I live in Colorado and love taking the ol' 85 out and letting it have a romp in the snow when we get a few feet, having snow up to the hood and passing plows is amazing ;)--to anyone hating on the quattro technology I speak from experience that nothing surpasses my Audi on icy roads (including my 1999 4x4 F-250 7.3L direct inject turbo diesel), when semi's are jack-knifed, FWD cars are stuck spinning, jacked up trucks are sliding around, I can drive with complete confidence in any condition.

It is really fun to get the quattro out before they clear the streets. I do it every year - except this year. Not a single day with snow covered streets here in the middle of Germany this year, just some mornings with a little bit of ice :(

Mine is not a R8 but just a A4 Quattro but still with sport supension and stuff so it is great for getting around snow covered curves with speed that you'll never be able to pull of with just two tires trying to force the car into the new direction.

The commercial is a bit misleading. They are showing covered streets with snow and I mean 1 foot or more and the guy in R8 pulls out of the driveway and drives in a snowy area where street was cleared before (little snow left on the road). HOWEVER, I own Audi A5 with S5 suspension with 19' rims and summer tires and I was passing by cars already stuck in snow around my neighborhood in Queens. I wish I had a video camera with me. This is the only "all wheel drive" ehem- Quattro you'll ever need!

@Belenderer Yes you can. Just tap the brake pedal, and torque from the brake gets applied to the slipping wheel. That torque resistance from the slipping wheel gets multiplied by the center diff and applied to the wheels that don't slip. Sure, we have open front and rear diffs, but that's not usually a problem with a little traction control.
