could be now if they could have stayed fit for a few years

  • a forgotten legend of the 2005 series, shame hes been injured ever since.

  • cricket misses him :( and others like him.

  • simon jones is injured....he was there watching in cardiff test....................dissapointed

  • 1:39 is fucking awesome

  • A video on Simon Jones...well deserved too. He was quite brilliant in Ashes 2005 & missed.

  • Guys where's Simon Jones? Why he is not playing in Ashes 09. English selectors sukc balls.

  • Injured.

  • Injured... :( And hes just been released by his county :( I feel for him :(

  • Out for the season, again. Shame

  • y u watchin then??

  • england bowlin not the same ....the same intensity isnt there like it was in 2005 dump onions bring back harmy and take panesar out and give rashid a chance

  • Have to agree about Harmy...

Broad just dosent have the same pace and bounce YET.

    Flintoff

    Broad

    Swann

    Harmision

    Anderson

Is what i would of played.

  • Finally a bit of common sense Harmy is added to the 14 man squad for lords.

I reckon Ponting and Hughes will both have nightmares if common sense prevails and he is chosen in the 11.

For those that dont remember in 2005 at Lords, Ponting has a scar on his melon after Harmy bowled a vicious delivery that struck Ponting on the helmet pushing his grill into his face and slicing him open, giving him a battle scar to remember, the memories will come flooding back when Harmy charges in to bowl again.

  • have u watched harmison past 2004? he bowled well against the aussies in lords test and well against india in 2006 at old trafford, past that hes been shit.

  • Jones V Clarke

No winner ... Off stump straight out!

What a legend.. hopefully he gets back to full fitness in time for England soon.

  • As i mentioned 3 months ago the Australian order will decimate broad and Anderson.

I cannot remember Anderson ever getting more than 2 wickets in a innings against them.

The Australians were extremely pleased to see Harmison omitted from the 1st test.

He is one of the few bowlers along with Flintoff and Simon Jones who has caused havoc in the past. One thing is clear Englands attack is one prong Flintoff.Bring back Hamy or it could be a repeat of the embarrasment of 2006

  • Shame about his injuries because he was an unreal swing bowler. I think Anderson has the potential to be better then Jones but I wouldnt mind seeing both of them in a bowling attack.

If they all had of stayed fit & kept there form after the Ashes they could of been one of the best pace attack ever.

The great opening swing bowling from Hog, the tall pace and bounce from Harmy, the swing of Jones & the all round magic from Freddie.

  • What song is this?

  • back to the start by razorlight

  • What a bowling attack that was... Harmison/Hoggard/Jones/Flintoff, and all four of em in good nick.

Jones in particular was absolutely lethal.

(that reverse swinger which smashed out Clarke's off stump... nuff said)

Probably the only time he's ever played a run of matches for England when in top form, and THE ONLY time that awesome Aussie top order ever looked genuinely twitchy and nervous.

Vaughan's captaincy & Jones' bowling are by far the two biggest factors in our winning that series.

  • what bout Freddie :(

I think he was the best throughout the Ashes

  • That lbw second ball was pure pace.

  • ahah steyn bowls 83 jones bowls 93.

  • If the ball is swinging which it will in england then the English bowling attack is the best in the world.

  • Comment removed

  • all i know is the englans selecters can suck my balls U ALL KNOW WHY so im not guna even explane

  • wat ii didnt get was right afta his double hundred they dropped him........... wat the hell?

  • Best no.11 ever.

  • I'll go along with that.

Always good for a few quick runs with the bat.

  • simon jones ashes comeback for sure, yah i mean graham onions did do well i mean but it was against west indies who r absolutely pathetic i mean i laugh looking at their batting line up, i mean they have barely any1 who averages over 40 in that domestic competition besides gayle and chanderpaul

  • australi'ns piss in their panties when they c jones holding ball in his hands n running so fiercly towards them..... joncy where r u mate? come early and nip aussies bud in the mud......

  • Agreed, Stuey Broad isn't THAT good... A very useful batsman and a good back-up bowling prospect. But let's think here. Hoggard? Sidebottom? Jones? Harmison? Anderson? Broad? Kirkley? Plunkett? Mahmood? (Freddie is not a bowler, per say)
  • I forgot Tremlett

  • Darren Gough (although retired)

  • freddie is failing with the bat, but taking loads of wickets at the moment so i would have to say he is mainly a bowler and usefull lower order batsman

  • i agree broad aint all dat.......and i dont get y dont they give hoggard anotha shot he bowls so gd 2 left handers

  • yeah - you're on the ball there, i mean england really did struggle against chanderpaul (a nother left-hander)

and i've got nothing against sidebottom, but i think hoggy would get that extra swing

  • wow, i didn't know he was such a good batsman, i knew about his bowling, evidently but wow!

but if we exclude monty, impossible sometimes, that means our tail is all left-handed batsmen, oooooh

  • if we want to win he must be in the side fast and stright a new brian statham.

