  • Comment removed

  • Believe it or not this one of the very first emo bands. Emo has changed over the years into Black Veil Brides crap. But this is one of the first emo groups ever.

  • I like this band, but this song sucks. seriously

  • @gayoo550 It's all good bro

  • If there was one period I wish I were old enough to see it would be the early dc days and then revolution summer. Rites of spring and embrace playing shows all summer? Fucking insane. Music is almost passionless these days

  • I can't stop hearing it

  • ATTACK THE SNOWLAKES >:D!

  • lol random but, does anyone else have the option of having snowflakes on the video 0_0

  • @TacoGir98 ah yeah LOL

  • Well I cant say I like this... But I'm glad that bands like this existed to bands like Black Veil Brides (-3) could exist as well ;)

  • @TiffanyHikari I'm just glad these bands existed, because they're awesome, and honestly BVB songs sound very repitiscious

  • @TiffanyHikari its kinda sad to think that a band this good could inspire a metalcore band so very bad

  • @berbobloo BVB is more of glam.

  • @PokemonXTotodileX100 BVB is not glam.

  • @DerpySlayer6 emo glam bitches,fuck them

  • @DerpySlayer6 glam queers

  • @TiffanyHikari Black Veil Brides take nothing from these geniuses. They're not even close to post-hardcore. They're generic, shitty pop metal.

  • Is this Guy Picciotto?

  • @LJfromIB yeah. this is the band he was in before fugazi.

  • @OhGodVelociraptors oh, shit! I called it ahahahaha

  • @Kyomara1987 this is what you do

    8=======D O:

dont look it up on youtube if you dont like the music faggot

  • @noahhayes95 So how the fuck are you supposed to find good new songs?? Motherfucker!

  • im just a kid and i would love to be alive when this band was still kickin ass!!!

  • The true emotive hardcore music. I LOVE this song....

  • Got this on vinyl last night. Jelly?

  • @ViewtifulPanda Please teach me how to ebay, master.

  • @C0rporeal I think you meant "Teach me how to go to St. Louis and shop at Vintage Vinyl."

  • @ViewtifulPanda lucky basteerddd

  • @Kyomara1987 Fuck you. You're a troll and nothing more than a creep who comes to these videos to piss of the fans of music they like. He's a good singer, but you are entitled to your own trolling opinion on "Shit" music.

  • and this is what happens when people make music that can't sing for their fucking life, this is terrible

  • @Kyomara1987 You are entitled to your opinion. But it is not terrible. The vocalist is doing a fine job. We would be no farther ahead if this song were never written. If you don't like it, either hit replay until you do, move along, or post shallow opinions. Do whatever you want. That's what this place is all about.

  • @Kyomara1987 oh shut up.

  • if you're a real fan of emo, then you know this guys....

  • the band called themselves punk, stop trying to use the stupid ass term emo.

  • @remorrs emo is music. this band is emo. but i fuckin hate emo!

  • @remorrs stupid idiot.... THIS is emocore... and it was played by punks. the kids today call theire scene "emo"... but they don´t know what emo really is. it´s just a kind of hardcore-punk and just music. friends of mine love emocore and i didn´t see more true punks as them. you hear fast guitarr and fast drums and directly think it´s usual punkrock?! amd they call themselves punk...that´s right but the music is "emocore".

  • @iPissedInYaBong okay i wasnt looking for a lecture u faggot. i was just saying that they Rites Of Spring never wanted to be labeled emo, they said and i quote "its the stupidest word ever, it was always my dream to be in a succesful punk band" and i already know about all the trends and fake emo bullshit, i ddint need a paragraph explaining what i already knew.

  • @remorrs they were using the word "emocore" on their own for their music... so why are u talking shit if u don´t need a lesson?!

  • @iPissedInYaBong never heard that before, and i never talked shit dude i just made a coment and u had to come up and be like "stupid idiot blah blah"

  • @remorrs yea cause someone could believe your comment. the kids should know that THIS is what really been ment of "emo". they destroyed the word like hitler destroyed the symbol of the sun! they should know that they´re thievs... it should get in their plastic heads!

