President Obama says that he was for Clean Coal Technology. From WYMT "It's a bill aimed to reduce emissions and improve the environment, but many people in eastern Kentucky say the proposed Cap and Trade bill would devastate the commonwealth. On Saturday, thousands rallied together in Knott County to have their message heard. "I think everybody here is for doing the proper coal mining process, making it as safe and as environmentally friendly as possible," says Joe Grieshop, Harlan Co.J/E
Barack Obama supports clean coal. Here's what he said a while back while he was on the campaign trail: I am a big proponent of clean-coal technology and I want us to move rapidly in developing those sequestration technologies that's required. What we need to do though is to put clean coal technology on the fast track and that means money. It means investment in research. That's something that we should have already been doing.
would someone please explain to me how investing in clean coal technologies promotes energy independence? if anything it makes coal less affordable. and how does it create any new jobs?
Frettsy: First of all, coal is Americas most abundant resource, so USING it for energy through clean coal technologies would make us energy independent
Clean energy is one of President Obamas pillars of his economic recovery plan. In a report conducted by BBC, a coalition of labor groups found that power plants equipped with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies could create between 5 mil and 7 mil man-years of employment during construction and a quarter of a million permanent jobs.
I mean, I'm all for us using coal.. we already do. but shifting to "clean" coal will not promote energy independence. it will simply raise the cost of domestic coal.
Comparing "clean" coal to putting a man on the moon is completely pointless. They are entirely different engineering problems. This is what you get when you have the best government money can buy...*cough cough*
Coal pollutes the land and water when you mine it. It pollutes the air when you burn it and the residual ash thats full of toxins work theyre way into the environment when its stored. And over 2 billion tons of this toxic ash waste is stored at plants in the US. The world just witnessed the effects of a monster sludge spill in Tennessee. Clean coal is total bullshit.
this is pretty funny when biden said there is no such thing as clean coal.... I think this whole idea is a complete lie. Not that i dont support coal, there just is not any such thing as "clean" coal. and to add, obama supports it and then doesnt.... flip flopper. rough times are ahead people, rhetoric got you nowhere, now you get to pay the price!! good luck!
Actually, our coal-based generating fleet is more than 77 percent cleaner today than it was in the 1970s, on the basis of regulated emissions per unit of energy produced.
It's amazing President Obama would have taken such a strong stand for this despite such opposition from closed minded "liberals." He must really believe in the future of clean coal.
Look up how it is mined!!! There is no such thing as "clean coal". They are blowing up entire mountains and the pollution runs down into the water supplies. West Virginia is a disaster area, as well as any areas that the rivers and streams reach. This is very sad.
obama incriminates himself. He told the crowd whatever they wanted to hear to get their vote. In Calif. he said his cap and trade (TAX & DESTROY)would bankrupt the coal industry. In coal mining states he said he was all for clean coal technology. The worst is yet to come! Get ready for universal WELFARE.
Everything he said was true, it's just too bad the two-faced, lying, socialist piece of crap doesn't believe a word he said in the above clip and believes every word of his interview with the San Fran Bunch quoted earlier.
The financial crisis we are currently in is signed sealed and delivered by the Democrat Party, since taking control of Congress in 2006. The end game is total control over American Industry, and the end of economic freedom. The Coal industry has participated in this sham by supporting Barack with campaign cash. This cash has purchased empty rhetoric. Do you want CHANGE? Do you like soup lines? Get used to it, the Democrats are on the march to Socialism.
Barack Obama in a January 17, 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle: I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system....So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted.
We'll see which of these two opposing stances he will choose to sustain in the future.
As someone who has worked in the coal industry, I can say that SO much of what the extremes on the other side say about "Clean Coal" are massively un-true. Please do your research!! Coal mines & Coal Fired Power Plants are one of the most stringently regulated businesses in the U.S. It is unfeasable to rely on "Green" exclusively at this point. Lets put ALL of our resources to work responsibly!

Putting aside the content, this is a kick-butt ad - a great response to some anti-coal ads that have been put out recently.

Clean coal is an oxymoron. Democrats are morons for supporting this guy. Republicans are morons for thinking Obama is a socialist.
