  • If we all restricted childbirth to one child per couple, then

our numbers would half every generation. THAT'S the

REAL answer to all this that nobody is talking about!!

  • yeah, communism is the answer.

  • @kermitcintronsucks If the alternative is 9 billion people

on earth, sea rise, drought, famine here in this country,

and the oil running out, then yes, communism, socialism,

fascism, anything that makes people stop breeding would

    be an answer.

  • mylittlebonyboy, obama didn't completely lift the executive ban like bush did.

  • So much for your prediction skimbrain

  • All Obama has to do is announce opening drilling, then prices will go below $2 a gallon. These liberal fruitcakes are going to make things worse for generations by trying to "save the planet".

  • @skimboardmonster So much for your prediction

  • @skimboardmonster So much for your prediction obama opened drilling and poof higher prices. Price is a function of market forces. Not for a president to manipulate. People do not understand the world they live in.

  • @skimboardmonster All the dry holes and tar sands will produce

is $10 and $15 a gallon gasoline. It has nothing whatsoever to

do with saving the planet, that happens to be a SEPARATE issue.

The problem is that we have exhausted the oil that is cheap to get.

The evidence is that new finds using the most advanced technology

have been failing to find enough since the 70's. That's why the price

of gas is no longer 35 cents a gallon. It TAKES more oil to GET AT

the oil than before, and it's costly.

  • R.I.P. Matthew

  • You know what would solve this.. Hemp oil can be used as gas to power our vehicles. Its superbly clean for the environment, hemp grows extremely fast, hemp is pest resistant, it cleans the pollutions in the ground, and it virtually grows anywhere in just about any climate and soil. I think hemp would be the best way to make gas and many, many other products.. Do you research for yourself and find out what you learn.

  • @mexicano7771000 Another fruitcake pot head with a transparent agenda.

No matter WHAT you grow, you could not produce enough bio-oil from

plants even if you planted ALL the arable land in them, INSTEAD OF FOOD!!

    Go look it up.

  • @rstevewarmorycom I have no agenda, and what makes you think I'm a pothead? I think if this plant could save something worth saving, why not use it?if it was any other type plant I would still vote for its use. And why not you use hydrogen then? Hydrogen the best alternative. And even if you don't have enough land, a small amount of hemp can be used for anything else like rope, paint, plastics, food, and much more. It can be grown for the seeds that are highly nutritious. Don't like the truth?

  • @mexicano7771000 Who else but a pothead would think that the

answer to everything is to grow pot? ;-> It's silly! There are LOTS

more oil-productive plants, go look it up! And hydrogen is NOT a

SOURCE of power, it is merely a way to STORE power from either

fossil fuels or sunlight/wind/geothermal/tidal. Did you know that an

acre of ground with photovoltaic solar cells on it will produce 20

TIMES the energy that the BEST plants can produce in oil and

cellulose?? Plants are NOT very efficient.

  • @rstevewarmorycom Did I say it's the answer to everything? It is the answer to some things, and can at least be helpful. Besides what are you talking about?? Hemp was massively produced in the 1800's. Why not save the forests with hemp paper? Which is cleaner and the paper is tougher and last's longer without yellowing. I'm giving you alternatives and your ignoring it like another ignorant politician. Do more research man..

  • @mexicano7771000 Save the forests. Do without paper! Don't

use toilet paper, get a bidet and dry with a towel. Use towels,

rags and handkerchiefs again. Learn to wash things. We need

to plant WAAAAY more trees, not sow forests into hemp fields

just so you can cruise the strip in your low-rider!

  • @rstevewarmorycom Wtf are you talking about? I just said hemp makes more paper per yield than trees! Your a ignorant prick who can't read apparently. Hah low-rider. What makes you think that? My account name? Seriously. Grow the fuck up man. And do some damn research!

  • well when oil gets that exspensive ill be biking it

  • If he has a best friend and/or loving wife- I hope they speak up about their thoughts and feelings as to how he passed away. Mainly, we need to study what he has said, and what he did not say.

  • is that why hes dead? of a "Heart Attack" okk

  • very interesting theory re why Matt Simmons was killed

  • RIP Matt, I always enjoyed listening to you. 1942 – August 8, 2010.

  • Sounds like an elite himself in end "Just stay home, don't travel,........... learn to love your Ipod and pay you taxes, you slaves !!!!!!

He really shit on electric cars and new energy alternatives........I'm guessing this guy was not a Left progressive.

  • Find another way to get energy stop beeing so fuckin dependant on oil. I hate big corperations

  • @NitroxideHS

The global elite will reveal a new energy technology soon.......because they are Luciferians, they love you.

  • Comment removed

  • he is telling that we will pay $600 pb when it comes this guy is too fucking crazy!

i really wanna know why the gasoline got so expensive in just 10 years!!

  • No one likes Matt because he tells the truth that we don't want to hear but know we should...

  • @itisaduck

i agree with yOu thOse place have Oil,STILL!!!

