Actually, no. The song was written by an Ukrainian-American Jew in New York. And yes, it was written in Yiddish. It was latter translated to English by another American Jew of the same origin, but retained its Yiddish name.

Hi folks, You all talk about a 'Polosh Version' - of course, it's a Polish Orchestra playing, and yes, they play it wonderfuly (!!!) - but, what they play is not polish, but the official American print arrangement of this song, done by Jack Mason in the beginning of the 40's. It apeared at Harms Inc. / New York ... (By the way, a lovely version of this great song, we're also using this one.) Cheers!

Your comment reminded me that I have Polish version of "Close Your Eyes", quite interesting and made for 4 male voices ensamble only, 1934.

Wish the record itself was in a better shape.
