This episode shows that Ataru doesen't just care about Lum, it's a lot more than that.
Damn, that was really screwed up, especially since it seemed that Ataru was really giving up the skirt chasing and all, and he reveals his feelings for Lum-chan. After all that, and realizing how they messed with his head, how would they feel if that gunshot that they all heard from the TV was really Ataru offing himself, especially Lum and Shinobu?? I understand why, but really, that was going a bit too far. And why did they have to reintroduce the lech bit?
one thing, if you noticed ,Ataru and shinobi were alone wile mendo was talking to Lum, he had the perfect opertunity to seducer her again... but he didnt..... maybe he was slowly being cured.. and they just drove him to flirt again... *sips tea* .. "tis fate"
This episode is better than I remember it being. However, I don't think it's worthy of the #2 spot on the top 10 episodes list. Playing dead in order to rehabilitate Ataru seems a bit low, even for Lum, who is probably the most sympathetic and likeable character in the series. :(

This episode isn't as depressing as I remember it. It's a interesting departure from the typical UY episode, but I don't think it deserves the #2 spot. The fact that the whole plan to rehabilitate Ataru was a failure is kind of a letdown.

You could say that it was hard to tell because he could have been loosing it since it appeared his time was even closer at hand.
However, because he stayed with Lums body the whole night (at least I persume that's what happened) it appears that he did care for her the most.
