  • Wow there are alot of epi haters here. I think the epi sounded closer to the afd Gibson. And that vos sounded muddy as all hell.

  • the epiphone sounds like crap

  • the epi sound like complete bs and the slash sounds fantastic (wich i have) and the 59 (i want) is awsome but thwe difrence between the two are really only the capcators and the way the wood breaths because the sd are based off the pafs really thats why derrig put them or maybey it was slash him self put them in is because they didnt have the money for the pafs and the guitars it self is the same.

  • that 59 reissue sounds nice and thick, the afd sounds crunchier and the epiphone sounds like shit

  • VOS had a much more brighter sound and overall sounds better. Epiphone on clean sounded like absolute garbage i'm sure if you where to change the pick ups it would sound a little better but the VOS will have my vote unless you want the slash tone which sounds a little better with the signature guitar.

  • The BOS sounds better, what amp are you playing through?

  • My bad, VOS

  • price??? looking for the price of this beauty for years now!

  • @LiveMinecrafting $9'174 for the VOS and $12'468 for the Aged

  • the epi was garbage

  • in the rock overdrive test the epiphone had more of a cool ehh/erghhh sound to it which is awesome

  • the slash model sounds a litte brigheter...

  • why did you get that guitar???

  • Epi sound like a toy

  • I prefer the NOS Gibson. It clearly sounds best to me. More low end, more compressed somehow.

  • @Ande5865 NOS? VOS! Vintage Original Spec and by the way the afd showed here is the USA model not the VOS one

  • @nochix96isnuts I see the mistake, yes. But still, as I said, the VOS sounds way better than the AFD-guitar.

  • @Ande5865 I completely agree with you (am not a crazy Splash fan) that "ÄFD" les paul is basically a standard with a cool finish and the "slash"headstock

  • @nochix96isnuts Slash Duncan Pick up i find better than Burstbuckers. But its not as sweet as the 57 classic

  • What amp is he using?

  • The only real difference between the 2 Gibsons are the pickups the Slash one sounds the best because it has Seymour Duncans, Burstbuckers sound like shit, 57 classics and P-90s are the only good choices if you want Gibson pickups in my opinion.

  • i think the 59 reissue sounds better and im a guns n roses fanatic!

  • i think the epi sounds much thicker, has more low end which is sorta what slash has, with a fair amount of treble over on top of it, in some vids comparing the afd gibson to afd epi, i think the epi sounds closer as the pickups dnt sound as hot as the gibsons, the gibson sounds too fuzzy and muddy compared to the slash epi

  • i didnt like the epiphone sound :(

  • the epiphone sounds HHHHHHORRRRRIBLE

  • @TheThepurplebird I think thats a bit harsh...it is designed to be of a lower price so you cant really imagine that is sounds like the 59 or the slash sign. and even with that said i still think it sounds pretty good! it just had less output, because the pickups arent in the same class as that of the gibsons..

but horrible?? noooo never, it sounds awesome! you can hear the tone in there..it just needs some more juice!

  • @jeudhas your right that looks mean i meant compared to two american made 10,000 les pauls

  • @TheThepurplebird You're just listening with your eyes.

  • @Nickpatient COMPARED TO THE TWO HIGHER END GUITARS. it has less articulation, is less round, and the pickups arent as high output

  • @TheThepurplebird Yeah, that's true but saying that it sound "HHHHHHORRRRRIBLE" is a bit over the top man. :) You wouldn't notice the sound difference if it was in a band situation.

  • @Nickpatient sorry excuse me

  • the gibson 59' vos sounded better to than the appetite does

  • what amp u guys use?

  • Does the slash appetite have a nice clean sound also or does it just play distortion really well?

  • The 59 is my fave. I think the Epiphone sounds awesome, but the pick-ups are too low output, it's an unfair test, the Epi had Alnico magnets (standard pick-ups for all Epi Les Paul standards) so yea.

  • @JEUXolim

uuh, the slash and the 59 also had alnico pickups. you clearly have no idea what youre talking about.

PS. it is a fair test, because all 3 guitars used the same amp. the test was to compare variables in the guitars (all other things remaning the same)

  • @jimamundo Yes, you're right. I didn't phrase my comment correctly, I apologize. I said what I said because the Epi had Epiphone Alnico magnets whilst the Gibson slash model had Gibson's Alnico open tops which according to many reviewers, they have more treble, but you're right it is a fair test.

  • @JEUXolim Also, the Slash has Alnico 2 and the Epi has Alnico 5 or something..

