Does anyone else find it strange that when he mentioned South Carolina as the first state to secede, he gets enthusiastic cheers? That act of secession led to the civil war and thousands of deaths, so that the institution of slavery might continue. Can you imagine what the world would be like if the Confederacy had won that war, and slavery was still practiced legally today, in 2008? If I lived in S.C., I would be ashamed of that part of my state's history, and it disturbs me that they aren't.

Their pride is that of independence, that they could make it on their own. Also, why would those people be ashamed when none of them were alive during the civil war. Its like trying to collect reparations from current white americans. Nobody alive today is responsible for slavery. Nobody alive is responsible for the civil war.
