Mr. Zimmerman, in almost 100 comments and over 200,000 views, I swear to God you are the only one to use the phrase "Good clean fun" in regards to this video.
I still watch Red's movies everytime TCM shows them. My family watched him every week, along with Sid Casear & Milton Berle. Later it was Carol Burnett & Friends. Oh, don't forget Abbott & Costello. I've made tapes of their movies for my 4yr old granddaughter for when she's older, in case, they are not available anymore. Good, clean fun!!! We need more of it!!!!
I saw this clip about 20 years ago. I wonder if Skeleton's ad lib ever got him in "hot water" with his sponsor. Pet Milk sponsored the show at that time, and one of their main products was Pet Ritz Pies.
Something great about these classic comics that nobody has said yet, they open up so much to you on the screen that you actually feel like you know them. Today's Hollywood, I feel so distant. Miles away from the people. But these people, they seem like ordinary people just making the world laugh. Like every episode you get a little bit of friendship. Or at least it seems this way to me; as cheesey as it sounds or not. Skelton is a classic. He will live on forever in his shows, and in our hearts.
I know if I were in that situation on live TV I would have no idea what to say. It's a real tribute to Red that he was able to save the moment and make it funny.
@SIMPFANN Look at Red carefully-you can tell he had a line all ready, but even better, he knew to wait for the right moment to say it. It's still funny every time and always will be.
Nice recovery at :46. I love Red. I was to young to remember him on tv, but have a full dvd collection. Anytime I'm feeling down, I can always pop in one and within the first few minutes I'm smiling again....
I loved watching Red Skelton and Benny Hill; I wish they still made comedy's like that anymore, now it's like you don't need to be funny to do comedy. "It's sad really" :(
They just DON'T make TV like they used to..only the great comics of old could take an unexpected 'movement' and turn it into a classic!! LOVED Red Skelton and all the characters he portrayed-there will never be another one!
@ladynfsoffice today they just yell "cut!" and make it perfect... live TV ruled! oh for the days of my grandparents - when people were neighbours, neighbours were friends, and friends were... well, Friends!
When you saw someone's fence was down, you stopped and fixed it. When their porch door was open, you closed it... and when you had a little xtra... you shared it - you didn't charge for it. sigh...
@ladynfsoffice I too will miss Red Skelton. It was the comedians of his day that made watching tv worthy. Today they think they HAVE to curse just to get the laughs for shock value. My opinion, its all unnecessary. Amen!
Red Skelton is the epitome of comedy!! Good, clean, funny!!! There will never be another like him...He was teh best....I remember him from days as a little girl...couldn't wait to see his show....God Bless Red's family and his memory!!! THis is comedy and how it should be...Alas, it will neve be again, sad to say...Todays comics have NOTHING on this man!!! Nothing!!! Thanks for sharing that video....
Ezekiel 46:2: And the prince shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate without, and shall stand by the post of the gate, and the priests shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, and he shall worship at the threshold of the gate: then he shall go forth; but the gate shall not be shut until the evening.
Read the Bible. It is God's Word. There is salvation in only One: Christ (Acts 4:12). Wait on Him for salvation. He saves those whom He wishes to.
These were the good old days. I do my best to keep his memory alive by performing 4 nights a week 9pm at the Royal Resort Hotel 99 Convention Center Drive in Las Vegas.
I would like to invite everyone to check out the ONLY show in Las Vegas with a Red Skelton impersonator.
But I don't. About what I've read of your comments. And I have a sense of humor beyond compare. But it has its limitations. Known as graciousness and common sense.
And simple respect and humility.
Words beyond your limited lexicon, I suppose.
And by the way, I'm not knocking Chaplin. I remember the night he came back to Hollywood in 1971.
But you obviously don't. Because you weren't there. And if you were, then prove it.
How could I possibly do that with you just saying that I'm wrong? I would say Dangerfield or Seinfeld or Will Farrell or Ellen or many other sketch actors from SNL or MadTV but you'll tell me Charlie Chaplin waddling around with a cane making ironic mistakes is so much more amusing.
Why would you flip out like that? I know, because you have no valid points. The Model T was a legendary car and should be remembered, but it doesn't mean it's a good car anymore. I respect pioneers, but there replaced by more talented people who have learned from those who came before them.

Never thought he was funny. Still don't. Can't stand the sight of the guy. Humor is such a personal thing. This guy so lacks subtlety. Benny-type wry and dry is surely my preference.
Did you all know that in 'real life'; Red had always made the BEST of a bad situation. There is a story behind that statement I had heard on 'Paul Harvy's Rest of the Story' about Red. Very touching Too.
I loved this man so much. He could do a skit that had you rolling on the floor. then another that brought a tear to you eye. A sweet man and a comic genius.
" Guzzlers Gin" one of the best skits in the world *LOL*
Red Skelton is my great uncle! I didnt know him but my grandparent did! My last name is Skelton too so yeah. I am pretty funny my self so mabey i get it from him!
I remeber the shows he had. My grandparents didn't have a television at their home and Grandpa was a preacher. They came over about every Tuesday night to get a gallon of milk from us and, ahem, it seemed to be during Red Skelton time. lol. They always laughed, too.
Red Skelton made me laugh as a kid! I think his expressions did it. True talent, great timing, ad-lib (so funny-not done today), real down to earth person. Amazing what kids can detect. Something real.

She's such a pretty Jersey cow. And so well behaved - she's obviously a pet. Cows live 5-10 years so she's been dead for many years. It's interesting how small she is - today Jerseys are much larger due to good food and breeding. We have some that are over 5.5 feet at the shoulder. A farmer from Ohio.
Who today among modern comics is as smart and as funny and as fast to ad lib in an embarrassing situation as was Red Skelton? Of course, so little live television exists anymore that the modern comics have to ad lib. "Get it out of your system." Thanx for posting a classic moment from a great comic.
I worked at a Wendy's Hamburgers my senior year in high school and he came threw our store. I got his autograph in 1985, Sad to say it dissappered when my Mom and Dad moved to a new home. What a nice man and he was tickled that some one young as me new who he was. He hit it right on the head with this one. Be careful of the Michael Newdow's of this country or we will lose our way.
@MPur1021240 One of my best friend's worked part time in high school in a Western-wear Store in Texas, and Red Skelton came in the store one day and purchased about $150 in merchandise. He did a comical routine with the boots he bought and shook hands with all the employees. That man was one of the most honesly human performers that ever lived.
Absolutely. Freaking. Brilliant. 'nuff said. : P
