  • devastatooor tannnnkkk!

  • good music. good game.

  • I just noticed I still have this with the original box and floppy disks. I should really try to get it to work!

  • Few games beat this music. Only the first Dune game perhaps beats it.

  • Thank you for this awsome vid and memories...

  • Like the SoundBlaster music more.

  • Dune 2, a good game in general, Hardest with Ordos though!

  • i came here because on the picture i saw an elite soldier from HL2 with a minigun o.O

  • My friends and I would literally live for the weekends and play from Friday after school until Saturday night.....Harkonnen!!!!

  • deeeath haaand APPROACHING

  • Sometimes, if not every time, the music makes the game.. I mean, the graphics and story can be great, but when I think back on games i've played, it's usually the music I remember :)

  • This was *THE* computer game when i was a kid. I remember the first thing I did when my dad upgraded and gave me his 286 was play DUNE. even on a 286 with no sound card and only 1024kb of extended ram it was an awesome game!

  • yheee good old times ; d

  • 5:51 xD

  • 1:42 thumb up if u remember how cool that was on the old PCs and u know how dull it is now xD

  • 4:39 nice bass

  • Does anyone know how the graphics for this kind of games were made? Was it painted pixel by pixel or was some kind of 3D-modeling program used? Did Photoshop existed at the time?

  • I had a HELP demo of this :) only worked a few times tho, preferred Harkonnens myself. Worms pissed me off oh happy memories tho sound on pc at the time non existent 4 me :P

  • Construction. Complete.

  • the girls voice is sooooo funny and unpro. it's wicked.

  • Deviator and ornitopters annoying ,.useless and expensive units but i remember this from sega version i never play the pc version

  • I still think this is the Best strategy game. I don't like how complicated new games are.

  • This and Warcraft 2 were the first RTS games I played. I played Dune 2 in '96 though, but little did I know was that I played the first ever modern RTS game. =)

  • Dune forever! Excellent music, excellent gameplay.

  • It's amazing that when she says "Your battle for Dune begins...now....", you used to be, "OMG Yes. WOW"... but 20 years later you're kinda like ,"Meh.. yeah. whatever"

  • So, I... I used to... play the first RTS ever? And I ENJOYED IT!?? WTF? What happened to me?

  • man I loved this music back in those days.

  • The only thing missing is the credits music.

  • Frank Klepacki kicks ass to the moon!

  • Woooooow. I never heard the music like this. I only ever heard it on Soundblaster or Windows Midi.

  • the true pioneer of the RTS genre. this is practically the blueprint for EVERY single RTS game ever created since. Starcraft, Warcraft, WoW, Command and Conquer would not EVEN EXIST if it weren't for this game (well, maybe C&C being westwood). consider yourself educated kiddies.

  • My first game ever, awesome

  • Long live Westwood studios!

  • yeah, played it as well. EPIC and leading for future RTS!!!

  • What was this music played on? It's certainly not the horrible FM synthesis from the Adlibs and Soundblasters of the day, and it's definitely not the MT-32 I was fortunate enough to play on.... Did Dune II have a General MIDI option?

  • Comment removed

  • Construction complete.

  • Well, that is what I call Dune 2 music, it sounded exactly the same on my computer when I was young... I found many videos with music for Dune 2 that sounds slightly different and were not exactly what I was looking for. I also miss the PC speaker version there, but never mind :-)

  • i love u for this video thx much ;)

  • Old schoolers like me.

  • wasn´t it Dune 2: Battle for Arrakis? At least on the amiga version

  • The second song has been my mobile cellphone ringtone for a few years now.

    I need a new phone.

  • What is really fascinating about the games of old, that they were really HARD to beat.... (I doubt that today's average gamer kid would last to level 6 of this)

  • This game along with its music is just so fucking awesome.

  • man finished the game when was like 10 or sumthin sooo good sicks memories

  • The remake of this game (dune 2000) has all full true sound orchestral versions of these songs.

  • Ordos biatches!

  • this bring back the good old memory's...used to play this thing on my 286 ibm haha. First video game i have ever played

  • For house Harkonnen!

  • At 4:40 you can tell it is Frank Klepacki, the music become very command & conquer-esque

  • 8:00 i came in my pants

  • @4riel yeah, that's my absolute favorite track in the game, too bad its so short

  • I played this game when I was in the age of 2-3 years... Or rather my father controlled my hand, so we kind a played it together xD

But Great Game I must trully say!

    LONG LIVE THE FIGHTERS!

    XD

  • i was 8 when i played this game

  • I spend my childhood playing Dune2 and I'm proud of it =] awsome game!

  • Thanks for the memories!

  • Yup, the ancestor of real-time strategies. Klepacki makes some killer music.

  • Shumagorath (Positive context).

  • Oh my God this game was so great and might still be if I ever got a computer that's mine again. It was great even when I last had my laptop and running WoW, I'd log off WoW just to play Dune 2.

  • I'm searching this game for ages on the internet but none of the downloaded files I found work normal. where dit you find yours? thanks

  • I actually have a CD of the game from long back.

  • Reporting! Affirmative! Reporting! Acknowledged! Reporting! Affirmative! Reporting! Acknowledged! (before group selection was an option lol)

  • YEAH! I remember that! :S (sweet childhood memory... :D)

  • We had the computer in the living room. This game drove my mother absolutely crazy.

  • @richie8811 Yeah...:D And thanks to that, you had to mind EVERY single unit... you couldnt win w/o precise strategies...

