  • One of the best track races ever..

  • wtf they like jogged a 60s first lap...i can barely sprint that!

  • @Therachh3 train hard and you'll do it one day.

  • They ran the last 100m in about 11-12 seconds..amazing

  • @levyman97 I dont hate but America should just adopt the metric system like everybody else. Converting from km to miles because the US doesnt know how to change is sorta annoying.

  • almost unreal

    these guys are amazing

  • My younger brother is a decent middle-distance club runner- but now plans to ‘take it to the next level’- by competing as a woman!

It’s like a great biological experiment- using hormone replacements to change gender while hoping athletic performance remains unimpaired. He’s even visited IAAF HQ in Monaco to press his case, spending hours at reception on his knees & crying in desperation. Last time he was forcibly ejected & they’ve now threatened to bar him from entering the country.

  • i run 4:34 and im 13 so this is kinda depressing

  • @zzysomanyxszz you have no friends, nobody loves you

  • @zzysomanyxszz Fix your stopwatch

  • @stephenmegos i dont need to it was electronicly timed at a trial...

  • Rui Silva's last lap was insane! He was 3rd last at the bell, i remember watching the final with 150m to go that e may win. If he was even mid pack it would have been interesting to see if he would have caught them. He had so much work to do and had to run so wide around everyone. Curious as to what his last lap was.

  • Guerrouj's physical mechanics are mind-blowing. When he changes speeds, you can't see it in his legs or in his movement. He is pulling away from Lagat at the end and Lagat's body and form are falling apart. But Guerroj maintains his form. It's amazing.

  • i dont hate, but they should just go the last 100m and make it a full mile, the distance is sorta annoying lol

  • I run a 6 minute flat mile and it take A LOT of effort for me to do it, it looks like this is almost a walk for then...

  • The most incredible last 800m ever, that time of 1:46 would probably make the olympic 800 final!

  • this is depressing. It takes me six minutes... then again i am twelve. Well its still depressing..

  • Wow...I mean WOW... Solid IRON from the mother land... AFRICA... What a spirit... I know Hicham from home... He had nothing while growing up... living under level poverety... The real breave heart.

  • vaya final,

  • DAM. That Portugal guy came back like crazy in the last 400meters.

  • I like how they all hug each other at the end. No other sport would do that.

  • @Magello95 Serioulsly. In other sports people maddog each other if they lose and then they are sore winners and losers.

  • one thing i don't understand. I think that they should get rid of pace makers in the Olympics, it should be a race not a controlled pace. pref is probably turning in his grave

  • 1:46 for the last 800!! Are you kidding me??

  • @707x707 i cant even do that just running an 800 i was so proud.

  • Lol 3rd place dude rocks, Of course I'll take a 3rd place anyday behind this 2 guys.

  • Lol 3rd place dude rocks, Of course I'll take a 3rd place anyday behind this 2 guys.

  • HICHAM BENDITO SEAS QUE INSPIRACIÓN

  • The sense of relief must have been something else!!

  • the 2 people who dislike this clip must be bernard lagat's parents

  • @cigerweed i seriously laughed out loud

  • 2 people are dickheads

  • what a finish

  • Damn, the guy that came 3rd in this put in an amazing last lap.

  • el....... great .......great run

  • Rui Silva ran a 51 second last lap to finish 3rd just behind Lagat and Guerrouj. Look at where he is at the bell! If would have even ran in 3rd last all race, didnt get bumped at about midaway it could have been a huge upset. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

  • nice quality

  • The emotion he shows is contagious. Great upload thanks.

  • That last 800 meters was unbelievable. The guy who finished third (Silva) might have run the last 800 faster than El guerrouj, as he was pretty far back with two laps to go. Silva was in last with about 550 meters to go.

  • Im 12 and I run a mile in 4:12 is tha good message me if anyone got tips.

  • @467076 Stop bullshiting ppl. No one gives a shit. You don't see me posting my times on here.

  • @467076 Bullshit. 1. Anyone who runs the mile that fast knows how good they are.

    2. Anyone who runs the mile that fast knows how to train for it, and doesn't need tips.

    3. I seriously doubt anyone who uploads MW2 videos, and favorites Pokemon videos is any good of a runner.

    Take your shit elsewhere

  • @thecrudmeister i don't know anything about 467076 but i love pokemon and i'm a sub 4:30 miler

  • i would say not to burn out to fast you cant train all year round just give your self some time to recover... other then that nice job

  • damn im in jr high and their first lap was faster then my 400m sprint. i run a 58 they ran 45

  • @4EverSaintsFan

    their first lap wasn't a 45 you n00b.

that was a 300. their first lap was a 60. which is kind of slow actually.

this race was pretty slow until el guerrouj picks up the pace and runs a 53.

  • @4EverSaintsFan Seriously, I know someone already commented on you, but how stupid are you? A 45 second 400 is near an Olympic pace. How could you make such an illogical conclusion?

