  • é a tecnologia avançando de uma maneira muito rápida! agora só falta fazerem algo extremamente útil e barato para o nosso planeta e não para os bolsos dos fabricantes ;)

  • Looks like e-ink :/

  • I can see it now...the Apple iScroll, the Samsung Papyrus, and the Sony eVellum. Better patent those names now!

  • why it is black & wite

  • @anupamvipul233 your an idiot...

  • i can now imagine painting your tv onto the wall XD

  • Im no expert & i like the product k,however i think the depth of the screen is limiting the amount of Crystals (LCD or whatever medium they use these dayz) to throw an image on the screen, hance the poor resolution,...Also,...Does the Flexable Screen have a memory..Meaning...Well if you roll up a piece of paper or plastic and leave it that way then straighten it out the paper rolls itself back up again,..over time this will weakien whatever medium is used??? just a thought...;-P

  • Next step: 3D interactive porn

  • This video is old as F@k it was since late 2006...

    We are in 2010

  • It's true we won't see it in awhile. It's like HDTV. They had it in Japan in the 80's. It's only recently come into vogue in America.

  • baby steps

  • It's not OLED, it's e-paper, which doesn't emit their own light.

Imagine a piece of paper with a black & white changing and moving print on it.

Totally different technology then Sony's thin flexible OLED screen of some years ago.

  • haha sony made screen thin like this

  • We wont see it anytime soon.

Japans had this technology for years now and even they haven't released it.

I am imagining its just too expensive for mass marketing.

  • true but sony i think it was came out with some really thin stuff like that but is being released some time in 2010 or 2011

  • like a laptop then

  • lol

  • lo, I'd probably loose that so fast...

  • he made it seem as if the pixels use light from around them as well as a bit of their own so i wonder how good the picture would be in complete darkness.

  • It's probably OLED which emit their own light.

If not, then, I don't really know.

  • lol the actual title of this video is "e-paper", so i'm pretty sure it is e-paper!

  • It does. Without ambient light, it would be just like non-e-paper. Just a dark sheet.

It would be cool as wallpaper or window blinds. It's pretty much opaque when it's filled in, so you could adjust your windowblinds with the flick of a switch. It would be useful for all sorts of organizational purposes and labeling. Or heads-up displays. Would be great for billboards as well. Awesome stuff. Should really cut down on plastic/paper waste.I can't wait until it's more mainstream and cheap!!

  • I can see how much potential this must have and I completely agree with you GboCookies but the idea of even more advertising then I already have is a bit of a put off. I would love to see starry night across my wall but I could do without an eharmoney advert by my feet.

  • You know what I see people using this for? Wallpaper, in the late '30s. Be able to put up a picture anywhere in the house, by just pressing where you want it. No more monitors, just sit in front of a wall to watch a movie or play a game. Constant lava lamp blobs moving across room. Or Aurora Borealis. Or fishies. Someone's probably working on that right now.

  • Best idea ever.

  • Actually I think that this totally new technology of displaying information as we know it today will revolutionize the publishing industry in the next 5-10 years. Because it will be cheap, spend almost no energy (only when changing the picture, doesn't use any light's like CRT or LCD - it reflects like paper), will look and feel like paper (thin, high contrast rate and brightness). There just has to be work done in video and color support which will take some time. But I think it is great!

  • Very usefull when you are watching a porn movie and your wife is comming behind your back !

  • ahhh. god.

there gonna be wrapping advertisment bilboards around telephone poles now too. probably in the woods while your out hunting "buy hand warmers" ha this is gonna get old real quick.

  • ppl will get epaper cut!

  • Haha...Good one.

  • the all seeing eye is everywhere...

  • They say in the next 30-40 years E-Paper will be cheaper than normal paper. Search shift happens

  • good, that will be extremely environmentally friendly

  • How does E-PAPER work? Does it use lights to generate an image? Like tvs.

  • I think it's almost like an LCD display, but somehow they made it flexible.

  • cool, I hope they came out with the fabric laptop soon, at least the fabric screen won't hurt my eyes. :D

  • Do you often poke your eyes with your laptop screen?

  • not really. I just sensitive to light, I feel hurt if the screen too bright when the room is dark.

  • LOLLL .... i just found the image of poking one's eyes with a laptop hilarious... i'm weird i kno...

  • looks like the future of portable computing. foldable like a fabric and then unfold into possibly a touchscreen. + maybe no backlight > battery life

  • and theres already a battery that is as thin as a paper. made by nanotechnology

  • did any1 ask?

  • he said IF

  • The Future is NOW! LOL

  • No its too slow to play video. Look at the video when its changing the picture.

  • Yeah but this will improve over time. Look at the computer monitors. They were fat peices of junk a decade or two ago, and know look how thin and better quality they are!

  • sony makes something like this it's in color

  • The Sony version is made of OLED, it is flexible but not so much that it can be rolled up.

  • ok :?

  • well now this just goes to show how technloigy can be so far what whould the ancient greeks and egyptians said if we would show them this maby they would think its magic since every thing they wrote on was stone

  • well ofcourse it would this shit is revolutionary

  • If I were to start a small business that would be one item at the top of my list to get. It might cost a lot but with a good market strategy it might pay off in the long run.

  • That is so sweet. I'm guessing it is the new OLED Technology (Organic Light Emitting Display)

  • Looks more like e-paper, I believe they are different.

  • We could have 900 page books on one sheet of e-paper!

or movies that fold into our pockets, then unfold to watch with our friends!

but then of course we would also need small commputer things to play the movie, but even that could still be compressed to fit on your thumb!

    Pretty incredible!

  • It's almost like the electronic E newspaper in Back To The Future... remember?

It's kind of creepy and alienating to see sci-fi movie prop technology come to life so closely in resemblance.. Makes me feel that it wasn't just inspired from, but it was pre-planned / pre-designed several, several years in advance ~ and now being publicized.

  • good "science fiction" is all about correct theories. Besides, projects like e-ink need years of development

  • HAHA i just thought of Harry Potter newspaper, hehehe

  • the device at the end has a similar design to the communicator in Earth: Final Conflict...the shit we come up with these days is amazing

  • yep Earth: Final Conflict was shit alright

  • looks pretty dumb. show me something that someone is holding and folding while it's changing and I'd be wowed.

  • In theory the slow refresh would not matter when you read an ebook but when you want to find something and page through something as one often does you might get rather annoyed by this e-paper.

Plus I don't get why it's so pricey still.

  • if you want to just ``find something``ther's probly letters or numbers to find the page right away

  • sony's working on a full color version right now

  • wtf is that?

  • Yeah, it's really cool, but there are a new prototype with support for full animation. Imagine painting your walls with these :D, tv here, computer monitor there, change the color of the room whenever you want to etc.. :D

  • do you have a link to that prototye? thanks

  • I googled some, but i couldn't find it, but i read on some page and in some computer magazine that the new prototype supported full animation. If you google around some you'll probably find it :)

  • @gardiin you've seen that on the video of the Tokyo expo right ? I've seen it too, with one clik the guy changed the color of his room, add a wallpaper ect..

  • IE Entrepreneurship Course!

  • Yes, it's real. We learned about it in science class. >w<

  • Yes this is real I saw a prototype

  • This is just so great !

  • I saw this in the trailer of BF2142!

  • ok so is this thing real?cause if it is kicks ass so bad man

  • No he didn't!

  • lol you idiot.
