probably the best youtube video of teaching someone how to play guitar. props to someone who has clearly a nice place and could be off on a boat somewhere but is making vids for people to learn from : )
@julesjordan Thanks for the compliment!! I started playing at age 12 and did not have much money for lessons. It is hard to make it these days and many people are just barely able to feed themselves and/or their families let alone spend money on lessons. I decided that it would be a good gesture to help without any financial benefit!
Awesome video, and very inspirational. I f'ing love this song and I just got motivated to pick up the axe and learn how to play it. Thanks a bunch. You're a great guitar player.
@hardcore9427 Awesome!! That is the exact effect I want my videos to have. I started playing at age 12. My family was broke so I worked in a kitchen, washing dishes, to save up for a guitar and lessons. I find these free lessons to be a way to give back and hopefully help others learn a very fulfilling hobby. Let me know if you have any other songs you want to learn. I could always use suggestion. This weekend I am going to post a cover and tutorial for the song "Breakdown" by Tantric!
@NigarT Cool!! Glad to hear I could inspire you to pick up the best hobby around!! Keep me posted on your progress and let me know if you need any tips/advice!
Good job!! One piece of advice though: when you're strumming, strum downwards the whole time. It'll help with the timing. Check out the music video...you'll see.
@Dr4g0nSt4nc3 Well, your amp has a lot more to do with the sound than strings. Strings do change your sound but only slightly. What kind of amp do you have?
@TheLRC23 You are sooooooo welcome! Glad I could help! I checked out your videos and I must say that you are very talented!!!!! I suggest anyone else viewing my video to take a look at her page!! She is very very VERY Talented!! More videos are needed by you!! Keep it up!!

@hivolt03 Hey thanks!! I appreciate it. When I struggle with a part I just play it over and over and over again until I get it. You can do it man!! Awesome job! funny you mentioned "path that leads you nowhere" .. I thought that's what they were saying, and the " where" part was emphasized with a vibrato "rrrrrr"
because that's kind of how Lane would sing that word "nowherrrrre" it's what I heard in it I guess. Anyways I think you play fantastic and teach well. please keep it up. BTW I got the J.Cantrell G&L Rampage and it freaking sounds amazing.
@pjrgs I agree! I am an old AIC's fan so I expect the words to come out like Lane would sing them! I bet that J Cantrell G&L does sound great!! You are very lucky!! I love the Zakk Wylde guitar but miss having a tremelo!!
thanks bro... 26 years playing... usually figure shit out myself... but this one is hard to hear in spots. plus i got a little lazy... thank you for your work here!
@loknloll You are very welcome my friend and thank you for the compliment. Check out my other lessons as well. I have been playing for quite some time as well but I often learn from others! There are some amazing players on here that are half my age that I learn from!
Nice lesson from one of my favorite bands. Checked out your other vids...Nobody is really doing any Days of the New lessons. Just covers. "Freak" and "Flight Response" are great songs. The world of the internet needs DOTN lessons!!! (tantric doesn't count) :)
@RunTMCfan Thanks a bunch. You just reminded me of a band I used to always listen to and have not for quite some time! I will look into doing some lessons on DOTN!
Thanks a lot. Wish we had more who could teach as well as you do, and do that for free :-) Could you reveal your gear btw? Your amps, and anything else you might be using to get that sound?
@roverforever Thanks a bunch! I have been told that I should charge for these lessons, but I remember how hard it was to afford lessons when I was very young and desperate to learn guitar 25 years ago. There was no internet and lessons were very expensive and most instructors lacked patience and tolerance. I plan to post many more tutorials!!
@roverforever My electric guitar is a Zakk Wylde Edition Les Paul by Epiphone with Zakk Wylde Active EMG pickups and my amp is a Line 6 Spider II with 2 10inch Celestion Speakers. I do not use anything else to acquire this sound. The amp has a really great delay that helps out. Hope this helps.
Thanks a lot, this has been extremely helpful in learning the song. I haven't been playing long but thanks to the way you've broken it all down I've got a decent grasp of it. Bonus points for including the tab.

BTW I got the J.Cantrell G&L Rampage and it freaking sounds amazing.
pjrgs 1 year ago
@pjrgs I agree! I am an old AIC's fan so I expect the words to come out like Lane would sing them! I bet that J Cantrell G&L does sound great!! You are very lucky!! I love the Zakk Wylde guitar but miss having a tremelo!!

RunTMCfan 1 year ago
@RunTMCfan Thanks a bunch. You just reminded me of a band I used to always listen to and have not for quite some time! I will look into doing some lessons on DOTN!

Thanks a lot. Wish we had more who could teach as well as you do, and do that for free :-) Could you reveal your gear btw? Your amps, and anything else you might be using to get that sound?
roverforever 1 year ago
@roverforever Thanks a bunch! I have been told that I should charge for these lessons, but I remember how hard it was to afford lessons when I was very young and desperate to learn guitar 25 years ago. There was no internet and lessons were very expensive and most instructors lacked patience and tolerance. I plan to post many more tutorials!!
miltonautosales 1 year ago
@roverforever My electric guitar is a Zakk Wylde Edition Les Paul by Epiphone with Zakk Wylde Active EMG pickups and my amp is a Line 6 Spider II with 2 10inch Celestion Speakers. I do not use anything else to acquire this sound. The amp has a really great delay that helps out. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot, this has been extremely helpful in learning the song. I haven't been playing long but thanks to the way you've broken it all down I've got a decent grasp of it. Bonus points for including the tab.
