  • never inhale threw any brass instrument 0:57 ..... you dont want the fumes goin threw your lungs

  • anybody see his video on breathing. here he is breathing through his mouth?

  • Listen closely at the beginning. He really needs to get some cream on that slide.

  • Try playing C major three octaves.

  • I keep making high notes for a slpit second before I play the note i want to :( a LITTLE help please?...

  • @leeardamer tighten your stomach muscles and work your way up to the note you have to gain alot of lip muscles

  • @Narniapower KK I'll try THANKS!

  • more intonation at 0:00-1:09

  • more air at 0:09

  • thats it

  • Thank you very very much this seriously helped me so much haha

  • Why on earth does he need a music score for the scale if he's supposed to be the teacher?

  • Expert my ass, I could do it better...

  • everions now that ^^

  • hi i play trombone as well its a good instrument huh

  • Practice. That's the only way to learn. Getting a private teacher would be helpful too :) I've been playing trombone for 4 years and now graduating from the middle school and going into the high school. I tried out for the advanced-band at Amador Valley High School and got first chair for WInd Ensemble II. Trust me guys practicing is the only way to go.

  • What really bothers me is that breath he takes in the middle of the scale.

  • I like how his vibrato sounds like a nervous beginner playing Hot Crossed Buns or some shit.

  • don't know what you guys are talking about. i've learned EVERYTHING i know from youtube XD

  • Expert village videos are always so useless... I just watch them when I want a laugh!

  • Are you reading this? Wow! Don't study from a teacher that needs to READ C major scale.

  • you need to play in tune

  • actualy on trombone 7n posihion///

  • wow...this video was less than helpful

  • no tung at the end

  • F major scale only starts in 6th position if you're a beginner and can't reach the high F. :P

  • This has to be a joke.

  • No his tone sounds like a fart!!! Oh, and haha i have an F trigger attachment on my trombone and you dont!!!!!

  • your tone sounds like a vacuum cleaner!

  • How does he even take himself seriously?

  • Expertvillage cracks me up because their videos are created by non professionals

  • This is pathetic.

  • i just started playing trombone and i play the C Major scale like this (6, 4, 2, 1, 4, 2, 4, 3) but some notes dont sound right to me and i know there are alternate slide positions for some of the notes if you could enlighten me on the right positions i'd greatly appreciate it.

  • @rjohnson6708 If you just began playing trombone, the reason may be air support. Most beginners on trombone don't have a good tone due to lack of air flow. Tone gets better as you become more experienced. Those are all the right positions, and I'm assuming lack of air is the problem. Just make sure you expand your stomach as you breathe in order to get as much air as possible through. If that's not the problem, it may just be out of tune or something lol. PM me if you want to know anything else

  • @rjohnson6708 I play the C scale like that as well, at least until I get my F attachment. It sounds fine for me. My first advice would be to check out your positions and play with them a bit until the notes are in tune and sound good.

  • whoever said its a "bad tune" it isnt cause he was perfectly right and how would you know, you dont even play the instrument. I do too. He was right but the scales are too easy he should've done the f major again. Matter fact, the F MAJOR does not start off in sixth position! it starts off as f itself. :/. wow and i'm only twelve thats sad. (daughter of this persons account which is my dad.)

  • @veez3angels I'm sure not going to side with the "expert" showing us how to play the scale but F Major can start in 6th position. If you want to start an octave lower that is.

  • @zigZag776

    (thumbs up)

  • trombone is hard, i don't expect anyone to be super amazing at it. i want to learn though.

  • that was a uh deep breath there, i just take like a quick .8 second breath with my mouth and keep going

  • Real helpful video there.

  • I wanna fukin no how to play the g major

  • bad tune

  • geezus! he forgot high b flat

  • @SillyPuddyBuddy dude for the c scale there is no high B flat

  • @trombonejazzer i forgot

  • he has to look at notes to play a major scale? wow . yeah, an expert

  • it's expert village people, they suck ass

  • I cringed on that A. Second position, god damn.

  • you see. there's this thing. it's called intonation...

  • This guy always plays his As going up way too sharp. always.

  • omg you can get multiple notes in a single slide position i play baritone & i can get 8 notes without fingering i thought each note had it's own slide position

  • your more like a jack of all trades. psh.

  • .......F major should start in first.... unless you’re a little (insert profanity)

  • Comment removed

  • i start playing trompone at age of 9!!!!

    I LOVE it!!!

  • Good lord... He had trouble with moving up a partial from F to C... Also, who else noticed the graveyard of other instruments on the couch?

  • yikes.

  • quit at life...

  • horribly out of tune....

