I called Tvin which was supposed to be the rights holder for this movie, but they told me that they are not and that Mosfilm owns it. I called Mosfilm's international relations office and they told me that they have no plans to release this movie on DVD in the near future. :-(

Oh? my dear english-speaking friends. Whats a pity you can't look russian version of this musical. There all the songs are more tender and lyric. There is no so hard R'n'R. The best Soviet musical of my childhood. The loved russian actors here - Misha Boyarski and Mila Gurchenko. 1976, they are so young!

The movie is based on a Romanian fairytale "The Goat and her tree small kids" by Ion Creangă. This is a Romanian movie essentially, with Russian and Romanian actors, the director of this movie was Romanian (Elisabeta Bostan) etc.

This is my favorite musical of all times. I normally don't like musicals that much (like the Hollywood ones), but this is special. Saw it the first time when I was a kid (I never forgot it), and now as an adult. Norwegian TV has began to show it at christmas time (again).

Have seen the russian version for sale at Amazon (rare), but haven't seen the english version. Luckily, I have recorded it for safe keeping, just in case...

Remember, the versions is filmed seperately.

In the Russian Version Wolf and Goat sing themselves, others, including children, are dubbed by professional singers. No idea as for the other versions.

I checked the trivia and comments page for the movie on IMDB and they filmed the english, russian and romanian version separately. So each of the language versions are really a movie on their own.

So I guess the russian actors spoke and sung in their bad english. Then it was dubbed by english actors and singers afterwards. According the ending text on the english version, the recording of the english version was made in Studio Trident, London. Beatles used that studio in the 60s.
