This is extraordinary! Rutting season for Elk is Oct-Nov, whereas Bison rut in August September. Bison felt threatened. Though the Bison is twice the weight, the Elk's antlers made up the difference. [Bison Bull ~2200lbs; Bull Elk ~1100lbs] At one point, it seemed the Bison felt an antler tip goring on its head. Both seemed to figure there was no value in continuing. No cows I guess ;-) Actually an Elkson or Biselk would be impossible. Bison r 2 Elk as Humans r 2 Gibbons... ick.
