  • a tiny liltte slit in the middle. ;)

  • What an awesome hobby (:

  • You can use cotter pins, dowels, allen wrenches, tooth picks, shish kibob sticks and not have to spend 10.00 for a bead roller. All of the above mentioned come in different sizes and the cotter pins are only 97 cents at Walmart in the tool section of the store with the screws, nuts and other things that come packaged.

  • I have been making paper beads for just a week also. I do not have any reason to buy a bead roller though since cotter pins, allen wrenches and skewers seem to do the trick also. You can also use scrap book paper also which makes a sturdy bead also. I use Mod Podge for a sealant for my beads and Tacky Glue to keep them together. With the access glue that is on my finger after rolling, I just use to secure the bead more, let it dry, and then seal it with whatever sealant you want to use.

  • What do you recommended to use if I don't have a bead roller?

  • Great video. I also have the paper bead book from klutz. You can buy just the tool for a few dollars off their website or get the entire kit. I got mine from costco so it was alot cheaper than the website. I have also seen it at micheals craft store.

  • great video.

  • wooowwwww.... i really like your video it helps a lot..now i can make my self useful not just stayin at home doin nothing.thanks..

  • @erikarhy

Glad you like it! Happy rolling!

  • I love this! Your beads are gorgeous. Thank you for the tutorial!

  • @SpacesCorners

    You're very welcome! Happy rolling!

  • I just ordered my tools - can't wait for them to come in so that I can try this. Thanks for the tutorial - it was very clear and easy to understand.

  • @BeadingJune

Thank you very much. You can start off by using toothpicks, but the tool I use 'grabs' the paper which I prefer.

  • @EvelineUK

I tried it with a thin knitting needle, which wasn't very easy to do. The tools I got look like yours - three different diameters, and hold the paper well. I picked up two books of wallpaper samples from a local store - books that were outdated and ready to be tossed out. Free, pretty, sturdy paper!

  • @ayellessnuffelhoek yes that is a quilling tool. there are quite other tutorials out there just as tea bag folding which is fun as well. Good luck. I am with you just one more thing to get addicted to.

  • This looks like so much fun!

  • Oh My... something else to get addicted to doing! Nicely done, very simple instructions and I've made a few along while watching this video. Thanks so much. :oD

  • @sherriscreativemind Making paper beads is very addictive. ;) Soon you'll be looking at all kinds of paper and wonder what kind of paper beads you could make out of them.

  • I love your Accent ! and the video was amazing, aswell.

  • hi!!!

i actually tried it with a ballpoint refil... works pretty well :D

to make it a little more sturdey, i applied glue to the entire strip of the magazine.... makes it stronger...

i also found a cheap alternative for glue.. cooked rice when cooled.. mush it... and apply it... :) makes your fingers soft and 'serves' the purpose..

thanks eveline... i'm hooked now :D i will email what i make out of these beads to you... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee! :D

    -Purvika

  • @usernameunvalidhuh

Cooked rice? now that is something I would never have thought of!

  • @usernameunvalidhuh you can also use a top coat (clear) fingernail polish and it will give it a real glossy look. Pretty and it will stick too. Have fun, I never thought about using a ballpoint pen I will have to give that a try. Thanks for the hint.

  • @iscrca thanks... i made really pretty beads with old leftover fingernail polish...

  • looks great!

  • What a wonderful video! I have doing a swap with some of my magazines, but beads are looking mighty tempting now.

  • Paper beads! I haven't thought of them in years. We used to make them with a skewer or chopstick. Great, clear video and I love to listen to your wonderful UK voice!

  • For everyone wanting a bead roller.. I got mine with a kit/book by Klutz called Paper Beads, but that's aimed at young girls. You can buy amazing bead rollers and already rolled beads from Aubreysbeads . com and support a community and school in the Philipines when you do so. I got my new rollers today and will give them a rest run tomorrow!

  • I also ment to ask you, where did you get your tool from, to create this cool idea for my addiction of collecting lots of magazines...lol.

  • cool, I used to do this when I was younger but forgot all about it, i now rememeber how addictive it can be!

  • I think I need to make some paper beads! Thanks, Eveline! - Alix

  • That would be so cool! Be sure to take some pictures, or better yet, do a video response! Would love to see them!

  • Have you tried shaping them with a hobby drill? We're going to find you packed away under a pile of beads! Lovely!

  • A drill? They're paper! But I suppose you could do paper mache ones and then drill a hole in them. I think this is quicker...

  • not for the holes, but to buff the edges and make octogons or hexagons or diamonds... That could be cool also!

  • Maybe if I do really big round ones... there's not a whole lot of paper to be buffing or edging....

  • That's so cool! Where do you get the bead roller thingy?

  • I can't believe how many you've done! You're on a rollll!!!

  • WOOHOOO VIDEO! :D

Man I love your accent! It's so cooool!

I so need one of those rolly things!!!!!!

    You rock! 5 stars!

  • *LOL* Thank you so much! And yes, I've already done tons and I just can't stop... Love it love it love it!

  • fantastic instructional video ! wonderful

  • Thank you so much. My sweetie thinks I deserve a spot on a Children's tv show. ;)

  • Thats just so cool...I love the idea. I'm gointo use that cause I have a think about saving magazines, and I can finally use it now.

  • Brilliant! Be sure to show off what you've made!
