  • I first found this recording of Mary's in the USA in the early '70's. Mary O'Hara is one of my favorite singers and this is one of the many great songs she has recorded.

  • Southside Nuair a bhi me og, when I was young Carraig Doon was a favourite at many a Feis. A lovely song written by Cork-man Dinny Lane around 1850.

  • jcriedijk, that 27 was a long time ago, I have told You Tube to correct their mistake, I was born in 1938, reversing those figures would be closer to my age.

I have seen Mary O`Hara in concert many years ago, I particulary like her singing in Irish,

    thanks for your comment.

  • HelloOliver, you are 27,which is unfortunately too young to have seen Mary performing! She had an incredable breath controll. Her first recording of The Quiet Land of Erin was such an example. Her voice was pure and clear, her style was unique, her personality and knowledge of music was impressive.Thank God I saw her performing and even met her in the UK in 1982,but bought her 1st record in'64 Also in my country/Holland she was very famous!Mary is a true Legend during her life

    Mary,God bless!

  • Thanks Penny.

  • Very moving! 5*****

  • Not only the English, France was at war with most of Europe at the time.

  • A girl laments for her lover who has gone to France to fight the English. Beautifully sung by Mary.
