That news reporter was doing his job. FEMA took over Bolivar and wouldn't let anyone in. Perry was worried about his image since his buddy Bush's was destroyed after Katrina. There were alot of bodies afer the storm. They were still finding them months later. Crystal Beach and Gilchrist were completely wiped out and were the worst hit of Bolivar. The people have a right to know what has happened to their home and loved ones.
When it is in our country they want to block i t out hide the truth, it is happening again if you are reading this please search for Fort Calhoun nuclear power plant on the Missouri river it is surrounded by rising water they are cooling the fuel rods with the flowing river water, it is incredible the level of media blackout going on right now it is June 22 1:34 AM please search for this it is incredibly important.
i live in beaumont, and had property in bolivar, and i cant stand journalists flocking to our cities after a storm.. we allowed them during rita, and they were 10 times as thick as emergency response, and repair crews. if you weathered a storm here, you dont need to be fighting over gasoline and water shipped to the area. i cant believe this prick mentioned "ice" and "its not that hard to drive around" the roads were gone in bolivar. so was the bridge at the cut.
They kept media out because there WERE dead bodies floating in the marsh, and other places. The alligators were eating the bodies of humans, and of all the cattle that were ranched up Oyster Bayou. WOuld you want to see a dead friend or family member on the news being eaten by a gator or rotting in the sun, and have some Douchebag reporter commenting on it? HELL NO! THAT'S why they were kept out. It was a good thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@phineasgauge69 It's called Freedom of the Press. Regardless if there were casualties visible from the air, the public has a fundamental right to know what is happening around them. Your argument is ridiculous. People are old enough to judge whether they want to see potentially gruesome images. It's not Texas' responsibility to keep people from the truth, and it sure isn't the responsibility of the gov't. We have fundamental rights and freedoms, and Rick Perry was blatantly inhibiting that.
@TwinPat90 What the fuck ever. The press push the envlope and do rediculous shit just for ratings or to get their douchebag face on the GD TV, or to be THE REPORTER that brought it to you first. It's all bullshit. When the news choppers, vans, trucks, ect inhibit the first responders, or law enforcement from doing their job, they NEED to be restricted. Why do you think they dont just let reporters onto crime scenes to film whatever the fuck they want on the evening news.
@TwinPat90 And, regardless if Perry's politics, and whatnot interfered with the media, there were reasons behind it, and I guess you wouldnt understand. I'm all about freedom of expression, and my 1st amendment rights, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. My arguments arent rediculous. They carry a LOT of weight. I'm sorry you and the press feel differently. I guess if you were on the other side of the story, you'd feel differently. Did you lose anybody in Ike?
@phineasgauge69 You're missing the big picture. It's not the gov't's responsibility to tell the news media what to do. They act independently from them. That's what makes the USA different from, let's say China or more recently, Egypt. Also, no one is saying that reporters should intrude on crimes, or what have you. Don't inflate your argument by spewing crap no one else is even acknowledging. If you can't comprehend the ramifications for fund. rights being inhibited, then that's your problem.
@TwinPat90 Whatever you say, Man. You're arguing that the public has a right to know what's up. I never said they didnt have that right. You're saying the media has the right to show classless disrespectful shit just to inform the public, and exploit the hell out of people and catastrophes with so much cheese. I dont agree. It's not about censorship. You cant stand there and tell me the media do it all because they want to serve the public and inform people. Bullshit! Ratings...
@phineasgauge69 Then what is your opinion on the 9/11 attacks? Every single media outelt in the world showed footage of the planes crashing into the towers, the burning Pentagon, people jumping 105 stories, etc. The material the media shows is irrelevant. That's what you don't understand. It's the principle of having the right to inform the public. What they show is secondary to the point I'm trying to make.
I live in England but i would love to live in America with my family right now if not now then when i'm older i will be spending my life in America and i can't wait but what i'm worried about and i don't know if all the people in America worry about this when your in bed or any minute of the day is if a hurricane will start or a tornado and you are not aware of it and can't get to your basement in time.