  • so beautifull

  • boy ... wat a delight 2 c him in action ...

    hope 2 c him soon ... mayb 09 ashes :)

  • Fill SiJo full of something so Jones can bowl this summer. England need him , oz they fear him.

  • Its no coincidence England havent beaten Australia in a Test Match since the last time Jones terrorised them at Oval in 2005.

If he is available to play in the upcoming Ashes the England selectors would have rocks in their head not to pick him and if they dont they should be dropped.

The Australian middle Order will decimate Broad and Anderson, but their will be scars below the surface with Jones.

  • gd batsman to

  • he could be a chance for the 09 ashes im an aussie and even i would love to see him and ben hilfenhaus square off easily the best 2 swing bowlers ive seen for ages

  • that best ball is easily the best

  • class.....there is nofin else i can say just class i wud love to see him play in this years ashes it would make my year....atm england have got no real bowlers flintoff is back which is good, sidebottom is kl, harmison is goood aswell but i dont like broad....the question that appeals to me is y dont they bring matthew hoggard back he is way better than broad......i think the ECB team selectors are off it

  • Lol, you don't like Broad? Broad is one of our best at the moment, Harmi got dropped cause he has lost it and Flintoff is the same. We really need Simon back, he was a key baller during the Ashes in 2005.

  • England are in real trouble unless Jones and Flintoff are fit and back bowling together in tandem. After a slow start to the year losing the 1st 2 tests to S.A ,Australia look like making it 3 in a row against S.A, Phil Hughes has become the youngest player In Test History to score back to back hundreds in a test and with Mitchell Johnson sending SMITH and KALLIS off to the hospital for x-rays with his 150k firebolts, england must be preying Jones and Flintoff get fit and fast.

  • i dont like broad because he aint consistant...i mean england had only bought him in the team due to injuries in the team, when hoggard flintoff and em were injured and harmison retired he came in.....he aint relli englands best bowler i mean that my opinion but i respect urz aswell....the thing is england have more talent and im sayin that if they try hoggard again he cud come back to give england a boost atm england r geting F***ed by the WI no one has relli found a way through sarwan

  • jones and waqar would be a decent opening attack

  • They'd be even better after a few overs ;)

  • Quality video. England miss this bloke.

  • Shame he got injured so much, would have liked to see him bowl here in the 06/07 ashes.

  • luvin the music mixed in with commentary m8 fukin quality

  • shane bond = simon jones

if they weren't injured they would be world class, but sadly the will be remembered for their injuries.

  • "the best ball one more time" i remember that so well, i think that was the 4th ball of the over and the first 3 balls he pitched outside leg stump. then on the 4th he used the reverse swing and completely fools the batsman. "that is very good. the swing works the oracle again!!" simply a brilliant piece of bowling

  • he really is a fine player im not sure if he got enough credit for his contribution in the 05 ashes there was alot of mention of flintoff and pietersen but jones was really was the key. just think in the edgbaston test if he didnt put on that partner ship for the last wicket with i cant remember if it was kp or freddie then the aussies would have won and poms would have been down 2-0. i would love to see him again in the test arena because in honesty if fit is probably englands best bowler atm

  • It's is such a shame that he just can't get his body right. As an aussie fan it hurt me to see Jones make the australian batsmen look foolish but he is a great bowler and I wouldn't mind seeing him in the English XI in 2009, that would be an awesome contest

  • my action is similar to his. but i can't get the short ball quite as high.

  • Shame

  • Simon Jones is ready for it. Just wait untill the askes comes around and he will be on fire. He Does'nt need to go to the IPL. He better than that. Simon Jones.Your My Hero. Still remember when he made hayden look silly back in australia before that freak injury. Bring Back The main Man!!

  • I am not sure which innings you are referring to, i was at the Gabba back in 2002 when Jones got Langer out for 32 in the 1st session, not long after he was stretchered off after a mishap in the field. Hayden went on to make 192 i think it was and made Nasser hussains decision to field on day 1 of the ashes look mortifying.

