@Rory3GS MCR, PARD and Paramore got associated with this because of the emo fashion trend. They essentially adopted a similar appearance and when it became popular it began to be associated with everything where people where tight jeans and have a certain hairstyle.

Emo changed the punk by bringing in personal and emotional lyrics. Emo wasn't short for emotional it was short for emotive. It was originally used as an insult to people who liked "emo" bands but they turned it into a more positive term to describe people in the scene who liked this music. Everyone wants to deny a scene once it gets lame or new generations take it to new places, but back in the day (mid nineties) emo was definitely a different scene than it is today, and I loved it. And people called it emo, and nobody fucking argued about it. It was punk that had a lot of female fans, so if you went to a Get Up Kids or Promise Ring show, you could probably get laid that night, or at least make out with some chick. Good times.

So can someone tell me how MCR, PATD, and Paramore can be put into the same genre as this? I just can't understand it. Emo changed the punk by bringing in personal and emotional lyrics. But yeah the other part is right, well it is a style based on the music but it's destroyed by media, the style is just a lighter version of goth and the sub-culture got nothing to do with cutting or being emotional, just music

Emo wasn't short for emotional it was short for emotive. It was originally used as an insult to people who liked "emo" bands but they turned it into a more positive term to describe people in the scene who liked this music. When people say their emo they usually mean they listen to emo music and dress like modern day emo or hardcore bands. I like old and new emo :)

Everyone wants to deny a scene once it gets lame or new generations take it to new places, but back in the day (mid nineties) emo was definitely a different scene than it is today, and I loved it. And people called it emo, and nobody fucking argued about it. It was punk that had a lot of female fans, so if you went to a Get Up Kids or Promise Ring show, you could probably get laid that night, or at least make out with some chick. Good times.
