Not really my favorite interpretation, but an amazing display of skill nonetheless :D I just started learning the first prelude and am enjoying every minute of it but I geuss thats the magic behind Gershwins amazing composition skills
Pianist is right. Recordings made by Gershwin himself show a faster tempo than what we're used to hearing today. It's not as 'beautiful', but sounds fresh and lively.
Dear "Arbolgirl"...regardless of tempo "experts," I followed the tempo of Oscar Levant, a personal friend of Gershwin...Also another person who was one of his early teachers....--This movement is most often played too "ala-classical" and too slow and maudlin like.....the Jazz era was faster...not ponderous. And, my dear, IF I'm "rude," then deal with it: life is RUDE!...!!!! But I love your CONCERN....and will try to be....kinder!!!....my best to you!
P.S.--Hey "Arbogirl".....WHO made the "marking" of "88" in your score? Was it Gershwin?...or an editor?....Thank you for your insightful remarks.......H.T.

The second movement was wayyyyy faster than I'm used to hearing it! The marking in the music is only 88! But it was really good!