  • @iPissedInYaBong dude if you havnt noticed every fucking coment on these videos is about "emo this emo that" and my comment was true, the lead singer said himself that they meant for theyre music to be punk rock, and whether people like it or not, the word "emo" hasnt been the same for a very long time. as much as i LOVE original emo music, it doesnt do any good to try and bring back its old definition, as much as i hate to say it

  • @remorrs yeah it´s true that the word "emo" was disliked by the singer. it was only the emotional kind of punk...the style of the band. i know...okay sorry they called their own music punk but said it is the emotional kind of. but after that there was the music style "emotional hardcore"...and yes i like it too and of cause it is sad what happened and there is no possibility to get it back...but the kids just should know that their scene and music is stolen without meaning or political attitude

  • @iPissedInYaBong yeah i feel ya, it does piss me off when i think about how this great music could have gone a long way without the media and faggots taking the name and turning it into something useless

  • I fucking hate the term emo to describe music with personal and heartfelt lyrics.

  • emos dead.. but when this song plays, it comes back to life for a brief 3 minutes and 9 seconds

  • I love this band, There is plenty of 'emo' bands that are great; even nowadays (I DON'T MEAN THAT BUBBLEGUM COMMERCIAL STUFF)

  • hey guys, love not hate <3

its a cool song lets keep the comments cool too :)

  • Dave Grohl likes this band ,i read about it in Rolling Stone magazine, the playlist issue with a bunch of artists telling about their influences and other favorite bands and artists. this song sounds really cool.

  • Dave Grohl likes this band ,iread about it in Rolling Stone magazine, the playlist issue with a bunch of artists telling about their influences and other favorite bands and artists. this song sounds really cool.

  • ITS NOT EMO ITS POST HARDCORE STOP SAYING EMO YOU PRETENTIOUS FAGGOTS.

  • @snower5554 People called it 'emo' to insult it as they thought the lyrics were too emotional for punk. A bunch of faggots embraced this afterwards and created some of the shittiest music know to mankind.

  • @secretsantaone Emocore was first used in Thrasher Magazine to describe some of the newer music emerging from the hardcore punk scene in DC (Embrace, RoS etc.) - not as a slur, just as a straight description.

You're right about the second bit though I guess, except for the whole "gay-as-a-slur" thing which makes you look like a prejudiced fuck, you might not want to do that.

  • @trallala Better than being a pretentious, holier-than-thou fuck. Faggot has transcended it's old meaning to refer to just any person you want to insult. Sort of how when you call someone a bastard you don't literally mean that his parents weren't married or even that the concept of having children outside of marriage is offensive. Hell, I'd go as far as to say a good amount of people who use 'bastard' don't know its actual meaning. It's just a generic pejorative term now. You faggot.

  • @secretsantaone I don't think you know what the word "pretentious" means! And I see your point, but I disagree. To a lot of people, even most, it's still a gay slur - YOU might use it as a general pejorative term (really though, can't you think of anything else?), that doesn't mean everyone else sees it the same way. I'm just saying, you come across as an asshole using it as a slur, if you want to keep doing that then go right ahead.

  • @trallala Of course I know what pretentious means you patronising arse. Of course I can can think of something else, but 'faggot' still contains some connotations to do with weakness and being overly emotional, which seemed particularly apt given the context. Quick question, are you gay? Or are you getting all offended on someone else's behalf?

  • @secretsantaone It doesn't seem like you know what pretentious means. How is that word at all appropriate in that context?

Why do you think "faggot" carries connotations of being weak and overly emotional? Do you really not see how that plays into the word being a gay slur?

Also: yeah I'm gay, but I don't see how that's relevant at all. I'd fly in your face if you claimed "nigger" was a general pejorative term with "connotations of dark skin colour" as well, despite me being white.

  • @trallala Probably because you're swanning about with an inflated sense of self-importance. If being gay carries connotations of being overly emotional you're not exactly breaking the stereotype here. I'm not claiming 'nigger' is a general pejorative term, I'm claiming 'faggot' is, stop confusing the issue. The word 'faggot' originally meant an old woman, then a bundle of sticks. Hell, it's a fucking meatball here in Britain. Language evolves, get over it.

    Besides, intent not meaning.

  • @secretsantaone Where was I being overly emotional? I just told you you look like a prejudiced asshole when you use it as a slur. You kind of do! I'm not saying you ARE a prejudiced asshole. I don't think you actually dislike gay people. Most people I've met who listen to RoS tend to be fairly amiable, liberal folks, I think you're probably a decent guy that chose his words poorly.

  • @secretsantaone In short: To most people, the word "faggot" isn't a general pejorative term. It means "gay". It's a word used to insult gays, or imply "gayness" (that is, being overly emotional or limp-wristed or weak or whatever). Keep using it as a general pejorative term if you want, but that's not how other people are going to read it, and a lot of people might think you an asshole for it.

  • @trallala Ok. Should I stop calling things 'retarded' to avoid offending the mentally handicapped? Should I stop describing strange concepts as 'foreign' to me for fear of offending people from other countries? Should I stop calling people motherfuckers to prevent offending the incestuous?