  • @4EverSaintsFan their first lap was a minute, their first 300 was 45

  • Comment removed

  • There were faster runners than El gerrouj, Coe and Ngeny, but his speed endurance was tops.

  • @GOATAli If they were faster they would have WR instead of El Gerrouj.

  • @467076 I meant that there were runners who were faster, as in

'top end speed.' Gerrouj had amazing speed endurance, maintaining

a fast pace over a long period. For pure top speed, Coe was faster. He was

an 800 metre specialist too remember. Ngeny has the WR for 1 Km, and he

also has a faster top end speed than El

  • Gerrouj almost lost a second consecutive gold....Close race

  • i like the camaderie too

  • الملك من المتسابقين

  • Эль-герруж - великий Спортсмен!!!

  • amazing he deserved it i knew he was gonna do well ever since i saw him break the world record for 1600m on 1999 :)

  • @ScootSkateBmxer it was a mile.

  • wow 1:46:70 for his last 800m! to put that in perspective yegos winning time of the 800m final in osaka 07 was something like 1:47 something. sure it was a tactical race but still!

  • @daveb567 I'm not trying to take away from Hichem, but let me put that 1:46.70 last 800m into perspective. He built an easy tempo for the first 700m and when he started the last 800m he was already moving, while an 800m runner would be at a static start. Also, the fact that he built a tempo would have warmed his muscles up well compared to an 800m guy who would have started out hard from the start. Again, though, 1:46 is sick and I only wish I could have known Hichem.

  • This is without a doubt the most memorable race I have ever seen. When it originally aired, I jumped up and down screaming at the TV for hicham to run harder. I was really pleased to see him win. However, being half Portuguese, I was also pleased to see Silva run so fast. He was so quick on the last lap, that had he not been last entering lap 4, I think he could have won.

  • Hicham el guerrouj is a champion!

  • Great race! Beautiful stride! A 51 second last lap? Ridiculous!!!

Great admiration and respect for Lagat and Guerrouj. You can only imagine the amounts of pain they have to go through in training to make the first 3 laps look so effortless.

  • amazing race and good sportsmanship

  • for a second there, on the last lap, i thought i was watching a race car race!!!111111111 o__O

  • wow just wow.

  • i beat my colleges record of 12 minutes last fall, i think im pretty good but seeing this guys really opened my eyes

  • it looks like it.

  • the great run of el

  • GOAT.

  • My god the are flying in the last lap!

  • benadil you cant run 3k in 2.90 seconds. no one can.its possibility be smart gosh dude

  • I ran it in 4.3 seconds last week, and I'm out of practice. I bet I could do 2.8 EZ if I ran more often.

  • wtf? r u superman or are you retarded?

  • hehe

my 400m PB time is only 1 second faster than the first 400m that they ran

  • MANIFIC HICHAM BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • hicham is the best

  • insan değilsin ya arkadaş

  • I think if Lagat had attacked 30m or so later he would've had a chance to win. But El Guerrouj was and is still the best ever over the 1500m

  • best race ever, no questoin

  • @iamreally9 yeah, it's a great race to come back and look at every few months or so.

  • @iamreally9 uh question actually genius

  • El G proved himself the greatest of all time. No way Coe or Ovett or Cram or Morceli would've stayed with him.

  • Different times, bootymanager. You can't compare athletes 20 years apart.

  • i agree, although el guerrouj didnt do 800m coe's record was possibly one of the best recorded ever, i think daniel komens 3000m is the best though, search it in youtube, goes through the first mile in 3 55 and 2000 in about 4 56

  • ok but el guerrouj ran once 3000m and was outside the WR in 3000m only 2sec 90

i am disapointed with el g he should have run 3000m and try to take the WRwhich i think was well within his reach

  • What a race!!!

  • great race

  • amazing finish. :)

  • best 1500m race ever?

    i reckon so :p

  • elG is the man!

  • Show the great man more respect Salazar, how could you write him off at the bell you dickhead.

  • 1:46.70 for the last 800... absolutely phenomenal

  • Wow

  • i agree it was pretty impresive for rui silva from 2nd to last up to get the bronze medal. but el guerrouj the best!!!!

  • Rui Silva was FAST too, he had to ran last 800m somewhere around 1:46-1:48 because when the second last lap started he was in the last place!!! and El G in front

  • 1:46.70 final 800m. enough said.

  • with a hairdo like that, you gotta be good.

  • man he was burning those last 2 laps, and i think silva ran them even faster, but this is the best race

  • still cant beilive bernard lagat didnt make the final for beijing 2008

  • these guys are crazy..im a junior in high school and i run a 4:40 1600 and that hurts like hell.. i cant imagine running faster hahaha

  • @kiwibooth I know huh.

  • @kiwibooth

he ran with an injured achilles tendon. he probably wouldve medaled if healthy

  • hicham is crazy man!!! XD

in the mile record it was so close too but he always outruns them!