  • Wow, people. F major and F minor both start on the SAME note (that's how you name scales ... by the first note). The low F is only available in sixth (unless your trombone has an F-valve); all other Fs (that are higher) are available in many positions. The F above middle C is available in three different positions (1-4-6).

It depends on which octave--or, more precisely--which part of the harmonic series of a 9' Bb trombone you are referring to when determing slide positions.

  • @OliverKahnNr1 Haha man I was looking for someone smart to put all these idiots in their place. I thank you. :)

  • @OliverKahnNr1 try and sound smarter next time. that time you sounded...idk not as smart as you could have. try harder

  • Thank you for this. It is very inspiring. I have known my 7 trumpet fingerings for over 40 years. I am pretty sure I can play trombone now. Soon I will post a video of me playing Flight of the Bumble Bee on my new vintage t-bone! ;-) I am excited because I saw Trombone Shorty in New Orleans earlier this month, he was awesome!

  • epic fail.

  • F major and F minor can both start in First and sixth, maybe you should all look more carefully at the comments you post, because that would probably be hypocritical ( you saying he's bad while you are yourself).

  • dude my grandma can play better than you! u dumb***

  • @Ddkasn

Ok - make a video of your grandma (or you) playing. Show us a better video. If you know so much, prove it. Because what we need is good videos and instruction.

  • You idiot f minor starts in sixth the major starts in first.

  • @1WFE3 ur an idiot becuase f major does start in sixth position

  • F Major AND F Minor can both start in First AND Sixth, you guys!

Simply because you can play an F (The first note of the F Major/Minor Scale.) in First AND Sixth.

    Use your heads, guys.

  • so true

he really isnt that good they shoukdve gotten a symphony plaey

he puts too much front on his nots

  • @tubadude07

Great - I look forward to your video. Let us know when you've posted it.

  • i love how he has to look at the music to play a one octave scale. and yeah he sucks a little. i wouldn't complain as much but this is supposed to be teaching people? yeah right

  • U PLAY THE WRONG NOTES DUMB ASS

  • he does not did you look at the key signature

  • You need to get your scales book back out and have another look at it again. He is playing the right notes and correct positions.

  • I hate the way he holds the slide so sloppy

  • I hate to see slide being held with one finger and a thumb

  • man he sucks. im glad i dont get my private lessons from this guy

  • That A sounds really sharp! And dude, instead making videos, you should be a director. People don't buy instruments and look on how to play it on YouTube. It's called "band class" or "marching band"

  • WRONG! I'm looking to find help on how to play the trombone via youtube, the only band class that fits my schedule is advanced band, thus the band teacher has no time to teach me to play. I have to teach my self, with the internet. Heres a life lesson; don't be so quick to criticize.

  • Yes... if you want to learn a new instrument you take 7th grade beginners class... or you can take private lessons.... you never want to learn by youtube.... unless you want to get music a sheet from the video and they play it for so you can learn the rhythms.... trust me... I've played trombone for 4 years and im in the top band at my school.... i've never learned a thing on youtube about ho to play something.... unless like i said before, i wanted to play a music sheet from zoot69 or someone..

  • @colinpownz I agree fully man, I am a first chair trumpet in the famous avon band high school and i never learned anything form youtube. only years of practice.

  • How in the world does this teach HOW to play the C Major Scale? Also, you're playing ability is horrible. Don't make instructional videos of something you can't even do. In fact, don't even BE in instructional videos because you apparently lack the actual ability to teach/instruct.

  • vaya mierda de video!!!!(translate,go fuck video !!!!!!

  • i love how he tries to pass his inconsistent tone as vibrato.

if someone is just learning to play the instrument, i'm pretty sure they're going to start on Bb anyway.

  • wow.

  • He is horrible. Breathing is poor, tone is atrocious. Please delete this video.

  • this is embarassing. expert village is a horrible outlet for instruction. try a real private teacher

  • Hi, i've just got a trombone from a friend of mine and when i try to play the middle c it sounds like c#. im just a beginner. im a little confused coz according to a fingering chart i downloaded the middle c is supposed to be played at the third position. why does it sound like c#?

any help will be appreciated. thanks. :)

  • the chart will give you the basic position, but the true note will land differently on the slide for every trombonist. try tuning your c to a keyboard or other instrument you know to be in tune, this will be much better than a tuner in the long run.

  • Thank you very much for your help. this explanation really helps. : )

    rafi

  • Are you 6th grader or a multi-instrumental?

  • try buzzing a C note on the mouthpiece only. When you've mastered this play it in the trombone in 3rd pso and t should be better

  • Check the tuning slide. You should go buy a chromatic tuner from the music store, then play the note and adjust your embouchure and the tuning slide until the note is in tune.

