Correction: it is largely a send up of the movie ''Face Off.'' The tragic ''hero''--it ends badly for the couple--is Billy Duke. The movie is pure cheese. Dandy Dick Bedlow is supposed to be reporter Dick Beddoes.
Haven't seen this in decades. Great mishmash of Canadiana semi inspired by an actual movie called ''Face Off'',made in 1971. Darryl Sittler was an actual Toronto Maple Leaf and John Candy does look like a larger version of him here with the dead on hair and the small lips. Murray Eagleson is a combination of the singer Murray McLauchlan and now disgraced hockey lawyer Alan Eagleson and deliberately sounds like singer Gordon Lightfoot. Brilliant. I'm a Canadian and a Leafs fan. Leafs fans suffer.