Free energy exists since 1902 NicOla Tesla created(fOr humans tO have it freely) and OF COURSE existed MILLIONS OF YEARS AGO...

And was And is used always by them whO knOwS.

    Let's find Out,shall we...

    sO nO need tO drill!

  • At least China got to see the light at the end of the tunnel, nothing more though

  • we had the medieval times, renaissance, the industrial age, ????. What should we call the future one?

  • @nowaywtf

There was a decline of civilization between the high middle ages and the renaissance, when the Black Death hit Europe, something similar is what's going to happen now.

I guess we'll call this the "Greater Depression", at least initially.

  • will this upcoming economic crisis cause a 3rd word war?

  • "Halting of oil exports."

That phrase is kind of ominous.

  • if there's not much oil left then why is it relatively cheap ? .. it just doesn't make sense to me - I think people know that there is plenty of oil in the Canadian tar sands.

  • Again, it's due to the low demand at the moment thanks to the economic situation. Second, oil is NOT running out, instead availability of cheap oil is declining.

Canadian tar sands are NOT cheap sources.

  • Before you say 'plenty', you need to understand demand. Global demand is 85 million barrels/day AND GROWING as China and India industrialize and create their own middle classes. Canadian tar sands HOPE that they can ramp up production to 1 million barrels/day. Meanwhile the US consumes 21 million per day and imports 14M of that.

  • how does natural gas play into the equation ? there seems to be more of that resource ready to exploit .. if you believe the believers anyway ..

  • Nat gas is great and the recent surge in production is welcome. I actually drive a car that uses it. But that doesn't mean that its enough to replace oil. It simply cannot.

We need a very aggressive energy strategy and we need it right now. 'Drill baby drill' is NOT a strategy.

  • It's amazing how many stupid people I've come across on the subject of Peak Oil. I mean there are literally thousands of videos on Youtube explaining in excruciating detail the scientific reasons behind PO, yet still there are people in denial. My feeling is don't bother with people like this. Anyone that stubborn, or that stupid, simply isn't worth your time. Just let them be and have their own opinions. Unfortunately they can't do the same. They come to PO videos and insist on causing trouble.

  • is he Richard Simmons brother ? they look alike ..

  • Simmons: "We need to learn how to travel less."

Paikin: (awkward pause) "That's, uh...no one wants to do that, people love to travel, people love to get out, they love to get around, they like the democracy of being able to go wherever they want, whenever they want."

    Wonderful moment!

  • Electric cars are stupid, wasteful, and toxic.

Q What fuel created that electricity?

    A Coal or fuel oil.

  • yeah so.. electric motors are far more efficient then gas engines..

  • You're right, but your shortsightedness is amazing. The conversion of energy to motion IS efficient in an electric motor, but transmission or storage of electricity is NOT. What produced that electricity? Do some research. I can't wait till the story breaks about Prius' needing new battery packs at $4000+ You won't be able to give them away. I say most of the previous sales were due to tax incentives or waived HOV restrictions.

  • Simmons says there are 900 million vehicles in the US. What happens when there is gas shortages?

At least with an electric vehicle ,. a gas shortage will not be a problem.

  • ANOTHER IDIOT.

Where does the electricity come from?

    THINK PEOPLE!

  • dcsleeper, look in the mirror when you use the term idiot. Electric can easily be converted from the Sun, I bet you didn't know that did you dumbass. Or how about windmill, ie windfarms, or easily from hydroelectric since Tesla first did it with Niagra falls you fucking nimrod.

  • way to use your curse words!

electricity in this counttry is either from coal or oil. hydro is a SMALL percentage. If there is a gas shortage, there is an oil shortage. You are , as I said, an idiot.

Go tell your obama fairy tales elsewhere. Or just keep your head in the sand as it is now.

  • Uhh dcsleeper, apparently you were ASLEEP watching this video, furthemore you have a hard time understanding the concept of Peak Oil, When oil is plentifull & cheap it is used in power plants, when it becomes scarece and expensive what do YOU do, well you, you probaly boohoo about Obama & blame all your problems on Obama.

The fault of this lies with all of us & if we do not make the changes now we are doomed.

  • You suck at debate. You now look the fool in public. *I* understand Peak Oil.*You* don't understand that for all practical purposes, there is no solar or wind generated electricity in the US. It's not even a few percentage points. *you* said "At least with an electric vehicle ,. a gas shortage will not be a problem." Of course there will. That's why I called you an idiot. You have stopped defending what you said, and are now trying to change the subject.

  • desleeper, You must have an extremely large head and be stubborn as a mule lol.

Here's how electricity can be made without sucking on the Arab Oil tit. It can be made from Hydroelectric damns, Solar power, wind farms, Nuclear.

How you & the rest decide to allocate resources to tap into energy by these means is up to you. If you decide that you want to continue import more oil "we are at 70% NOW" then you will pay the price. High prices & shortages. The choice is yours to make.

  • How do you construct all of that? How about the resources required to build these assets? Even those processes will involve oil.