We get floods In The U.k but there not big like yours
As far as Boliver went, I think Rick did a good job because the Peninsula had the worse damage in the area. I am all for freedom of the press, but in a crises, sometimes its better to let the situation improve before sending the news in.
Wayne "the bleeder" Dolcefino is an idiot who needs to move over to the New York Times or Washington post....where he and the other do-gooders can blow each other. Channel 13 has always had the the reputation of being a "if it bleeds, it leads, show me the gore and horror" type of news outlet. I saw your arrogance displayed recently in a Sugar Land restaurant. You, and your wife, can shove your arrogance where the sun don't shine.
man, the news media here seems to be only going after this because of the media blackout. they don't even seem to care about reporting what happened, they seem much more interested in why the politicians are trying to hide it, and are acting hellbent on casting them down as bad guys.
I went through Ike, and it's not something I want to go through again. (Hell, I hightailed it out of Texas last May before Hurricane Season back to my hometown.) My mother, her husband, my half sister's father, and I lived in San Leon. Reason people left? Noone who had been through "stronger" hurricanes could believe that a CATEGORY 2 (which Ike was) could be any worse than what they had already gone through.
@blossom114 It was a 2 when it hit land, but it was a huge storm and it was pushing a much larger storm surge that was built when it was stronger than a 2.
The media normally doesn't focus on the good parts anymore. The damage from Ike was handled a million times better than katrina. I as a Texan also know that everyone in the areas that could be definitely affected were warned and transportation was provided. You were told if you don't leave you will not be helped. There was a large death toll for the idiots who stayed. If you live on a beach, get the fuck out of the way of a hurricane.
i live twenty minutes away,i still dont know how many died.i heard stories of families washed out......i had eleven feet of water at my place for nine days.......
I happen to know for a fact that FEMA took over the one building that was left on Bolivar and that was a big school building. They were entrenched there for months when the school needed to reopen. FEMA did NOTHING to help anyone in Galveston. They also took over cell phone airspace and jammed it after the storm, it was difficult to communicate with anyone. FEMA did not need the cellphone airspace!! They weren't doing anything, but they prevented access to land, air and cellphone use.
Please don't make a broad statement like that about a state that is hugely diverse in population and in landforms. Wayne Dolcefino is an ABC investigative reporter in Houston. The kind that actually tries to report the REAL news. We get little of that anymore. I live down here, and there were entire families missing after the storm and some still missing. Over 75 percent of the city of Galveston was damaged and Bolivar Peninsula was wiped off the map. They are lying about the body count.
The news blackout was 4 bolivar&west end not the fatality #s and thats all that was revealed in this vid. There were no fatality #s 2 obscure cause reporters hadnt seen any& local officials were cleaning up& waiting 4 help not counting corpses. The gov wasnt briefed on any fatalities so none must have been found yet. Reporters r such pests why cant they stop making morbid fabrications& just let people do their jobs
dsrtflwr>> "Also, Perry sounded very reasonable in his responses. Only liberals and the media hate him. " You have got to be kidding me! His first response was to say "I don't know where you have been But I.. blah blah blah." That was his ego talking. Their are plenty of people in Texas that are not what you would call "Librals" or the Media who can't stand the man. I have met him twice in person and he makes my skin crawl. BTW I live in Galveston and sadly there are more dead then they say.
I heard from residents on Boliver because I live close to there in League City that they were loading big trucks that they made freezers out of full of bodies! Yikes. Get this they only let residents and .... Realtors..??? in to Boliver its all about the f%&cking money. My realtor friend went in she said everything was flat-end . All light poles were down. They really got the worst of the storm because they do not have a sea wall over there. She is real animated but she said it was like going.
Houston kind of sucks to begin with anyway, im glad I finally got out of there, no more having to worry about hurricanes every year, flooding everytime it rains etc, fuck that, been there and done that, had enough of it and never again thank you very much!
