No veil and no special equipment. I was dressed in regular clothes. Research I had done showed that bee hives that are swarming aren't aggressive at all since they don't have a home to protect. I was just very careful not to accidentally step on one or injure one in case it might trigger a defense response.

Yes, they did. The next day there were a few hapless bees buzzing around but the hive was busy as, well, a bee hive.