  • i agree. simon jones and shane bond of NZ would have been world beaters had their body allowed them to. its a shame

  • jones is like a role model to so many people including me....for him 2 come back 2 the team will be like a dream for england since they have flintoff back in form in batting and bowling and harminson back from retirement..england will beat australia in the next ashes series any time...too bad that jones is injured again gope he gets fit and in form once again......Jones has everything pace swing bounce....and that is hard 2 get all those from oone bowler he is like a key to England

  • If England are smart they will get jones the best physician in the Country and do everything possible with his rehabilitation to get him back on the paddock.

lets not delude ourselves, England need strikepower, Australia have lost only 2 series in the last 13 years for a reason, they are a bloody good cricket side, and with rumors off warne making a return will only make england task that much harder to regain the ashes.

  • They definitely want him back but are clearly scared he might break down again. A bit like NZ with Shane Bond, they are worried to rely on him. I feel he was the biggest reason we won in 2005

  • yeh but look at bond now he plays for ICL cause NZ aint callin him back and he seems in good shape at ICL....if this goes on Jones might go to ICL or IPL aswell.....if he goes 2 ICL he will banned from international cricket den wat???............if they realy wanted him back they wudnt jus sit there and wait for something magical 2 happen....dey wud do smefin abt it to make him become betta and get his fitness levels right

  • Jones has the power..

  • what will happene when he will return for england frediee harmy broad ryan anderson and now jones oh our fast bowling attack will be the best inshallah

  • England have 3 world class bowlers in Flintoff, jones and Harmison and there would still be a few mental scars from 2005 Ashes.

i doubt sidebottom will be as effective against the lefties in Hayden,Jacques, katich and Hussey.

Steve waugh posted recently in Sydney morning herald that England need Flintoff and Jones bowling in tandem once again to regain the ashes as last time round they were lethal with 42 wickets between them.

Jones has played in 5 tests against Australia for 2-2-1

  • yap you r right ohh ashes 2005 was the best series in history of this game the thing which makes them diffrent from anderson ryan and broad is the art of reverse swing.

  • Morts: Agree. Our bowling attack is weak. Jones was second in the county averages this summer (if I recall). The guy who beat him bowled 2 overs and got a wicket. Essentially Jones was top bowler, yet not selected. The problem, as with much sport here, cricket is run by committee. Same with soccer and Rugby Union, ran by committee. All it takes is one committee member to disagree and the whole system collapses. Olympic sport, ran by performance directors with targets. Difference=success.

  • Simon Jones Destroyed the Australian Middle order in the 2005 Ashes 18 wickets in 3.5 tests at 21 a piece. He was responsible for future Australian test Captain Michael Clarke being dropped and played a major role in ending Simon Katich and Damien Martyn reign in the Australian Test team after the ashes tour.

He is a World Class swing bowler and it was no secret the England attack looked pedestrian without him in Australia last summer.

England will not win the Ashes back without a fit Jones.

  • what happend to him?

  • Love how many Aussies are saying they would love to see us get smashed ... very patriotic guys. I know it may sound crazy but as an Aussie I'd like to see us win in 09. Go Australia!

  • Brilliant film!

    Which song is it?

    Schöner Film!

    Welcher Song ist das?

  • Jones is magic. The aggression, the heart, the pace and that reverse swing.

    WATCH OUT YOU AUSSIES!

  • 1:40.....a bowlers dream.

  • the thing is......England did what Pakistan does to most out of form/injured stars. Forget them. Now that he's back on track, they are ready to kiss his ass. This guy can bowl.

  • I heard that if he never had any injuries he would have been bowling 100 mph balls. Nuts.

  • Its warning Australia alright. This guy is fuc*ing awesome when he's on top form and mark my words, you heard it here first - he'll be back for the Ashes in 09. He was without a doubt, the difference between the 2 sides in 05 and he will be next year as well. Chew on that all of Australia!

  • WARNING AUSTRALIA ...

This guy is back to his best

He is taking regular four to five wicket hauls for Worcestershire and he will be back into the England team in no time!

The Ashes are going back where they belong

    Note: I am Australian LOL

  • I agree with you richspur2004 I'd love to see England destroy Australia and I am a First Fleet convict descendant

The Aussie team just got too big for their boots.. would be great to see the Aussies get SMASHED at the home of cricket..