The fact of the matter is that everybody saw what happened with the Rita evacuation ok, and I did too, I was right in the middle of that clusterfuck, and it was a clusterfuck too make no bones about it, alot of people said fuck this, id rather ride teh damn thing out in my home than be trapped on the freeways like a bunch fo fuckin sardines the next time one hits, if you were there and in the middle of that shit you would understand too, simple as that. Cant speak too much for outer areas
I've learned since Ike there's a thing called "evacuation fatigue." You live in a hurricane-prone area, you evacuate when the authorities tell you, and over and over again, nothing happens in your area and it seems you evacuated for no reason. You decide to ride it out next time, and you do alright. And eventually, you ride out a real bad one and you realize you should have evacuated.
Also, Perry sounded very reasonable in his responses. Only liberals and the media hate him.
Rick Perry is an idiot and a flake of a politican I will admit to that, but there is alot of crap that goes down immediately after a hurricane passes and sometimes the news media are just not allowed into certaint areas for whatever reason, beyond that Im not sure?
Wayne you know you were just playing to your political side, you could not ask a hard question if you had to. Especially to your fearless leader Obama. You know they put Federal in the FAA Acro for a reason. And you forget Ray Nagan is not the mayor of Texas.
Reporters for 13 are jerks. We had a double fatality fire one night and they wanted to video the covered bodies.Got upset when we wouldnt let them.we felt that the familys wouldnt want to see it.
I owned 2 beach houses in CB and i'll NEVER forget the moment i saw the helicopter view of the area. Almost burst into tears. Very sad, what also is sad is the poor job FEMA is doing for the true citizens that live down there and call it their home
wow im sure the natives know this already but i just called the hotel accross the Flagship to see if it will open someday and they said it will NEVER open again =( so historic and now gone
FEMA literally took over the public school (Crenshaw) on Bolivar peninsula right after the storm, it was not damaged. They stayed there for months because the school kids did not get to go back there until February. I always thought it was strange that they were holed up in that school because there were no provisions there whatsoever, they would have to have been flown in from elsewhere. I was not aware that they would not even allow flyovers. That is indeed strange.
The storm hit friday night, they didnt flyover until late sunday afternoon. Apparently there were bodies floating everywhere and of course devastation. Only way down there on the ground was by kayak
Sometimes the media pushes to far. The media seens to think they deserve the keys to Heaven. Ask a news reporter if seeing dead bodies is a appropiate sight for young kids? What would they say?
Wayne Dolcefino is such a douche bag. Everyone in Texas hates him b/c he acts like a pig. Its funny to see him in person, acting like a jerk, except to young high school girls, then he lays on the fake nice guy act. Like he might get a piece. What a douchebag.
I believe in the freedom of the press but....these knuckleheads so often show inappropriate shit just to get ratings. Do you really want to show bloated bodies while the kids are watching? NEWS is general audience fellows..
Hey u little shit, i went through it first hand. Most of the people that died were old people who couldnt leave by themselves and drowned. Kids went through it. When kids were gettin pulled from the rubble guess what they saw floatin down the street. Dont be giving the texas press shit about it
Hey you big fuck, you went throught it first hand? and you think you're the only one? i live in lake jackson and have a house in san luis pass. and yes, i did saw floating bodies too. but do you really think that kids need to see this kind of stuff on tv? oh i'm sorry, i did not know that you're that stupid.
I was at my mom's hotel in the galleria when Ike struck and I have never seen a major hurricane before except for Jerry in 1989 but I don't remember I was only 4 at the time.
Sorry for the losses, glad to see that the media wasn't on the loose making Texans look as ignorant as the New Orleans folks. A tragedy is a tragedy, but I get sick of seeing poor ghetto folks crying bout their free FEMA money....
Good job Texas, shut that stupid ass media down in a tragedy!!
@rrawtry Thank you, a lot of people think we are just horse back riding people... We are normal Americans that can use our heads lol!! thanks again! :D
@SuperBlackChic Why does telling the truth have to be racist? It is known that tourists need to stay on the right streets in New Orleans or the surrounding neighborhoods may hurt them. Every big US city has these same pitfalls. They center around ghettos and the bondage of government handouts and lack of dignity of the people who "choose" this way of life. It's a shame FEMA has to step in and rescue folks. You didn't see Jap's looting and acting like animals! Ask yourself What's the difference?
