Do you ever try to derive all the harmony from a modal penatonic. Limiting to yourself to the 3 note chords (in D-Dorian because i can do it in my head) - DFB, EAD, FBE, ADF, BEA etc?
@MichaelnChristine Yeah...I practice taking scales apart and then re ordering the intervals and taking the arpeggios of the scale and superimposing them etc.
@MichaelnChristine Both...everything that naturally develops...but always really just trying to get the Rhythm going....thats the most difficult thing...
@flatpicking I find melody really challenging with modal music. I tend to get into kind of a raga or even gamelan mind set. There is something about repetitive patterns with rhythmic variation that fits with modal pentatonic ideas. Longer, melodious ideas just...don't jive. Ya know? Or at least I have trouble getting there.
Congratulations man.. Can U give me some explanation what you use to support your idea about 4ths? How can I use it effectively? I'd to be aware what I'm doing in the moment the improvisation... It means, Are there rules to apply the 4ths or U just fell it?
@caiomusic Hi.. I am playing 4ths in the bass using C dorian Mode [or Bb scale starting on C] These triads in scale order are..CFBb DGC EbAD FBbEb GCF ADG BbEbA I am also using Cm Fm and Gm..Pentatonics and arpeggios related to the scale e,g Gm7 Cm7 Etc....I hope this helps...
I play piano and keyboard...but i feel incomplete...I don't know from where my music come from...and I don't know if is possible call that music, this probably because I didn't studied very well in the past...I'd like to discover new possibility to improvise, new melodies...but I think is possible just studiyng seriously ! If u want can u see my videos and tell me what I need ! (If your answer will be "Stop with the music"no problem :)" Bye !!!
Thanks. The Dorian mode has the notes of the major scale starting from its 2nd degree. eg, D dorian=the scale of C starting on its 2nd note of D... or C Dorian =a scale of Bb staring on the note C etc. Actually it sounds more complex in words but is quite simple really..I am using 4ths harmony here and just trying ideas out...I hope this helps,
Is Dorian mode just every white key?

@flatpicking Do you only approach it from a counter point perspective. Or are you also thinking in blocked chords?