Take the stick out of your arse. Though most like as not you'll read that as another gay slur.

  • @secretsantaone so you concede that when people say "faggot" they mean "gay" after all, then?

I guess it seems less offensive to you because noone has shouted "faggot" when you walk down the street, you've never heard it grunted at you between kicks to your ribs. If you can avoid offending a lot of people simply by just NOT using a word (and you fucking well know it's offensive behind your screen of defensive arguments), why would you? Unless you're a bigot, that is.

  • @trallala Of course people can mean gay when they say faggot you idiot. I never argued against that. It does not mean that every time they use 'faggot' they must be referring to a gay man.

I heard a guy say 'prick' when he punched me in the face. I don't go around youtube attempting to censor out the word prick. To be frank I don't give two shits if you're 'offended' or not by me saying faggot. You know I wasn't referring to homosexuals, you're getting worked up and offended for it's own sake.

  • @trallala Fuck you faggot. I don't care about your sexuality, I have plenty of gay friends, but by your logic we should censor fuck and all the other swears so desparate bible-bashing housewives can don't have to fell the need to control every move their kids make on the internet.

  • @Gritagris wow, way to completely miss the point

  • @trallala You're offended by the use of an out-dated word not directed at you. There's no point to that, it's just being self-righteous prick.

  • @Gritagris Only a white straight male could think "faggot" was outdated as a gay slur. Which is what you are, right?

  • @trallala Are you expecting extra credit for pointing out the obvious or something? Faggot isn't even originally a slur. Words are subject to their usage, accept it or run yourself tired in internet arguments, that's your choice. I'd recommend the first.

  • @trallala allright listen faggot, gay people have theyre rights just as straght people do, peopple are gonna say faggot, who gives a shit. live with it dude. life fucking sucks but sometimes, we just gotta deal with it.

  • This band is great, so let's have some respect for the band and shut up about 'emo' which imo is the most retarted musical term ever..

  • So fucking sick of the word "emo". God damn.

  • i love his voice, it's just amazing

  • emo is still alive.

  • i enjoy this song

  • @Rory3GS MCR, PARD and Paramore got associated with this because of the emo fashion trend. They essentially adopted a similar appearance and when it became popular it began to be associated with everything where people where tight jeans and have a certain hairstyle.

  • I have no problem with the emo genre or the people who listen to it, tho I outright oppose suicide, but im not gonna hate. This is undoubtedly emo - numerous references to dying. So can someone tell me how MCR, PATD, and Paramore can be put into the same genre as this? I just can't understand it. The label 'emo' seems to be used for ALL music which isnt quite mainstream enough and has emotion and feeling behind it. Which obviously = I want to kill myself (sarcasm).

  • Why do people label? Emo doesn't mean oh look I cut myself and shit emo stand for emotion,in fact it isn't even a style its a music type also known as screamo, anyways this is a groovy song c:

  • @MELISSASEESSTARS Actually screamo is the sub-genre. Emo is short for Emotive-Hardcore/Violence, the term was first used by old school punkers to push them further away from the punk. Emo changed the punk by bringing in personal and emotional lyrics. But yeah the other part is right, well it is a style based on the music but it's destroyed by media, the style is just a lighter version of goth and the sub-culture got nothing to do with cutting or being emotional, just music

  • We don't label our self's emo. That's what people call us.To me being emo is just a life style and being myself, nothing extraordinary.

  • Guy hates it when people call his music emo... so why would you label it something its not?

  • fuck you :D

  • Die! Emperor, Die! cover of this song rocks!

  • they actually sound more post hardcore than emo to me

  • yeah if Mick Jagger sandg it would it still be emo? It seems funny how people got so caught up in having to name eveything something and didn't look at how cool the songs were.

  • #30 on Kurt Cobain's top 50 albums list

  • Way before their time...1985?? You have to be kidding. Sounds more mid 90s.

  • guy said emocore was the most dumbest thing i have ever heard there both its just something that is misunderstood love songs been around for hundreds of years any song can make a human being cry

  • Emotive hardcore. First steps of old emo, the real emo now died. End of discussion.

  • @Toughguysdontdance12 yeah, it's sad, then secondwave began and now thirdwave, and it's nothing like the old, BRING HARDCORE BACK TO EMO! BRING VIOLENCE BACK TO EMO! we need to start it over! we can't let people supress real emo by how modern """emo""" is judged

  • @Toughguysdontdance12 We can always bring it back now can't we? ;D We just need some new bands who holds on to the DIY style and we can rise once more =_=

  • @Toughguysdontdance12 it´s sad....

