I don't see the point in a new muffler unless you want the extra performance. People say that louder mufflers will make drivers notice you more, but I think thats a lot of hooey. They just like the sound.

A loud muffler is more of a hindrance when on a highway, doing a constant speed. Constant droning ... not fun.

It was weird to see heavy traffic without everyone tailgating everyone else. Here in Chitown, there's not anywhere near that much space between cars. And if a gap half the size of a Geo opens up, some cager will "merge" (aka "swerve, without or without signaling") to take it. And they have a problem with motorcycles lane splitting? Hypocrites. :-(

so i think im going to go with a 6 instead of a 5. i havent learned to ride yet (still) but i lik ethe way the 6 feels and responds. i been on the back of a few bikes and i have only ridden one and it was a 250 so i know that i dont want that. im almost 200lbs and and im almost 6ft tall. the 600 will be good. any suggs on which one? ninja, the gixxer, yama?... old ducati?

Ash, (and UK readers) on "filtering".

The percentage of motorbikes to autos may be 20 to 30 percent in Europe. In Asia the numbers may go as high as 70% motorbikes to 30% cagers.

Here in the USA it may be 3% bikes to other vehicles.

Americans (for the most part) think of motorcycles as noise making nuisances: and they really don't want to see us. And they feel they have the right to disrespect us.

I think I know that freeway oddly enough I rarely get cought in traffic there...if you go up Allen and take a right at....umm...Barbur? i think it is...you go through a neighbor hood its got some bad ass twisties....when cars aren't in front of you, haha. and generally faster to get to 217, or at least past the big hill on 26. which normally has traffic.

Yeah in the UK we're alowed to filter, there are certain rules like you can't move all the way to the front of a two lane if theirs a crossing or something like that, other than that though i ALWAYS cut through the traffic, main advantage of a bike and they don't let people do it there? if you could i bet more people would take up biking and going to work, it'd cut the conjestion right down, nice vid anyway ash :)

Would it be possible to elevate your camera angle just a smidgen? We are mostly looking at about thirty feet of roadway in front of your bike.

Also, I would forget about "filtering" and "lane splitting" in the USA. There are three reasons for me saying that:

1. Police

2. Road rage.

3. Cagers who are looking for any reason to "pay back" bikers for getting an easy pass. Meaning: Road Rage.

4. Cagers will "nudge" you off your bike and pretend they didn't notice you.

I lane split in NJ and past the police, though not a state trooper. The cops didn't seem to car but.. the cagers all get angry and block the openings so I can't pass. I wave as I pass them on the other side..

Do you ride the same way off camera? Obviously you have to give some attention to focus on what you're saying, how you're saying it all with a camera on your nose! What about your driving styles in a car vs on your bike? In my car I tend to go with the flow, but on my bike I notice I tend to find myself  being more aggressive, maybe just because of the acceleration factor and the bike seems to want go fast! Maybe a future vid idea??? Thanks for listening & always replying!

After seeing a guy lane spliting in CA and getting hit by a car changing lanes out of a double yellow I would be extremely careful. Only thing that saved him was he had a camera running so he got they guys illegal lane change on his bullet cam.
