@levyman97 I dont hate but America should just adopt the metric system like everybody else. Converting from km to miles because the US doesnt know how to change is sorta annoying.
My younger brother is a decent middle-distance club runner- but now plans to ‘take it to the next level’- by competing as a woman!
It’s like a great biological experiment- using hormone replacements to change gender while hoping athletic performance remains unimpaired. He’s even visited IAAF HQ in Monaco to press his case, spending hours at reception on his knees & crying in desperation. Last time he was forcibly ejected & they’ve now threatened to bar him from entering the country.
Rui Silva's last lap was insane! He was 3rd last at the bell, i remember watching the final with 150m to go that e may win. If he was even mid pack it would have been interesting to see if he would have caught them. He had so much work to do and had to run so wide around everyone. Curious as to what his last lap was.
Guerrouj's physical mechanics are mind-blowing. When he changes speeds, you can't see it in his legs or in his movement. He is pulling away from Lagat at the end and Lagat's body and form are falling apart. But Guerroj maintains his form. It's amazing.
Wow...I mean WOW... Solid IRON from the mother land... AFRICA... What a spirit... I know Hicham from home... He had nothing while growing up... living under level poverety... The real breave heart.
one thing i don't understand. I think that they should get rid of pace makers in the Olympics, it should be a race not a controlled pace. pref is probably turning in his grave
Rui Silva ran a 51 second last lap to finish 3rd just behind Lagat and Guerrouj. Look at where he is at the bell! If would have even ran in 3rd last all race, didnt get bumped at about midaway it could have been a huge upset. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
That last 800 meters was unbelievable. The guy who finished third (Silva) might have run the last 800 faster than El guerrouj, as he was pretty far back with two laps to go. Silva was in last with about 550 meters to go.
@4EverSaintsFan Seriously, I know someone already commented on you, but how stupid are you? A 45 second 400 is near an Olympic pace. How could you make such an illogical conclusion?
wow 1:46:70 for his last 800m! to put that in perspective yegos winning time of the 800m final in osaka 07 was something like 1:47 something. sure it was a tactical race but still!
@daveb567 I'm not trying to take away from Hichem, but let me put that 1:46.70 last 800m into perspective. He built an easy tempo for the first 700m and when he started the last 800m he was already moving, while an 800m runner would be at a static start. Also, the fact that he built a tempo would have warmed his muscles up well compared to an 800m guy who would have started out hard from the start. Again, though, 1:46 is sick and I only wish I could have known Hichem.
This is without a doubt the most memorable race I have ever seen. When it originally aired, I jumped up and down screaming at the TV for hicham to run harder. I was really pleased to see him win. However, being half Portuguese, I was also pleased to see Silva run so fast. He was so quick on the last lap, that had he not been last entering lap 4, I think he could have won.
Great race! Beautiful stride! A 51 second last lap? Ridiculous!!!
Great admiration and respect for Lagat and Guerrouj. You can only imagine the amounts of pain they have to go through in training to make the first 3 laps look so effortless.
el guerrouj es el mejor atleta de todos los tiempos que pasada de tio lo que no tiene el bolo de los americanos o europeos pero esto si que es correr cuantas marcas por debajo de 3.28 tiene infinidad, es el mejor y no habra ninguno como el
i agree, although el guerrouj didnt do 800m coe's record was possibly one of the best recorded ever, i think daniel komens 3000m is the best though, search it in youtube, goes through the first mile in 3 55 and 2000 in about 4 56
Rui Silva was FAST too, he had to ran last 800m somewhere around 1:46-1:48 because when the second last lap started he was in the last place!!! and El G in front
dude, can you see their legs? its beautiful, like theyre floating above the floor, its really inspiring to watch these people. especially when youve only been at it for 2 weeks.
i did the 1500m for my sports day i came 2nd cuz i was 1st for the 3 laps and used most of my energy so i cudnt sprint as fast at the end so i came 2nd... i wont the 100m and 200m after cuz im a good sprinter :P
I think the phonetic spelling is adequate in every language for his name since the original is in arabic/persian spelling, but the fact is that the French "Guerrouj" spelling became most popular (it might be the second native language in Morocco). For instance in Hungarian it spells "Gerúzs". Same thing goes with russian spelling, they spell English names their way in cyrillic.

@467076 I meant that there were runners who were faster, as in
'top end speed.' Gerrouj had amazing speed endurance, maintaining
a fast pace over a long period. For pure top speed, Coe was faster. He was
an 800 metre specialist too remember. Ngeny has the WR for 1 Km, and he
also has a faster top end speed than El