  • Bottom line is, none of these are bad guitars. Sure, the Gibsons sound better, but you would have to be pretty much retarded to suggest that they sound £2000 better. Unless you're a touring musician, or you have ego issues, buy a fucking Epiphone. I have one, and if you know what you're doing as far as set up goes, stick some better pick ups in there and you would be pretty hard pressed to hear the tonal difference between an Epi and a Gibson unless you're purposely looking for differences.

  • The output of the Epiphone pickups are too high, that's why it sounds like shit compared to the Gibsons. I liked the VOS the most!

  • beautiful guitar...

    but sounds like shit!!!

  • @yuricriss

Sounds like shit? It sounds almost the same as the VOS..

    What guitar are you playing?

  • Comment removed

  • VOS owens the slash. and the epiphone just hasnt got the punch a guitar should have. i have an epiphone sg, and in my opinion, it gives a much better tone than the epiphone les paul.

but anyway, fender all the way.

  • I stay with the VOS over the Slash and the Epiphone really sucks for the price, you can get a way better guitar for that money.

  • @pipecfh I have to agree, the VOS does sound the best Clean and Distorted. But basically this is just a test of different pickups. I own both a gibson and a epiphone les paul. My epiphone is a 60's tribute which has 57 classic pups and is easily on par punch wise with my gibson traditional pro.

  • this guy should let chappers do the demo, there is one already

  • have to say none of them sound bad but tbh i would struggle to see were 5000 goes on the slash guitar over the other 2

  • Excellent review!!! The '59 VOS sounded the best with the most clarity and widest frequency response. The Epiphone sounded the dullest in comparison but still sounded really good! They all sound GREAT to me. Of course, I've never met a Les Paul I didn't like : )

  • after this, i went directly to my guitar and tried to learn that second riff haha

  • I loaded an epi with slash signature alnico's and i was REALLY impressed. I also own an 89 standard with the HBR pickup set, and the epi really holds its own.

  • what's amp do you use?

  • this is what gear demo should be like. some videos go on about the specs and etc. honestly we all know how to read. great demo!

  • @ladsinblue I agree. Back to back, right away - only way to compare!!!

  • gif me nao?

  • he looks alike David Gilmour a bit....an he plays well

  • les pauls are such beautiful instruments....

  • epiphone sounds a bit low to me.....still all 3 very good guitars.

  • I love people saying that the epiphone is shit. If there was no audio, and no comparison... and you were told that the epiphone being played is a gibson, you would ALL believe it. Fact. This is just a good advert for epiphone... sure the gibsons sound a little better, but not £2000 better.

  • @motley0crue12 Not true, they have distinctly different tones.

  • i hate metal tuners, i like this jellow/creme tuners

  • @jutup110 I like tulip style too!

  • The slash and the Vos are very similar, the slash being a bit brighter. The epiphone is shit in comparison

  • Appetite Les Paul and the 1959 Les Paul sound close but Appetite sounds more GnR-ish than the 1959.. But the Appetite Les Paul was based on the Les Paul which Slash used to record the album and that Les Paul was a copy of the 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard so there are the similarities..

  • The VOS has so much clarity and character; the appetite, just too much base for me but probably blends with the mix better?

  • Great video

  • epiphone finish???

  • the second thing he's playing, is it a song or just something he's playing?

  • @guitarlordification it's kind of his version of paradise city by guns n roses

  • @BoneyardShadow no i meant when he's got what he calls "the bluesy overdrive"

  • i love how he doesn't play gnr riffs the exact way they played them

  • @guitarlordification I think it's for legal reasons

  • @1LetThereBeRock1 yes, its so that no one can put a copyright case against him :D

  • @1LetThereBeRock1 hes not making money off of this video, so its not legal reasons.

  • wen it comes to distortion, slash's guitar wins all

  • you dont know how to play a gnr song!!!!

  • Well Paradise But Cannot Fine It on the sheet probably because I dont know the chords,,,,still new at this

  • what is that last riff?? cant place it for some reason,,,,hmmmmm

  • @bill99959 Paradise City

  • hen you can play man there is nothing like having the real thing in your hand,,,,worth waiting for ,,,save your money for the real thing and leave the mickey mouse stuff to well,,,,,mickey mouse !!!!

  • I think he's playin the the paradise city riff wrong

  • @TheCSD123 It´s not worng is just his way.

  • @TheCSD123 he is playing the riff from the breakdonw section of the song, its slightly different from the riff

  • @TheCSD123

hes probabbly playing the song slightly different but still reconizable so he wont have any copyright issues

  • @itsmark101

Makes sense. I saw a demo of the sunburst Epiphone Slash, and not a single GnR lick was played.

Who cares if he's doing it "wrong" though? The point of demos like this is to hear how the guitar sounds. Would have liked to hear all 3 pickup positions and some lead stuff though in this vid though.