@rrawtry I was deployed to Hurricane Ike and fellow soldiers and I rolled in around about 3 or 4 am to a disaster. In the days following our arrival we passed out fresh water, cold ice, and ready to eat meals. You sir used the words "choose this way of life" and I will remind you that poverty is not natural. The only conceivable way that poverty can exist is if it is created and manufactured from the get go. If you want to point the finger of blame, start with the private federal reserve!
@ciocod Poverty is created in the home. It comes from ignorance and lack of motivation. It comes from reliance on handouts and lack of hard work. Thank you for your service. However, I have to disagree with you. I myself came from a dead end. I applied myself overcoming many fatal possibilities to achieve the American dream and an awesome life. The cycle of ignorance that comes from our inner cities barrios, trailer parks and ghettos is inexcusable. It is the sole fault of the individual.
@davidpetersonharvey Wayne is a POS. I use to work for a company and he had someone dig thru our dumpster and found some old license agreements for outdated Microsoft products.. It made the mews and spun us as running illegal software... He is a POS and creates the narrative as the LEFT see's fit. We did nothing wrong but the media reported that story as fact....
BRAVO! Galveston Yacht Basin here. Also a Veteran of Advertising, Public Relations and Government Affairs. I have the utmost resoect for Wayne Dolcefino!
This is clearly a HARRP job for any of you who dont know what that is just look it up that shit can control weather and start earthquakes. this is clearly just a test of it. Those cops that told those people not to say anything about the dozens of bodies... same people who told the news to report a storm was coming. They aren't do their job why are we still doing ours??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Vitamin B-17, Patent# 5676977 ????
I've had heard it mentioned that the final count of dead and missing was near 400. I have no "official" confirmation on this number, but I will tell you that bodies were being discovered and pulled out of pits, and houses, and from under vehicles, and i has not been a pretty sight. Gov Perry is a blowhard and kudos to Wayne for busting his balls on live tv.
I live in Santa Fe TX, about 10 miles away from Galveston, luckily for me, we didn't get any storm damage to our house. Sorry to all those who lost their homes I did all i could to help w/ the relief efforts the days after the storm.
Rick Perry lies again! (no surprise, after all, he does want to be a republican president).
First he says local govt controls the airspace then its the feds (?).
Ike killed thousands in Texas, but with a national election on the line, the truth could not be told, Think Katrina vol. 2. (The Soviet Union had a less restricted media).
ALWAYS QUESTION AUTHORITY. (AND VOTE THIRD PARTY).
From what I had been hearing from some friends who were part of the search and rescue, they went into a lot of homes and found dozens of bodies, and the cops who were with them told them that "no one needs to know about this."
You go Wayne! Keep being a voice for the people. Rick Perry is a JOKE and always has been. Can't wait to vote his ass out of office. An office he has done no justice to!
Less than 50 people died in Tx.??? BULLSHiT!!........there was soooo MUCH DEAD people in Bolivar that dat Texas Government officialz wouldn't even ALLOW MEDiA in there!!!
I got power back 23 days later. But yes I do live about 20 minutes from Galveston. No cable or internet for a whole month after that. That is not comcastic.
im from beaumont and i had heard that quite a few people took cover in "the big store" off crystal and didnt survive.... does anyone know if there was any truth behind that
I had no lights for 8 days you would think the water would keep the idiots out and there is NO WAY in HELL that there were no fatalities Channel 11 and the Galveston police department Reported that a Old man was running trying to get to shelter and the a wave came and he got caught in it and it was throw 15 feet in the air
I lost lights for six days. My dad, brother and I had to stay for three days at my uncle's home in Pearland. My brother and dad work for Wal-Mart since we had no lights they brought me to work with them. I brought my laptop and cell to charge up and some movies. Thank You Wal-Mart. My dad asked the store manager, "Is it still bring your daughter to work day?"
