If we drilled in ANWR, it would create a huge boom for jobs and revenue in the United States. It wouldn't bring down the price of gas immediately, but over time it would really help our economy. In addition, it would provide money that could be put toward further research in greener energies. One of the most popular topics in Alaska is geo-thermal energy. Therefore, drilling would satisfy our oil demands while helping work toward the future.
The only reason Obama and other environmental groups are trying to paint a picture of this amazing beautiful landscape that evil oil will destroy is to steer the country toward greener energy sources. Green energy is a great idea, but we can't stop using oil overnight. In addition, our dependency on foreign oil in the Middle East is an unhealthy and dangerous relationship, and doesn't do anything to strengthen our economy.
I am completely for drilling in ANWR, as most Alaskans are. Oil companies are trying to drill in a very small area (comparable to a postage stamp on a football field) that was originally set aside for energy exploration in 1980 before it was passed as a wildlife refuge. It won't "destroy the last pristine wild place". The Alaska Pipeline stretches 800 miles across "pristine wild" and isn't destroying the land surrounding it with oil and toxins.
Thanks for uploading and the link to the site 'NativeChildrenSurvival'.
I believe that the site 'care2com' also has a petition, maybe also with a pre-written letter, where people can sign it. I also encourage people to participate in the daily 'click for free' where every click makes a small change for those who are involved in the project.
I really hope that people learn to understand the importance of nature and a better care for animals. We are all connected.
Thank you for sharing this, I hope Obama keeps his promise. Being a politician, however, I doubt it, if special interest groups and pet pork barrel projects have their s(w)ay. 5/5 stars, would love to visit Alaska. Lovely scenery. May it stay that way.