Saying that, replacing oil demand with alternative sources is not possible. Even in solar/ wind power heavy Northern European nations, where compact, anti-consumerist (points to tax rates) arrangements still have a significant demand for fossil fuels.

  • I agree, I think past the point of no return, short of finding a Cantarell or Gehwar sized oil field. In short we are fucked.

For my own entertainment and ironic musings I am installing a homemade solar panels, ie Harbor Freight on my house. Funny, I go into Home Depot's and ask for Solar & they look at me like I am asking em where the Home Nuclear battery's are.

Just bought a new sports car with the Cash for Clunkers, I'm putting the pedal to the metal till the gasoline is gone. Ha Ha.

  • "replacing oil demand with alternative sources is not possible"

Anything is possible, it's just a matter of time and money. Sure, it will be a chock to the system, but when oil starts surging to hundreds of dollars alternative energy is going to seem increasingly attractive. Indeed, I think it's fair to suspect that real economic forces will drive renewable energy much better than climate worries ever did.

Meanwhile, of course the demand is going to have to be curbed to some extent.

  • I am referring to maintaining similar consumption patterns and lifestyles while shifting to alternative energy. It just seems unfair that nations like China and India can't employ the suburban path instead.

The solution to cutting down per capita consumption isn't that difficult. For one, suburbia needs to end. That does not mean throwing us into skyscrapers. Instead, present suburbs need to be zoned into mixed-used areas where inhabitants live close to work.

PS: Nuclear energy is the future.

  • @ankprat there are more things to be taken into account - growing rate of consumption of energy is vital for economy and our monetary system, oil is not used merely for transportation but also for growing food (which enabled us to support 6,5bil people and growing by 1%p.a.) , producing almost all consumer goods and, of course, the idea of globalization and world trade which otherwise would not be possible. You can never replace oil with alternatives to the same extent or even to a similar one..

  • @Jonathanio3 "You can never replace oil with alternatives to the same extent or even to a similar one.. "

My friend, necesity is the mother of all invention.

  • dcsleeper, your mind is as thick as a brick. If one was to buy the all electric Tesla sports car available now, you would never have to put a drop of gas in it.

You may not have a problem dumping tons of carbon into the biosphere, I'm sure future generations will build a statue in honor of your forthsightness in keeping the planet polluted & empty of any fossil fuels left for them. Probaly not, you will go down as one of asshole's who fucked up the planet.

  • Let it go Idiot. You cannot grasp that the electricity that goes in your car is generated with fossil fuels can you? Sure it might be different in the future, but it isn't NOW. It can be made with an orange and a penny too, but we're not doing that either. STFU. You've done nothing but make yourself look like uneducated ass, with your posts.

  • dcsleeper, your stubborness is makeing me laugh out loud literaly. Your comments are great in showing how bone headed you are in not trying to think outside the box, ie let's not try to change our beheavior or the way we generate energy, lets just keep digging the hole deeper.

The future is coming up quick, keep doing what your doing and you will have no future.

Keep telling yourself there is no Peak Oil, like the the economic bubble tied to it that only the most dense of people fail to see

  • Prius isn't even an electric car, i'm talking about when cars like the Volt come out.

  • maybe not right away, then they wont drive. Save up for a year and you can buy one. After 5 years those new electric cars will all become used and they can be sold cheap. Plus the price of the tech will drop quickly because 3$/leter will give people more incentive to buy electric. There just was never a big incentive to purchase a Prius at the current gas prices. Pus they are ugly cars lol

  • I'm currently stocked up on Oilsand juniour stocks right now so i'm good for a short burst in gas price's lol. Maybe i'm bias at the moment.

  • nice pespective, but it is true he is missing the point that with 300$ barrel and the availible tech, everyone would herd towards prius type technologies.

  • He is right. Cheap oil is quickly becoming a distant memory. And when it fully hits us, it will bring a complete change in what we do and how we live.

  • Think this guy is damn right. Bet we see $147 a barrel within the next 2 years!

  • Well, time to invest in Alberta.

  • I think his predictions about oil fields are correct....but his predictions about what might happen to the world might not be dead on.

higher prices will influence behavior.....electric cars would sell like hot cakes......people will focus much more energy on alternative energy.........I used to be more pessimistic like Matt about this topic....but I am becoming less so with time...as technology might save us for a while longer.

  • it aired on March 17th, 2009

  • Matt's logical is flawed.. he keeps saying "Europeans' pay $300+ for a barrel of oil, therefore the US can handle it.. yes Matt, the difference is due to tax - WHICH GETS RE-SPENT BY GOVERNMENTS. The only people who would get the money in $300+ barrel don't even live in the US.. the producers not the tax spending governments.

  • Well you swim to saudi arabia and can do rain dances on the top of ghawar because whether the price is 1 cent per barrel or 1 trillion - when its gone its gone.

  • March 17, 2009

  • When was this AIRED!?!?!?!!?!???!?!?!?

  • When was this aired ?