There is no way...and i mean NO WAY there was no fatalities. My ENTIRE neighborhood was wiped down to the ground, the land my family owned now is in the ocean, and we were on the 2nd row of beach houses! I know some of my neighbors stayed and I have not heard nor seen any of them since I evacuated! It actually hurts me that they still continue to soften the fatality toll...
@saberd1 I have a feeling katrina's death toll was low too.. my girlfriend's dad was a rescue worker in N.O. in the days after and he said there were thousands of bodies being pulled from those houses and thats not counting all the poor folks in MS who stayed behind
God bless the Texas/SW Louisiana residents. I hope recovery has been going well, despite the catastrophic disaster in Galveston to the Bolivar Peninsula and the biblical flooding and surge from High Island, TX over to Terrebonne Parish, LA. Unfortunately I think the death toll is far higher than what's listed on Wikipedia. The Gulf may lie the answers. I will always be thinking of Texans and Louisianians and wishing them well, even if I'm some 800 miles away in DC.
The Wikipedia death toll (50 as of right now) is demonstrably low. There were 51 reported deaths nationally on September 17 (KHOU-TV). The same day, ABC reported "at least" 50 deaths. There have been ten bodies discovered since then in Galveston County alone (Galveston Daily News). Two weeks after Ike, there were more than 400 missing (Houston Chronicle). As of today, the Laura Recovery Center still lists 45 as missing. Thanks for your concern.
I understand where he's coming from to an extent. I ha a beach cabin down on South Jacks (for those that are from there and not pretend to be) right down he road from Joy Sands Hotel by Sharky's. Where we are coming fron is there is alot of people still unaccounted for and hell they just found a body couple weeks ago on goat island. Some people are recovered while many remain missing. I didnt watch the local news for that simple fact of seeing someone I may know floating
Wayne wants more "Wayne Time" on ABC13. Rick Perry wants to not look like an idiot for not knowing the difference in the West End and Bolivar. The National Guard, Firefighters, Texas DPS, countless OTHER volunteers are the heros here. Not the ABC13s Geraldo wannabe.
Wayne Dolcefino Is the MAN!!!!! He has always been the first one to say something is fishy when the long facist arm of the government tries to control us.
I am shocked and impressed that the journalist kept trying to get the governor to answer his question instead of dodging it. Wish that all journalists tried that hard to get to the truth.
Its simple, They couldnt get any personnel over there to remove the fatalities and they sure as heck didnt want the news over there to make that public. Its the day after the storm calm down newsguy, let the local officials make the decision to clean up what they can before they start showing bodies on camera.
It's NOT simple. This is several weeks after the storm now, and there are STILL obstacles to getting information. I know this stuff is fact, I have a very good friend that has three relatives missing down there. They've been there PERSONALLY, as have I. It's lots worse than anyone knows.
At last someone speaks up and says what we have all been saying!I have never seen anything like this..Katrina was BAD and we all know that but that is still talked about today like it happend yesterday, but we have yet to hear about Ike like that. All my Family lives in South Texas they are all ok Thank GOD but i watch the news everyday and check the internet everyday trying to find out more info about Ike!I am just so happy that this man spoke up.I think that he spoke out for alot of us!
A lot of people just dont have a clue, unless they lived it in one way or another. Katrina was a breeze compared to Ike. At least we knew and were informed about what happened with Katrina, somewhat anyway. I was nothing like this though. Everything has been kept totally quite with Ike. It give me the creeps.
Cont: The whole thing that happened in TX is wrong. The Media may be a big pain sometimes when they keep going over and over the same issue, but when the Media is kept out when a huge tragedy happens and they can't let the public know I think that is just terrible. Honestly, I don't think the Media was in there enough to let the public know what really happened with Katrina either. Not to the extent things really happened
I really don't know who this guy was that was expressing his frustration over not knowing. I know he is a reporter and he is the Media. But I am right there with him. The Media has been kept away from reality. How is the public going to make something right when the Media can't even tell the public what has gone wrong???
i think anyone who wants to stay in their homes has the right to.they know the consequences. and for those saying they put the first responders life at risk?? well if they dont like being put at risk then maybe they should get a diff. job.they are their to help the people who decide to stay or what not.everyone speaking like those people broke the law or something and deserve what they got are just manipulated by everything the media has told them. word for word to may i add :). this is AMERICA!
