No this IS the 12" version of the song. It lasts 5 and a half minutes and matches my 12" single exactly including the solo ending. It is also the same version that appeared on the original UK release of Bite that I bought in 1983. The shortened version was the radio edit which appeared on the 7" single.
I am talking about the UK releases and not how they may have appeared in other countries.
This is not a 12'' version. Check Wikipedia about the 2004 expanded reissue of "Bite". "it included the single version of "Love to Stay" where originally an extended dance version of the track had appeared on the vinyl album". Actually the shortened version is far inferior, by eliminating the wonderful trumpet / guitar section at the end.
This is the 12" version of the single which I am lucky enough to own together with everything else they released being a fan from the very first play of Dead Pop Stars on John Peel in 1980.
This is a very under-rated record in my opinion and the whole Bite album is brilliantly produced and very classy. They were just coming of age when they split. A great shame but I am glad I was there through it all.
This whole album is absolutely marvelous. Absolutely, absolutely marvelous. Really great songs, a nice, nice voice, great musicians- each member of Altered Images knew how to put this all together. Every track, just brilliant. I can still remember all of the lyrics 25 years on ... (and, yes, I think St. Etienne are great too).
If you don't like this then you need your head examining.
@stepenwolf7 hi, ive only just seen your post. i can dig out the album and look in the the book at the credits for the song if you like. it might say whos on the trumpet.

Had this 12" version. Lost to a Green Beret buddy, who also fell in love with Clare. Always felt this was the band's best effort.
