I have always wondered, why didn't Aragorn just tell the undead people to attack Mordor in the first place!?!? wipe out mordor and they'd already have won the war..
@Haarissssssssss in the books the undead only helped him take the ships, then the southern army of gondor helped him win at the pelennor fields. I'm pretty sure they only owed him one battle or something like that.
I've never seen it! I'm so pissed i missed it in theaters. I've been wanting to watch it but I'm waiting for it on Blu ray to get the best possible home experience of it. But I'm gonna follow all the LOTR nerds' advice and wait for the extended cuts just to make sure i don't miss out.
This movie looks fucking good. I didn't even allow myself to watch this whole video in fear of spoiling anything for myself.
@shakimaro you will loved i am sure if you like mystery movies you will put on you will put it on your top 5.if you watch the extended version you will loved more and the deleted scenes they deleted because they could not it was over the limits not because the scenes was not good. They done a very fucking good work if you watch the behind the scenes you will suprised how hard they worked.
@suchmuch96 i think two towers gets a 9 for me because of the treebeard scenes....as a lotr fan, i love them....but as a moviegoer they are really boring and out of place kina
@jdoghockey19 yeh , i can easily see how people would thing that they are boring, but hey, some of the greatist films of all time are boring; look at the godfather :P
@suchmuch96 haha you got a point there....no doubt they LOTR is the best trilogy of all time, star wars would tie it, but ewoks are fucking retarded :)
It takes an extremely good movie for me to be able to watch them many times since they ended 7 years ago and i still be able to say it is my favorite movie series ever
I was too young to watch these movies when they were released. But now with the new Blu Ray versions being released soon, I will watch this epic masterpiece.
I think I was about 11, or 12 when the first came out. And back then I was a hyperactive kid who could barely sit still for a regular 1 hour 30 minute movie.
@chrysta77 Ian McKellen will (obviously) play Gandalf but unforutately not play Bilbo although there is word he will for the sake of contiuity. Elijah wood and others will play cameos but ones one will not notice.
@tbmuex Assuming that you meant Ian Holm playing Bilbo.
I don't see how this could be possible though. Bilbo was a youngster of a hobbit when he left the shire in the Hobbit, and Ian Holm is now 89 years old. They had to do some horrible skin stretching to Ian to make him look a bit more believable as a middle-aged hobbit for a small number of scenes, and that was 10 years ago. Ian is a great actor, but he cannot convincingly play a young man on what will be a very physically challenging role.
@ianwestc check out X-men 3 they did some digital imaging to make prof X and magneto look young, so they could use Ian Holm still, but I heard that jackson is planning to just use him as the narrator of whole movie.

Twin Towers? and so many other things that can or cannot point to things that are relevant today. Just food for thought.
this is should really be how fantasy movie are made from novels lord of the rings is and still one of the greatest cinematic film of all time u will still remember this movie even after 100 years later i bet
@VladimirVLD I've read the books and you're right. They definitely changed some things, but mostly things that had to be changed or compressed I think. For example: introducing the character Beregond is unnecessary in the film but in the book it's fine. Film and books = different media. Book = delve deeper into detail and such. Film = Has to be constantly exciting, right pacing is essential. I know I'm spelling things out but, yeah, that's about it :) I still absolutely love the films, though.
@colliric Really? If they would've made a 100% true adaptation then I wouldn't mind Bombadil but in all honesty he is a bit silly. Funny, but still very silly. Ah, I love the books and the movies, as well, just not always (but often) for the exact same reasons, I think. Still, pretty much anything set in Tolkien's Middle-earth is great :) Would be cool to see an adaptation of The Children of Húrin, though I doubt the studios would want to invest millions in a lesser known and depressing work.
That section of the book forshadows the darker adventures ahead. I missed the part on the Barrow-downs where Bombadil saves them. It really sets the tone for the adventure to come by bringing a sort of spiritualism into the story. Sauron's forces are closing spiritually in, even on Hobbiton. It's the part in the book when the gravitas of the journey ahead really hits Frodo and his company.
Its the first time they realize their lives are at stake.

@colliric Come to think of it but what exactly is the barrow wight? I mean it isn't explained in the book what it 'is'. Wikipedia lists it as a wraith like spirit/creature. But I understand why that part was omitted, you already have the Nazgul so perhaps having the barrow wight was a bit distracting seeing as you already have Sauron's favorites hunting Frodo, in the first place.
They are more reminiscent of the dementors of Harry Potter... they suck the life out of you...
They are like the Nazgul's "soldiers" and the anti-thesis of the "spiritual soldiers" that help Aragon in Return of the King. That they, and the powerful and Good Bombadil, lie right in the homeland of the Hobbits, shows the Hobbits the fact that Hobbiton lies right in the heartland of Sauron's dominion, while Bombadil is protecting Hobbiton, being a powerful being of light.
@colliric Alright, well I guess I can't argue against what you said it was the first time for Frodo and Co. that they realise the danger they're really in. BTW have you seen Peter Jackson's The Hobbit video update on Facebook? I got really nostalgic and all seeing it! It shows some of the cast, part of Rivendell, some props, possible goblin stuff and more.
Without a doubt. Unfortunately, as with all great successful films, there always seems to be a knee-jerk reaction against them years afterward, often by the very people who proclaimed how awesome they were when they first came out. "Lord of the Rings is only good 'cos of the battles and the special effects," so the argument goes. Last Christmas I watched Stardust (for the 5th time) with my family. My mum thought THAT was a better film than Lord of the Rings. Yeah, right.
Finished watching the trilogy yesterday.
What a masterpiece.