Wayne is an idiot and is the most despised reporter in Houston. He has no compassion for others! He only wants the 'story'. He's a disgrace and Channel 13 (ABC) should be ashamed, although I'm sure that they're not!
A reporter trying to get a story should be "ashamed" of? You'd prefer it if reporters were barred access from stories that the government didn't like - thereby leaving them and us the public in the dark? Sounds like communist Russia...
this is the same thing that happened during hurricane andrew cover-up in south florida years ago. there are numerous publications about the piles of bodies and of fema and other federal troops passing by wounded people as they lie dying. you HAVE to question when the 'government' blocks the flow of information. THATS THE POINT
Typical high-handed elitist attitude from Gov. Perry. He's a pompous jack ass who doesn't deserve to be where he is. I look forward to his term-limit end of office. It'll be a relief to be rid of the partisan, corrupt, vain prick. He's a disgrace & embarrassment to the state and people of Texas!
Journalists are protected under the Constitution because of Government itself.. Its to PROTECT the people from their government's misuse of power or government's LACK of action.. its to show people when things are going wrong.. so they demand changes!
Or rather it USED TO BE!
When the government can tell your media what they can or can not see or show... then you're on the road to getting a dictatorship or already have one!
Wayne is way out of line! he is wrong about entering Bolivar and the situation in Texas City. I live in Texas City and was with out power for two weeks, it wasnt because the goverment mishandled its resorces. I am tiered of hearing people like Wayne Dolcefino blaming and pointing fingers. FEMA was here and had plenty of ice and water. ICE..LOL some people lost EVERYTHING!!!!! and someone has the nerve to complain about not having ice or a truck being 2hours late. Wayne stay out of Texas City!
I hate reporters with a purple passion,, lieing truth strechers,,, they were not allowed in Crystal for the same reason they don't release names in a car accident til next of kin is notified.. How would you like to hear your loved one is dead on the news instead of a official coming to your house and telling you in person,,
These news people are fucking pathetic. they were told that they couldnt enter Bolivar and Crystal Beach cause they would be in the way of Search and rescue. they act as if they wanted to see dead bodies laying everywhere which by the way there wasnt. these people have no respect for authorites.
Sometimes the people in positions of "authorities" don't deserve respect. Respect has to be earned, it doesn't come as a package when you're elected to office! Rick Perry is a corrupt low-life scumbag who has used his position as Governor to enrich himself and defraud the people of Texas. He doesn't deserve "respect"!
As the late great Molly Ivins said, Rick Perry has a head of hair every Texan can be proud of. Hence her nickname for him was "Gov. Goodhair". I miss her so much!
KHOU 11 flew over Bolivar the morning after and has 45 minutes of high quality video taken from their helicopter posted on their website. It was completly destroyed. It was a peninsula, now it's three islands.
The number of people missing from bolivar is in the hundreds. These are the people that stayed for thier own reasons. I have seen the peninsula first hand. With out a doubt the government including Perry is trying to down play and manipulate the number of KNOWN fatalities from crystalbeach and bolivar.

I went through Ike, and it's not something I want to go through again. (Hell, I hightailed it out of Texas last May before Hurricane Season back to my hometown.) My mother, her husband, my half sister's father, and I lived in San Leon. Reason people left? Noone who had been through "stronger" hurricanes could believe that a CATEGORY 2 (which Ike was) could be any worse than what they had already gone through.
blossom114 1 year ago
@blossom114 It was a 2 when it hit land, but it was a huge storm and it was pushing a much larger storm surge that was built when it was stronger than a 2.

The media normally doesn't focus on the good parts anymore. The damage from Ike was handled a million times better than katrina. I as a Texan also know that everyone in the areas that could be definitely affected were warned and transportation was provided. You were told if you don't leave you will not be helped. There was a large death toll for the idiots who stayed. If you live on a beach, get the fuck out of the way of a hurricane.

