I'm sure Wilcannia is a nice place and the majority of the people there good people. It's home to the Wilcannia Mob ffs, but it doesn't leave a good impression when you drive through and the servo, pub and any other building that holds money is caged up like a prison. lol
I've heard a lot of bad things about Wilcannia from people I know but let me state that this is there opinion & not mine I think it would be a very Interesting place to visit.
When we went there. The pub was bared up and stell plates all over it so i couldn't get a coldie. My missus got handed a key to the toilet in sevice station, The key had a wooden bat chained to it for personal secuity i guess. When she come out from the loos was yeld abuse at buy people that don't even know her. As we drove out a kid smeared his hand down the side of the car traveling at 50ks we he was walking down the middle of the street.
I love Western NSW and I've driven through Wilcannia a number of times, and stopped and had lunch. I heard bad things about the town, but I must say, hardly anyone has been there when I drove through, and the only people we ran into were very friendly.
I'll be going through there again in about a month and a half and I look forward to it. Even though it's very empty and run down it's one of my favourite places on Earth. It has a cool aura about it that other places lack.
I enjoyed the clip!! The surroundings around western N.S.W are absolutely beautiful and I am an proud Australian. Thankyou for sharing this clip it shows how natural some parts of Australia really are.
I would never stop in Wilcannia.....EVER!! Continue your drive to Cobar or Broken Hill pending on your direction but for godsake dont stop in Wilcannia. We were harassed by the local Aboriginals for money or smokes which was bloody aweful and the town looked run down and you could tell that they were in a drought with no water flowing from the Darling River.
I dont play blame games!! There is no excuse for this kind of behaviour and if they want people to stop and enjoy there town then the locals behaviour would need to be addressed....possibly by the elders maybe??
I hate to say it but it goes full circle. People need to be kind to each other. With the attitude you have its just the same as the governing bodies I mentioned. The elders do & have tried. But is the younger generations where most of the problems lie. But did you like the clip??
@joannenclayton HAHAH Im 11 and I have the balls to stop at wilcannia when I used to ride my bike from a property futher west. I met a few locals. But you have to be careful that you don't arrive before they wake up (11am - 2pm) or you might have some trouble :)
A few decades ago the United States government conducted nuclear tests in the Australian outback. They forgot however that some of the natives were still inhabiting those parts, and found out when a few years later the mutated derelict survivors crawled out of the mess and formed a township to rob people on the way through to Broken Hill. It's called Wilcannia, and was the inspiration for 'The Hills Have Eyes'.
you are what us ausies refer to as a "dickhead" I'm not sure if you are from Australia but if you are it is even worst. firstll, the nuclear tests in Australia were conducted South Australia, to the North West of the state. secondly willcannia was once one of the largest towns in country NSW used as a trading hub. "the hills have eyes" is a shit house yank flick of no relevents to Willcannia. you wanker....pisss off.
If you are that narrow minded what are you doing out here in the first place - I suspect Broken Hill must of been a stop for tea and scones with a visit to the information centre where you complained about the thickness of the toilet paper. One of those people that doesn't stop - just shoot photos from your secured nimbus and share your stories of travelling through remote Oz. You've been no where and your travelling backwards friend.
yeah i s'pose ur right its jst that i get really offended by these stereotypes that think they know everything, they dnt know tha place so they shouldnt judge
I worked with the biggots you speak of, thats why I made the clip, and interestingly I was criticised because there is no footage of people outside the pub! Like you I don;t tolerate biggots either.
they are only a select few, I know what you are saying. Unfortunately thats the way people are. Everything has its good and bad - and that rests with the people.
maybe u guys shouldnt judge the town until u stay or there for more than a day u'll find that the people r really friendly and its not a bad town like the citys at least u walk around without being mugged or shot and can leave ya doors open and not worry about ur home being brken into unlike alot places ive been and maybe u should thnk bout the ppl ur offndng when u make remarks like that look in ur own towns where you live and its not that good i bet
Wilcanniachik88 you might have mistaken the clip, it actually was meant to be a positive clip about the place. I don;t control what other people write on the article.