  • Emo wasn't short for emotional it was short for emotive. It was originally used as an insult to people who liked "emo" bands but they turned it into a more positive term to describe people in the scene who liked this music. When people say their emo they usually mean they listen to emo music and dress like modern day emo or hardcore bands. I like old and new emo :)

  • @didithejanetfan13 emotional and emotive mean pretty much the same thing.

  • @didithejanetfan13 Dude, it didn't mean emotive either. It was short for Emotional Hardcore.

  • @BornDecadesTooLate I know, I didn't mean the music genre, I meant what they called kids who listened to emo music.

  • It is hardcore

  • @BenTheAwesomeBastard hahahahahahaahahahahah

  • This is just punk rock

  • @thelivingsped you are homophobic asshole, who uses homophobic slurs, modern emo sucks, but fuck you you homophobic jerk

  • dont fight, all we need is love... and music

  • This isn't emo, it's post hardcore.

  • @m30wkittym30w Omg you fucking idiotic troll. Just leave you braindead 12 year old

  • @m30wkittym30w asshole!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • emo? doent that stands for emotional? well then i guess where all fucking emo

  • @MCRAICCNODM I don't have emotions. Im a man. not a fucking pussy! haha

  • @thelivingsped Emotions include anger and love. Youve never been mad....or wanted to fight. And love, guess youve never fucked a girl

  • @64notorious Im an android, faggot. And I get so much ass I have to put it in storage. So suck my cock.

  • emo band?

  • wow... Is this a real Emo band?

  • Emo is for fags. Music like this hardly fits the modern definition of emo. This is more like Punk than what Emo is now. Now "Emo" Is just Goth for pussies.

  • @thelivingsped you sir are a fool, now listen to the music and quit bitching. -_-

  • @adc896 Haha I like this. But modern emo music sucks. Emo is short for Emotive hardcore, and it's awful. Can you honestly say you like things like "Hawthorne Heights?" I am far from a fool

  • @thelivingsped HH play pop rock.

  • @sv3rige ....? no

  • @thelivingsped Is that all?

  • @sv3rige Nah, give me a few more days, Im putting the time and effort into this response. To make it the one you deserve. Once you see how well I state my argument, you'll have to agree with me. It's a little like (8 pages so far!) So can I have your email address, because I can't put it all on you tube.

  • @thelivingsped Still nothing.

  • @adc896 o im sorry i actually forgot what we were arguing about....

  • @adc896 o im sorry i actually forgot what we were arguing about....

  • @thelivingsped pfff u sir a a totally douchebag

  • G`NIIIIAAAL

  • this is real 1984 emo band...

i like the sound, especialy that's fckin guitar...

  • the identification of an emo band is that they dont call themselves an emo band...

  • Rifs are simular to IRON MAIDEN

  • @NoirSeth7 dude i dont understand half of the words in ur comment lol

  • if this is emo..them r.o.s. created it..this was waaay back - early 80s.....

  • There's no such thing as emo people. You know why? Because everyone has fucking emotions making the term redundant.

  • @Fleezyx uh i guess this is emocore, scene kids nowdays listen to thingd like BMTH and another bullshit

  • @MEGAFREDO14 ummmm i dont wanna sound like a retard but wut band is BMTH.... ikno its an acronym obviously lol

  • @DeVonte136 mmm, categorical problem is misinterpreting a concept only because you misinterpret the language. 'emo' is a term coined for guys that almost cut their wrists when in a concert. Of course all people have emotions but the term emo is not a synonym for emotional, thats what i told him. I then said that if he thinks 'whatever', or 'no', then he could give up all hope on language, saying that 'term' is also redundant, taking in account Wittgenstein's works on language. just being fuzzy..

  • @MEGAFREDO14 nm lol it just clicked bring me the horizon haha

  • how come every time their is a emo band all the people would talk about is emo people and what they dont or do like about them why dont yall just leave emos alone and talk about the music

  • @yasmin8731 Because the music sucks nearly as bad as the concept of labeling oneself and stereotyping oneself to being depressed for dumb reasons, as well as an overall angsty attitude.

  • Dude, they might have been labeled "emo" but they are fucking amazing.

And they didn't accept the label either way! This is another form of punk music.<3

    Straight out!

  • I have to agree with Ian and Guy. Emo and emocore has to bee some of the most retarded things I have ever heard of. When the fuck has hardcore not been emotional?

  • @DerrEinzige You basically just agreed with Ian and Guy and then said exactly what Ian said.