SaturnOwner26 2 years ago
I've learned since Ike there's a thing called "evacuation fatigue." You live in a hurricane-prone area, you evacuate when the authorities tell you, and over and over again, nothing happens in your area and it seems you evacuated for no reason. You decide to ride it out next time, and you do alright. And eventually, you ride out a real bad one and you realize you should have evacuated.
Also, Perry sounded very reasonable in his responses. Only liberals and the media hate him.

SuperBlackChic 5 months ago
@SuperBlackChic Why does telling the truth have to be racist? It is known that tourists need to stay on the right streets in New Orleans or the surrounding neighborhoods may hurt them. Every big US city has these same pitfalls. They center around ghettos and the bondage of government handouts and lack of dignity of the people who "choose" this way of life. It's a shame FEMA has to step in and rescue folks. You didn't see Jap's looting and acting like animals! Ask yourself What's the difference?
rrawtry 5 months ago
@rrawtry I was deployed to Hurricane Ike and fellow soldiers and I rolled in around about 3 or 4 am to a disaster. In the days following our arrival we passed out fresh water, cold ice, and ready to eat meals. You sir used the words "choose this way of life" and I will remind you that poverty is not natural. The only conceivable way that poverty can exist is if it is created and manufactured from the get go. If you want to point the finger of blame, start with the private federal reserve!
ciocod 2 months ago
@ciocod Poverty is created in the home. It comes from ignorance and lack of motivation. It comes from reliance on handouts and lack of hard work. Thank you for your service. However, I have to disagree with you. I myself came from a dead end. I applied myself overcoming many fatal possibilities to achieve the American dream and an awesome life. The cycle of ignorance that comes from our inner cities barrios, trailer parks and ghettos is inexcusable. It is the sole fault of the individual.

I will always be thinking of Texans and Louisianians and wishing them well, even if I'm some 800 miles away in DC.
gwcolonial2010 3 years ago 2
The Wikipedia death toll (50 as of right now) is demonstrably low. There were 51 reported deaths nationally on September 17 (KHOU-TV). The same day, ABC reported "at least" 50 deaths. There have been ten bodies discovered since then in Galveston County alone (Galveston Daily News). Two weeks after Ike, there were more than 400 missing (Houston Chronicle). As of today, the Laura Recovery Center still lists 45 as missing. Thanks for your concern.

Its simple, They couldnt get any personnel over there to remove the fatalities and they sure as heck didnt want the news over there to make that public. Its the day after the storm calm down newsguy, let the local officials make the decision to clean up what they can before they start showing bodies on camera.
dallas1028 3 years ago
It's NOT simple. This is several weeks after the storm now, and there are STILL obstacles to getting information. I know this stuff is fact, I have a very good friend that has three relatives missing down there. They've been there PERSONALLY, as have I. It's lots worse than anyone knows.

A lot of people just dont have a clue, unless they lived it in one way or another. Katrina was a breeze compared to Ike. At least we knew and were informed about what happened with Katrina, somewhat anyway. I was nothing like this though. Everything has been kept totally quite with Ike. It give me the creeps.
spiritsmom1 3 years ago
Cont: The whole thing that happened in TX is wrong. The Media may be a big pain sometimes when they keep going over and over the same issue, but when the Media is kept out when a huge tragedy happens and they can't let the public know I think that is just terrible. Honestly, I don't think the Media was in there enough to let the public know what really happened with Katrina either. Not to the extent things really happened
spiritsmom1 3 years ago
I really don't know who this guy was that was expressing his frustration over not knowing. I know he is a reporter and he is the Media. But I am right there with him.

He has good hair, though!

When i say people stayed for there own reasons. I want to further note that there was not a choice come friday morning.

The number of people missing from bolivar is in the hundreds. These are the people that stayed for thier own reasons. I have seen the peninsula first hand. With out a doubt the government including Perry is trying to down play and manipulate the number of KNOWN fatalities from crystalbeach and bolivar.
