DUDE! I was there when he gave this speech! Right behind him. You could'a seen me- if he, the podium, and the other dude weren't in the way!!! XDDDDDDDD
he was on a talk show and he said that the colbert report character he portrays is cathartic for him. It is that whole humor at serious issues, because if not we would just be depressed everyday if we took it seriously
He'd be the most well spoken, most educated, politician ever. I hope he runs for president at the next election and I hope his candidacy is taken seriously.
If he gets elected president, it will mean the end of the world. Remember what Nostradamus predicted. "And a manath nameth Berticus will claim the will of the innocent, to create a new order. The endth will cometh on the first moon of that new day.
Does anyone else find it strange that when he mentioned South Carolina as the first state to secede, he gets enthusiastic cheers? That act of secession led to the civil war and thousands of deaths, so that the institution of slavery might continue. Can you imagine what the world would be like if the Confederacy had won that war, and slavery was still practiced legally today, in 2008? If I lived in S.C., I would be ashamed of that part of my state's history, and it disturbs me that they aren't.
Their pride is that of independence, that they could make it on their own. Also, why would those people be ashamed when none of them were alive during the civil war. Its like trying to collect reparations from current white americans. Nobody alive today is responsible for slavery. Nobody alive is responsible for the civil war. Though we can still take pride in the same ideals that were fought for. And no im no from SC.
As the other guy says.. yes the whole thing was just a bit of a joke.
And I am from SC and from my point of view they arent cheering for slavery and death.. its a bit of pride in saying "we dont like being pushed around and being told what to do"
No, I didn't find it strange. And I don't imagine the world if the Confederacy had won, because it was never met to be. And I'm speaking from a family with a long legacy in the South.

No, there's nothing wrong with him. The man plays a character that mocks Republicans. That's not even what's wrong - it's that he mocks politics and makes a joke (hell, a career) out of the subject. Would you really want Harrison Ford to run the country because he portrayed the president in Air Force One?
If I were registered democrat I would vote Colbert, but I just switched from independent to republican just for Ron Paul. Bring back the troops now! Stephen Colbert for Vice Prez!
Seriously though he said in the Larry King interview that he would consider governor in South Carolina before seriously attempting the White House, or something like that. That would be awesome.

Oh, Thank GOD! My niece, who teaches at USC, gave me GAME COCK earrings....and now when I wear them...people might know what they mean!!! AND...just to set the record straight. He's a graduat of Northwestern University. Hence, a good midweatern boy....
So sad but so true. I agree though, Colbert would be a truly great President. The man actually knows what he's talking about - and isn't afraid to say it; and thus, I expect he'd actually be willing to do something about all the problems we're facing.
The only one actually running close to that imho, is Kucinich; and I doubt he has a chance.
NATION, it looks like we have 2 potential saviors of America now ;)

Either way slavery would have been abolished; just look at England.

"Its like trying to collect reparations from current white americans."
There is, its called affirmative action. :(