  • god that afd les paul is a beauty :O Both Gibsons sound close but yeah probably because of the signature alnico 2 pro's in Slash's LP it sounds a little bit brighter with more of that raw power and bite, which I love. The Epiphone sounds just like mine, don't really like it; very closed, flat and muddy. Maybe a pickup change will bring that thing to life :)

  • @GuitarAriaFreak1010

I think the lack of covers on the Alnico II Pros of the Slash model helps with making it sound like it does. Some people find that uncovered pickups produce a slightly clearer tone with a bit more power. Obviously it's not an entirely fair comparison because the VOS Gibson has different pickups in it.

If it wasn't for the Slash logo on the headstock (not a GnR fan), and I had the cash, I'd totally buy one of those appetite LPs. Sounds really good.

  • @PantheonLincoln Yes, I notice that difference with my 2 les pauls aswell (both Epiphones though) but one has covers and the other doens't. The one without the covers sounds much clearer and the one with the covers doesn't sounds clear and definitely lacks that power you're talking about.

  • this guitar is awesome...

  • I think the VOS sounds the best! :-/ I do..

  • @gavquinn I agree. Looks the coolest too.

  • @gavquinn i definitely have to agree with you....sounds the best and looks the best..nevertheless i would still buy a slash signature guitar

  • I agree!!

  • I love Slash's playing and his guitars...NOTHING beats the real *VOS* Les Paul series...even Slash's signature model.

  • @jazer74 This is clearly what it is - LOOK! BUY!

  • @jazer74 This is clearly what it is - LOOK! BUY!

The 2 Gibsons are very close, the Slash model appears to me a little brighter - pickups maybe?

The difference of the Epiphone is quite on the nose, you can hear an obvious difference.

  • 10 per cent difference between all of them. I'd like to hear some lead.

  • THAT SOUNDS FAT! hell yeah\m/

  • Slash's model sounds better than ther other 2... Epiphone lack's on its performance, when you compare then together.

  • I would consider the Epiphone best for britpop but for all other purposes the 59.

  • the 59 more "nightrain" than others.

  • you hear with the epiphone that it has cheaper wood --> less dens --> fluffy (or someting like that ;p) tone

  • 59 RI sounds the fattest :) GOOD!!!

  • slash is the brightest and most open sounded, 59 RI is wamer and more contained, epiphone is relatively close but lacks punch and bite

  • @Jpalmieri4 you´re desciption is in my eyes completly right. But if you´d put the Seymour duncans in the Epiphone that are in the Gibson and change some electronics, there were only slightly differences. And everybody has to decide whether this differences are worth 1300€ more ^^

  • @cyberfeli true, i think a lot of the price has to do with the quality of the guitar, the materials, and the actual brand. I know what i'd rather be seen with onstage haha

  • @cyberfeli see, there is a difference. There is a difference in the nut, the neck, the way the neck is set, the electronics, and if you have a keen eye, the maple top isn't as nice on an epiphone.

  • @Jedidew I know the differences. And sorry in my comment i meant that you just hear slighly differences. Of course a gibson is like the better one, but was just thinking about the prices. If you´d put those pickups in the epiphone, are the slight differeces in the sound worth 800€ more ? Thats what i was thinking about. I once compared my epiphone with seymours in it and new potis with the gibson standart of my friend. For me in that situation my epiphone sounded better. But my result in the end

  • was that the difference between a epiphone and a gibson usa is a lot of smaller than between a gibson usa and a custom shop.

  • @Jpalmieri4 also the epiphone sounds like the amp has got a blanket over it

  • @Jpalmieri4

    you´re completely right.

quite interesting how the epiphone would sound with the seymour duncan slash signature pickups ;)

  • Oh, well it still sounds better to me than the other one.

  • Umm.. the vintage Gibson sounds better. Can never duplicate, original is original..

  • @ROYALNOZGUL its not a vintage les paul. Its a brand new VOS '59 les paul from the custom shop. Its just made to look old

  • what amp are you using ?

  • Is it just me or does the Epiphone sound closer to the AFD LP then the 1959 Gibson?

  • @101andytoll101 I thought it was the best sounding one of the group!!

at the very least not that far away to justify the enormous outlay of the other two, buy the Epi, sound like a gibson and save a bundle!

  • @inyourdreamsladdie Indeed. Or save even more and buy a vintage V100 :P

  • @inyourdreamsladdie i agree

  • @101andytoll101 Yes! but the original "Appetite" guitar as we are now calling it..was not even a real Gibson so yeah haha

  • @101andytoll101 its just you. lol