  • Comment removed

  • Everyone wants to deny a scene once it gets lame or new generations take it to new places, but back in the day (mid nineties) emo was definitely a different scene than it is today, and I loved it. And people called it emo, and nobody fucking argued about it. It was punk that had a lot of female fans, so if you went to a Get Up Kids or Promise Ring show, you could probably get laid that night, or at least make out with some chick. Good times.

  • @facefacts911 facefag9111

  • @MRapatas Your mom was probably emo, and I probably fucked her.

  • this is just punk emo is just another name to start a trend and a marketing label it's just punk.

You people found out this was the first emo band through wikipedia and google. Back then we just called it punk.

  • This music used to be good. Now, those stupid scene kids ruin it. Fuck them.

  • Well i stand corrected after some research. Im 30 and i didnt even know. Of course i was never a part of a "Scene" where i grew up becuase there were no scenes. I just played what ever came across my table. If it sounded good i liked it.

  • @blueridger28 it must hav been alot easier back then haha... these days ppl argue about it

  • That is not fucking EMO. Emo wasnt even thought of back in 84' ITs just some old SKEWL Punk.

  • Thats not Emo.

    God Damned.

  • god. REAL emo music. i almost forgot what it sounded like!!

  • Im getting sick of all the genres and fights between people here, it's outshining the music. Seriously, I think that those great guys who are singing this song would be ashamed to read these hateful, barbaric and overall trivial comments here.

  • this is emo? nvr heard it sound like this. much better than modern annoyance of whining

  • everyone !!

stop using this stupid term emo. It is fucking annoying.

It is called PUNK ROCK - thats it

    Good old PUNK ROCK

Shut the fuck up with this emo bullshit.

  • @ydrohoos7 - ?????? you're 30 years old, dude. you should have been there with the rest of us for this time. we were calling emo then. just because the connotation has now become this watered down BS music we all hate and a culture that has basically no differences from being "goth," it's still called "emo." *sunglasses mysteriously fall from the sky onto my face* deal with it

  • This is what my research yielded and i feel that i am correct...

Picciotto himself doesn't recognize the attribution of having "created" emo. "I've never recognized "emo" as a genre of music. I always thought it was the most retarded term ever. But honestly, I just thought that all the bands I played in were punk rock bands. The reason I think it's so stupid is that - what, like the Bad Brains weren't emotional? What - they were robots or something? It just doesn't make any sense to me."

  • @ydrohoos7 the term came from hardcore/veteran punkers, the it wasn't called emo until punkers started hating the new emerging genre

  • @ydrohoos7 your wrong

  • @ydrohoos7 your wrong

  • @RSchrisykane No he's not.

  • @TheTrainRex where you there when everyone was calling them emo? back in the 80s i wasn't but ive talked to people who were and they definitely called them emo. just cos emo has been changed into the bs it is today probably embarrassed the band but yeah they were called emo when they were around

  • @ydrohoos7 Dude, I agree with you on that one. But I think that their difference is that the Rite of Spring's songs were like kinda sad in a way when you listen to the lyrics. Some dude was just depressed one day, and just strummed some heavy shit. On and on till you got this whole subculture. It's sad, I'm part of the culture, but it's some shit that real "Emos" have to deal with kids who made scene kids and all the stereotypes. MCR is NOT "Emo" haha sorry had to say it.

  • @ydrohoos7 Being emotional and irrational are too very different things, in fact they have no correlation once so ever. And that is why the chicken crossed the road.

  • @Sober182H

no, the chicken crossed the road to buy pot, true story

  • @ydrohoos7 ya, i agree with you bro. emo just means emotional, and music is a way of expressing emotion (good music atleast). so i dont get why people think that it is a bad thing. on a side note i dont like how people think they are arrogent enough to label a group of people (who often times are going through depression) and just put them down, how pathetic are they...

  • its emocore .. most of "emo" are emobop or pocore

  • my favorite part of youtube is how you can go to any old punk, emo or post hardcore song and immediately identify the commenters that are still virgins. they're the ones who get the most uptight about defining genres.

  • @aaronfsurma Yeah virgins suck! I've gotten plenty of pussy! Pussy rules! Lets be men! Lousy virgins...

  • all of your genre related jibber jabber is ruining the song for me. Just listen and enjoy, or dont.

    less talk, more rock

  • i don't prefer this music, i prefer the stuff that's popular today

  • Must we have immature arguments about genres? Can't we just enjoy the music? Can't you all just FUCKIN SHUT UP? Sorry for my little outburst. I wish you all a nice day.

  • @TheSuperCashew aahahha forsureeee :)
