In non-arid regions where vegetation has been stripped, it's far easier as the soil and local climate are still viable for greenery. Notably, over the last 30 years of satellite observation, the planet's become greener due to more CO2.

And that because of an increase in global temperatures the amazon forest just experienced it's second 100 year drought in the past 5 years. @jonesgerard - so for example, the denier-cults lies that the NOAA report on Russia blamed blocking and not greenhouse gases at all, is easily seen as liar propaganda when taken into account with the likes of butterfly effect. as the excess CO2 and heat etc changes the whole system, it then leads to differences in the usual blocking effects, therefore leads to the extreme heats - or indeed colds - depending which weather aspect is being thrown out of whack at that point in time.

How can any forest be threatened by temperature, unless it's freezing. Note that 99.9% of species flourish in the tropics, which includes trees?
Note also, that deserts have highest temp fluctuations, the tropics don't. That's due to water vapour. Trees love temp, CO2 and water. There's your proof.

@MrOllyK - deserts lack clouds, is why they are so hot at day and cold at night. they also tend to lack things that alter or dissipate winds. they lack clouds because they don't have enough plants. the plants would otherwise retain water, and are vital in the rainfall - groundwater - spring etc cycle. which is also why temp fluctuations threaten forests - removing more forest takes away the plants that hold the water in and keep the rain cycles going.

In non-arid regions where vegetation has been stripped, it's far easier as the soil and local climate are still viable for greenery. Notably, over the last 30 years of satellite observation, the planet's become greener due to more CO2.

And that because of an increase in global temperatures the amazon forest just experienced it's second 100 year drought in the past 5 years. Global Warming also makes forests more susceptible to larger wild fires. Now we're learning that some plants don't absorb as much CO2 as was once thought, thus the problem is even more severe: google- Big Clue to Future Climate Change in Small Plants.

Theres also been quite a bit of first class investigative work done by Christopher Booker of the Telegraph and Dr. Richard North of the EU Referendum about Dr. Pachauris connections to TERI (The Energy Research Institute) and his IPCC position. As I pointed out about his email usage, it seems he has a difficult time delineating the two to ensure that there is no conflict of interest.

goog, thanks for the weather report, but noting the NOAA, NASA GISS temp figures have been tampered with beyond reproach, your hottest on record is wrong. It was actually 1934. We've been cooling for the last 9 years. There's nothing unusual about our temps today:

Besides, just coming out of an ice age I'd expect some melting.

Mislead? No.
Just noting again, that the NOAA, NASA GISS data has been tampered with.
However, many corrections have been made that show 1934 to be highest in the US, which doesn't matter much in comparison to global as it's only a 1.25C variation on a single year. The US map shows from 52F to 52.8F from 1900-2010. That's almost flat at 0.4C/century.
It's only a degree difference and many other years have been colder.
We've still been cooling for 9 years.

@MrOllyK DO not forget that the last time we had CO2 levels 3x to 5x higher than now was 120,000 years ago and the plants and animals were huge. Thats where all our coal and oil has come from these decaying living things.

Exactly right. All that CO2 (up to 20x higher in the Carboniferous) and never a runaway greenhouse ever.
Notably in the Jurassic, where life clearly thrived in 10x today's CO2 and delicate aragonite corals evolved in non-acid oceans. Proof of which are those pesky (to CAGWists) un-dissolved fossils on our museum shelves.
Farmers pump extra CO2 into their greenhouses for good reason. The plants are CO2 starved compared to the past they evolved in.

@MrOllyK The year you wrote this comment tied with 2005 as the hottest on record. The coolest temperature year in the past decade was 2008 and that was hotter than any year in all the previous decades not including 1998. Currently the droughts and wildfires in america are estimated to be worse than the dust bowl.

I agree, GW/Climate Change is a massive scam. The recent Arctic conditions we've seen here in the UK prove NOTHING about "global warming". It simply proves that the Earth is continuing in its natural cycles of hot and cold, which is what it has been doing for centuries.

@Paulph4: no no no no Don't be fooled by cold snaps in a *few* northern countries this winter. The global average temperature still set records - but you have to look at the GLOBE, not the UK.

I'm not 'fooled' by that, but clearly the GW/Climate Change warm-mongers have clearly fooled you. The fact is that although 1998 was the warmest year on record globally, since then there has been *no observable increase in global temperatures*. Thanks.

Global warming is the readily demonstrated cause and effect of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere
Regardless of what was happening with the natural Ice Age cycle of the last few millenia, or orbital cycles, subduction, ocean and atmospheric chemistry, changes in the geometry of the continents etc..
...the gases our industrial waste processes have dumped into the atmosphere are having an extra effect which is causing things to warm up faster than they would have otherwise...

They always forget to mention that the so called temperature rise is bogus. all the measurements are taken on land. 70% of the earth surface is water. Most of the temperature measurement systems are close to manmade heat sources, stand on asphalt, have been moved several times, are too close to the ground and countless other faults. Hence: no proof that temperature rose when solar activity dropped. this is a verifiable FACT.