  • exept in sydney also against ngeny just like in the mile wr, but yeah hicham is the best, so amazing

  • this video has made me cry many times. This is why i love the olympics.

  • Greatest middle distance runner ever

  • woww... mashallah..0_0

  • if someone asked me to explain the olympic games i think i would show them this video.

    enjoy dearest prae!

  • dude, can you see their legs? its beautiful, like theyre floating above the floor, its really inspiring to watch these people. especially when youve only been at it for 2 weeks.

  • i did the 1500m for my sports day i came 2nd cuz i was 1st for the 3 laps and used most of my energy so i cudnt sprint as fast at the end so i came 2nd... i wont the 100m and 200m after cuz im a good sprinter :P

  • Lagat had him, but El G is the king.

  • announcers/commentators have gotten worse over the years

  • I think the phonetic spelling is adequate in every language for his name since the original is in arabic/persian spelling, but the fact is that the French "Guerrouj" spelling became most popular (it might be the second native language in Morocco). For instance in Hungarian it spells "Gerúzs". Same thing goes with russian spelling, they spell English names their way in cyrillic.

  • im from porocco the spelling is right elgurouj but his first name is hicham not hikam

  • what pipepackage said is such a lie

  • jks m8 jks

  • yeah i run 346 and im only 16.. next big thing?

  • liar

  • jks m8 jks

  • haha yeh right man.

  • gosh...if u feel like shit and see this, you go up instanctly. Thanks El Guerrouj!!!!

  • wow my 1500m time is 5:29, but these guys are amazing. i wanna be an olmypic runner. Im torontos city chapion for croos country

  • yur gay

  • how are you Toronto's city champion running a 5:29? that's probably good if you're under 12 yrs old.

  • i run the 1500 at school for track

my best: 6:15 ...yikes these guys are amazing

  • I've made this my home page :)

  • Wats his story damn... Lol HEWS AMAMAMMAMZING ZOMG ZOMG

  • i heard rumors that he will come back in beijing and defend his 5000m crown

  • they make it look so easy!

  • el guerrouj retired? is there another monopoly in 08 olympics? anyone can reach 3'30?

  • im so exited to see the 2008 olympics, just a question is el guerrouj retired?

  • yes he retired in 2006.

  • thank you.

  • that's good true el guerrouj was never superior at 800,he rarely ran the 800 meter.HE ran 1500to 5000,had 5 world records ,2 indoor ,3 outdoor.second best 3000 meter time ever .even if el guerrouj was a second away from kipketer .he would probably have the 4th best time ever in the 800.sebastian coe & joaquim cruz of brazil had the second & three fastest ever.o year your full of it saying you can run 4:01 in 1500 and your twelve DUFFJO.....

  • God bless Hicham El-Guerrouj !

  • i'm a Moroccan and i swear to God i cry whenever i see this video :'( :)... i know how much Hicham suffered and a well deserved vicorty...i followed his carrer since the biggining..i cry of hapiness whenever i see this video...the greatest ever

  • me to. i'm moroccan as well, and if anyone knows his story, you would understand

  • awesome performance by EG

keep it going in all you do

    Cheers

    dave

  • this is the best 1500 meter race i have seen

  • Hicham El Guerrouj COOOOOOOL!XD

  • very rui silva last lape was about 50secs that mean that he ran the last 800m in 1m 45secs, thats incredible when we know that the 800m was won in 1m 44secs in these championships, he could have won the 800m! and also very very few people know that EL GUERROUJ MISSED THE WORD RECORD OF THE 800M by 1 sec , his best 800m is 1m 42secs (world record of Wilson Kipketer = 1m 41 secs) he was a 1500m addict otherwise he could have broen all the world records from 800 to 10000m.

  • Im very impressed by the performance of the protuguese rui silva. He was the last runner of the group but on the last lap he speeded up to become third!!!!!

  • Silva was very smart in this race, he had a very fast 400, probably under 50

  • Rui Silva's running is very impressive.

  • 1 Hicham El Guerrouj, Morocco 3:34.18s 2 Bernard Lagat, Kenya 3:34.30s 3 Rui Silva, Portugal 3:34.68s 4 Timothy Kiptanui, Kenya 3:35.61s 5 Ivan Heshko, Ukraine 3:35.82s 6 Michael East, Great Britain 3:36.33s 7 Reyes Estevez, Spain 3:36.63s 8 Gert-Jan Liefers, Netherlands 3:37.17s 9 Adil Kaouch, Morocco 3:38.26s 10 Mulugeta Wendimu, Ethiopia 3:38.33s 11 Kamal Boulahfane, Algeria 3:39.02s 12 Isaac Kiprono Songok, Kenya 3:41.72s
  • Amazing video. He is the true definition of a champion.

  • best version of this race on youtube.

    good job