  • try tuning the instrument first, tune the note Bb (first position)

  • trombones are awesume =] im practicing my solos on mine xD

  • 53215321 are posions :-)

  • Comment removed

  • sorry is there someone that can tell me what are the positions, please please please?i don't understand nothing in this vid

  • Slide positions, is the position of the slide that helps tune and play different notes. 1st position is at the mouthpiece. 2nd is about an inch from the mouthpiece. 3rd is about where the slide handle is about an inch before the bell. 4th is an inch past the bell. 5th is 4 inches past the bell. 6th is 7 inches and 7th is 8 inches

  • Actually, it depends on the trombone... my and my teachers' trombone positions differ.

  • That is true, but this dude playin the trombone in the video is weird!

  • won't argue with that :) Hell, i played like that in 2nd grade... He should be playing the trombone if he doesn't know how.

  • I started playing last year and I am waaaay better than him!

  • you need a trigar trombone :)

  • TRIGAR TROMBONES ARE FUN!!!!!!!!!!

  • actually trigger trombones, are not ment for jazz and are ordinarily for beginners.

  • that statement is not entirely correct. trigger trombones are fine for 3rd trombone parts in big band music, as they tend to blend with the bass trombone better. jazz usually uses smaller bore horns for the brighter sound. most orchestral first and second trombone parts are played on professional model horns with an F-attachment (trigger). occasionally, pieces will call for a larger bore straight tenor or alto trombone.

  • beginners? Ha right. Coz that's why student bones don't have F attachments...plus there are pieces written for trom that have parts written for low D's and C's....

  • You clearly do not know what your talking about. Trigger trombones are not used by beginners because they have larger bores and require far more air to play with a good sound. When not using the trigger, it is exactly the same as the regular tenor trombone. Most jazz musicians use small bore trombones because they are smaller and easier to play high on, as well as offer a more jazz-like sound. However, they very well can be used for jazz, for instance, Fred Wesley uses one.

  • are you dumb?

haha wow learn some stuff about trombone befor you go and start talking about it = ]

  • Hey!

Have you seen the "Kutiman Mash Up?"

Kutiman - 01 - Mother of All Funk Chords

    /watch?v=AzZi-btc8AA

I just submitted the video to

NOT JUST ANOTHER CABLE NEWS SHOW AT CNN(DOT)COM/HLN

I think you're about to be FAMOUS my friend!!!

    *GRIN*

  • I get it. your a trumpet player who thinks he can teach trombone better than trombone players can. or are just as uninformed on trumpet.

ps. try and not look at the she scale chart when trying to appear good at playing scales.

  • your tone quality, especially in the lower partials really sucks. might i suggest some pedaltones? oh, you might not know what those are though. it doesnt sound liek you know anything about trombone. =/

  • If I played vibrato in a scale I'd get hit upside the head.

  • HOLY CRAP! Multiple notes in one position? Can this be possible!?

  • OMFG my head's exploding from the very idea!

  • Yeah, otherwise trombone range would be VERY limited.

  • Comment removed

  • @Graverobber2500 Yeah it totally is!! I don't even know why people liked this.. they obviously never played a brass instrument. It all depends on how tight you make your lips when you blow into the instrument!

  • @Graverobber2500 yes i know 3 ppl who can

  • What a load of BIGHEADS you critics are! Crack on mate I appreciated it!

  • i think this guys a trumpet player, not trombone.

  • the vibrato sounds silly when there is no resonance to back it up.

  • yea it does

  • I appreciate the effort, but next time at least try and be in tune. especialy if your tryin to teach someone

  • ...hope you don't mind I used one of your audios ... for a com.edy sketch ..

  • this is the worst lesson video for trombone I have ever seen. This guy probably doesn't even play this instrument.

  • @bassbonemexie ok who let the six year old make a youtube acount?

  • @frogcannon dont talk to your daddy that way.

  • @bassbonemexie hes horrible lol

  • @bassbonemexie

Yeah, too funny lol Anybody who plays the trombone can do that.

  • dude im 14 goin to 9th grade and im goin to be in jazz band and i have better tone quality and i dnt need a book to play c major scale but he's pretty good no offence guy

  • this guy has no right teaching anyone trombone. he needs lessons.

  • i have a better sound but he's pretty good.

    p.s. im 11 yrs old

  • This guy isn't very good.

    lmao

  • Dang. Now matter how hard I try, I can't get the same sound you produce. I've been playing for many years and I still get a fuzzy sound.

  • Maybe you need to take a look at your mouthpiece, and if need be, your embouchure. Find an actual trombone teacher to play for and get some advice. To the bloke playing, I think I should be the one giving you lessons. You shouldn't be teaching kids to play the trombone, you can barely play yourself.

  • Nice, just don't point the horn directly at your audience or microphone, it lets them hear all the little slide noises and things