  • @richie8811

Sh'yeah. This was the day when micro was fucking MICRO, man. x)

  • @richie8811 there was a "follow" option, so you could create a group, virtually. still, it was very laggy and worked 60% of the time

  • ha 1:20 looks like a star wars knock off

  • @thegelatinousavenger star wars was a dune knockoff

  • The PC Speaker music to this game was by far superior to the 16bit songs. I cant find them ANYWHERE online. If someone knows how to get them, at least the game intro with PC speaker mode, let me know! thx

  • search for "Dune 2 mp3" here... someone posted the individual tracks on youtube and they seem to be the original PC music tracks.

  • Does anyone know where to get the real midis from this game? My version isn't midi

  • umm to the people who claim this to be the first RTS game: there are actually a number of much older games that meet all the criteria for being labeled a RTS. One I can really recommend to people is called The Ancient Art of War. Thing is, those games just looked much more primitive. But theyre pretty advanced game mechanics wise, compared to games that came much later, including Dune II.

  • If Dune 2 would have been multiplayer like Warcraft 2 it would have really killed blizzard as a company.

War2 was a great RTS but the critical thing about it was that it was the FIRST multiplayer RTS ever.

  • Dune 2 made for Amiga, Warcraft: Orcs and Humans made for PC...as i know for amiga there never made any Multiplayer game...only cooperative games on one machine.

  • @Pszichopark

    1. Playing on one machine doesn'nt really mean that a game has to be cooperative only. oO

    2. There actually were some games capable of network play for the Amiga such as Populous 2.

Btw: The Amiga version of Dune 2 was just a port. Originally Dune 2 was a PC game.

  • You realize that the original Command & Conquer also had multiplayer, and came out a few months before War2 did, right?

  • the gameplay here didn't use hot keys. but you can actually use hotkeys. like A for attack M, move. etc

  • The tune at 08:01 ... Was my favorite track while playing .. Oh man , brings back some memories.

  • Oh woot that one really is the best. =D

  • I played it on my Amiga 500 back then, only it had different music, with a special climax and no percussion at all, anyone know what I'm talking about? GREAT game BTW!

  • the real time strategy was ultra slow, but this game rox

  • the world first RTS right?

  • First one as we know them today.

Check out Techno softs Herzog(Msx i think) and Herzog Swei(genesis) Those were before but they dont work exactly the same as what this game set the standerd for.

  • As ZT mentioned, some might argue that some games like Herzog Zwei attempted the concept prior to Dune II, but this game undoubtedly set the template upon which almost every RTS game afterward would be based on.

I still remember playing this for the first time on my 486 DX4 100 and being completely, utterly blown away. Played the game for like 18 hours straight.

"Dune, the building of a dynasty..." is a speech clip that is filled with great memories for a lot of old-schoolers.

  • @garudoh

Second that, chills running down my spine every time I hear it. :)

  • @garudoh

It was running on my 286 12 mhz. wonderfull game !!!

  • @garudoh

    Herzog Zwei ruled. Nicely done

  • @garudoh

fark 486 dx4 is kick ass

    i had a 386 when i had this!

    oh yeah man best memories

it was like being a kid on acid playing this it blew my mind away!!

  • @garudoh i also had 486 DX4 100Mhz and dune was my first game that i really loved, remember that first 2 months of playing i didn't know that i could build some structures and such a game style was very difficult :-) and when i by a coincidence built tile i was very excited.

  • @duchghost

I played the game the first time on my 286... it wasnt running on 386 instructions. so it was playable in a 286.. great game.

  • @garudoh man i am from greece and i am 25 years old

so 16 yearrs before i was going to a friend of mine that had a 4 86 computer

and we were playing dune 2 and also other amazing games..my 2 86 wasnt capable enough to play dune 2 so i was going to my friend's..from then i played all dune games i saw dune movie and ive read all the books of course and i am a huge fan of sci fiction and also I HAVE DUNE TATOO... i have to admit that music from frank klepacki did all this to me :P at begining

  • @garudoh

Dune II -> Westwood -> CnC

    NEVER FORGET YOUR ORIGINS! :D

    (and EA shall burn)

  • @ericcarlsson

Technically speaking, I would say Herzog Zwei was the first modern RTS, but it was not very influential (no one knew about it); Dune 2 was far more influential.

  • @D313370r IIRC dune 2 creators themself admited they got inspiration from Herzog Zwei :)

  • @CEITCOGIDO

Really? I never heard that before, I guess Herzog Zwei really did set RTS into motion!

Not that this takes anything away from Dune 2, they were both incredible games.

  • @ericcarlsson the world best RTS :)

  • @ericcarlsson No! but close! ;)

  • @ericcarlsson

Yes. The first commercially released RTS.

  • @ericcarlsson No there were many more before it. But one of the first in the command and conquer style yea.

  • First game I played on the PC, back in 93, simply a classic, the gameplay was fantastic, remember having memory problems getting the sound to play on my Gateway 486 dx33 :)

  • Go Frank!

  • this game is what started C&C!!

  • I think, looking at the art of the units and story it still is the best.

  • The first Real Time Strategy I ever played, and on Megadrive (Genesis)... absolute revolutionary. Excellent game!

  • another nostalgic favorite of mine

  • yepp sounds like DOS to me :)

  • FINALLY some high quality Dune 2 PC intro without any narrator voices in background! ;) Thanks!

  • Remake this game! Re-release and remix these tracks!

  • dune 2000 was the remake

  • and the tracks were remixed

  • harkonnen ending music was awesome

  • i played it on genesis,it sounded rawwer with the synth guitars.cool game.

  • This game had great music.

  • Too bad it didn't have multiplayer or custom maps.

  • Too bad it came out in 1992 when people could buy a 9600 baud modem for $300

  • what about IPX

  • The Battle for Dune begins...

    NOW.

    jejeje totally awesome game!

  • Dune is the shi* man i F in love that game its so damn fun