  • Same - I'm Australian and I would love to see some of those arrogant bullies (e.g. Hayden, Ponting, Symonds) trounced by the likes of Jones and Flintoff. '05 was a great series, and Test cricket needs an encore.

  • Funny that the 06' series didn't feature Simon Jones.. or Trescothick or Michael Vaughan.. 3 of the key reasons that England won in 2005..

This time the Aussies will be short.. no McGrath, no Warne, no Langer.

I would love to see them destroyed by Flintoff, Jones & Sidebottom. And I think that it IS coming..

  • Unfortunately Sidebottom can not bowl.

  • What part of 76 test wickets @ 25.68 tells you he cannot bowl? Maybe you should actually watch him bowl sometime he looks like the best left hander going around in test cricket today.

Or I hope you are referring to his recent injury. Fit he is one the best opening bowlers in the world.

  • Sidebottom bowls fast-medium left arm swing. He gets some wickets because people aren't that used to playing against left arm swing. But he'd fail against australia, he's nothing compared to Simon Jones, Steve Harmison or Andrew Flintoff.

  • I know what the man bowls.. when was the last time that Australia fielded a good left arm bowler that could swing the ball in? Mike Whitney?

The Aussies will play him with less assurance in England than they will Flintoff. He is Hoggards natural replacement.

  • Bit harsh!

Sidebottom has had a fantastic year - that you cannot doubt. He carried the England attack through New Zealand when the rest didn't quite make the grade.

However , in a side , with Harmison , Flintoff , Broad and Jones/Anderson (Think Jones - if fit - could challenge Anderson's place) , he won't make it.

Feel a bit sorry for him , as he works his guts off often with some really wrotten luck - but unless he can work his way back into the side soon , he will be unlikely to start.

  • Brilliant video!

Bring Jones back for the Ashes 09 if he's fit. Sidebottom, Broad, Jones, Flintoff and Panesar for the bowling attack.

  • i dont like broad he's kind of shit

  • Whats wrong with Jimmy Anderson??

  • they should take stuart broad out and put simon jones back in the team and mean there not even puttin fuckin hoggard back in the team, the best swing bowlers i have ever seen hoggard and simon jones they would make the best opening bowlers

  • when he gets it right this man is lethal sometimes he bowls to straight though. took a five-fer the other day which is good news hopefully in a few months he could be back along with flintoff to take on south africa.

  • You mean 2nd string bowlers who absolutely ripped through New Zealand like Sidebottom? And a very good prospect in Broad.

Idiot. American shoulds stick to stuff they know, don't pretend to know about cricket bubblerz, thanks.

Jones will be back for us before long, hopefully!

    Cya

  • to bad england can't get a bowler of his standard into the side again cannot win with 2nd string bowlers in a test match

  • If we had him in the Ashes tour we may have faired a bit better I'm sure. Top fast bowler.

A massive disappointment to England and I'd go as far as to say lucky for the Aussies, that he never got over his injury woes.

    A real shame.

  • The only decent English bowler i have seen. But the guy has disappeared after this ashes series.

  • in 2005 ashes he was the man who made the difference

  • It's such a pity for England that Simon Jones can't stay fit enough for test cricket. What he brings to a team in both skill and other areas is so incredibly valuable. Can anyone tell me if he is back playing first class cricket yet?

  • ..Yeh, he will play for Worcestershire this coming season.. he's on the road back to international cricket.. Hopefully !

  • this is the dude waqar younis reckons bowls one of the best reverse swingers in the game in the last years, before his injury.

  • Waqar taught him how to bowl at Glam. :P

  • How many times did Atherton say 'Gone'? Simon Jones is a legend...

  • he does say it an awful lot, why not just say 'out' for once

  • Four. But i get your point. I quite like it, it's like his catchphrase.

I'd really like to see Jones back in the team. I can't remember much of him playing but videos like this one show his class.

  • his role in tht series is sometime undervalued due to freddie.Surely englands most valuable player in the ashes 2005 series after freddie...

  • Thanks very much for putting this video up, makes me smile! Hope he can put his injury problems behind him at his new club.

Just a note - the delivery at 2.19 is such a good ball to bowl to a tailender!

  • Simon Jones was so good back then, his action is perfect :) like Sajid Mahmood's ?! lets hope he gets fit and can start steaming in at 90 Mph again !

  • problem is that sajid mahmood is balls

  • wats this song called?

  • it says at the very end

  • i think players like stuart broad and bopara should get out the team and they should get back simon jones and trescothick u can't beat those kind of players
