  • As a child when I was sick enough to stay home from school, I would get some serious tv watching done. Between the technical school and personal Injury ads, I would wrap myself on the couch and watch re-runs of Hogan's Heroes, Different Strokes, and best of all, Good Times. This was the golden age of sitcoms. Thank you so much for posting the entire series. It will keep me busy now if the thermometer says I'm sick enough to stay home from work. : )

  • blackest show ever

  • @pazeem I totally agree. I am white but grew up in a mostly poor, black neighborhood. My neighbors were like this family. When we got robbed they came by to console us and we did the same for them when they were robbed. The people doing the robbing we bad apples but we were all just trying to get by in my neighborhood. The whites who down on blacks all the time are ignorant people who never had to live through stuff like this or blame blacks for their problems when the real enemy is rich & white

  • Why do people make comments as though this is their real life; they're only characters!..It's only a show!..lol!

  • I love good times!

  • I still find this very depressing, as I did when it came out. There was some moral tone, at least. But I think the father disappeared. Well, that at least was realistic.

  • Does Florida's clothes come in any other color besides orange?

  • @FeiLong2310 Orange means work. People who like orange are obsessed with work. Doesn't make them bad, no. This goes across many cultures. They're not very original but love work.

  • @FeiLong2310 I'll bet my bottom dollar it was in her contract to wear orange, perhaps it was the color that looked best on her. I'm not sure, but she was able to do more on this show than Maude.

  • A grandmother, a sophisticated, elegant white lady had the hugest crush on John Amos. She thought he had the "most beautiful eyes."

  • how much was rent in the average poor people apt in the 1970s?

  • thelma is so fine i never understood why jj called her "ugly" all the time

  • @rodcube I agree---especially since JJ is SO freakin' ugly himself AND annoying!

  • @rodcube Sibling rivalry... Though he still loves her dearly, as does she him. Check out the last episode of the show. He designs a super hero comic book character, in her likeness. The same design that secured his financial security.

  • Michael, this ain't no time to be black... LMAOooooo

  • The first episode really looks like a stage play.

  • WOW. THE WAY MICHAEL SLAMMED THAT DOOR. (LAUGHING)

  • Does anyone remember which episode it was when Michael said something that is considered a bad word or whatever then Florida said "where did u read a word like that?' and he was like "the bible"? hahaha I can't remember...

  • @LuckyApplehead It was Too Old Blues. The word he used was adultery!

  • @elogan72 Oh yeah, thanks! Hahaha that was the best line eveeeer! :D

  • smitty from sanford and son (the mover) !

  • michael: Mama boy is a white, racist word!

florida: michael today ain't no time to be black!

    LMAO

  • Did yaul know that Ester Rolle upon her death was worth over 2 million dollars. Her house was paid for and she had a million plus in her savings.

  • I still quote lines from this episode. Florida - "Thelma I said clean, Not Lean" Thelma - "JJ, If you were born in Detroit, you would have been recalled for being dangerously ugly" Florida - "JJ, I dont want u findin it, before it gets lost" Florida - "James, your friend Monte dont know shelack from shineola"

Wilona - "6ft2, shoulders out to here and a smile that lit up the night, and he mugged me" Mover - "I know it aint as classy as Secretary of State but that job was already took."

  • I think Florida is pretty mean in this Season.

  • Thelma.....ohh the many fantasies.

  • "mama, boy is a white racist word"

"Micheal this aint no time to be black!" rofl

  • who's got thelma love? let me hear ya

  • This show was awesome until James left. There were some good moment afterwards, but it was never the same. I wish they still made shows like this, but oh well. Creativity is a lost art these days.

  • @pazeem Couldn't have been said any better. I was raised the same way.

  • funny that they are playing poor people and their rich

  • i'm with james on that i be looking at my paystubs like damn thats alot of money they taking out

  • 100 ways to warm your butt lmao

  • That is an awesome video for that game! Up ! Anyone here Xbox fans? I bet most of you are. I'm getting my copy of Xbox for free at: XBOX-FOR-FREE.IN

  • @pelmeranthony1207 The Reason Thelma is So Pretty is because I believe she is actually Wilona's Daughter. James and Wilona Had an affair. She Gets pregnant, but has no idea how to take care of a baby. And Florida was to "Churchy McPreachy" to divorce James, so she raised her as her own daughter.

  • These really were the good times weren't they. Everybody that grew up in this time, like this post. I'm ashamed to be only 13 in 2011.

  • Florida so Ugly.

  • @00:40 Pot steaming like a motherfucker but the still have their hand on it. lol

  • Ever notice they don't make good shows about poor and working folk anymore?

  • Best real show back in the day. My Peoples please smack the f*k out your kids for bein disrespectful

  • @njflavag I agree

  • Damn, If the rent was that cheap now, i'd be rich as hell

  • Rent was $104 ? damn!

  • Did Wilona have a key? James was only person to knock on the door.

  • Sometimes I watch the show and I just feel so sorry for James. His life is HARD!

  • Gary colemans voice at the very beginning! lol

  • Hal Williams played harley on the waltons

  • Love the eel part!

    -Larissa<3

  • I never understood why Florida had on a bathrobe while she was fully dressed. lololololol

  • @suenelson1024 I always wondered about that...especially since we know she just got out of bed...LOL

  • @Belgusto1 u both are dumb asses she is wearing her pajamas then her robe

  • @Belgusto1 It was likely because of the surgery and the weather. Willona mentions that it was cold. Florida was probably trying to keep warm and pad the incision area where her appendix was removed from.

  • @suenelson1024 no heat...

  • @suenelson1024 same reason why people wear pajamas and slippers outside

  • @suenelson1024 I think (at least on this episode) it's because it's freeing in the building. But that doesn't explain why the others aren't bundled up :P

  • @suenelson1024 You must never experienced an early morning in Chicago-- you wanna wear a robe, thermals, clothes, and a coat--lmao--

  • "Michael, this ain't no time to be black." ROL!

  • This must be from the 1st seaason because thy arent saying JJ, Theyre saying James Jr

  • @muchohumpty this was the first eppie of the show

  • Wow micheal

  • Those were the days when kid really respected their parent's

  • @pleasantlyheaven I agree

  • @pleasantlyheaven Or they'd get the switch. Sometimes if a cop passed by and saw you getting beat by your parents they'd offer their belt.

  • Look at hot Thelma. I'd love to Barack her Obama!

  • Michael this ain't the time to be black......HILARIOUS!!!!!!

  • THELMA WOULDA GOT IT

  • There aint no TV show like this nowadays!

  • Dyn-O-Mite!

  • haha this aint no time to be black

  • @xsoul13 this ain't no time to be black. =|

  • i have always loved the show, back then the rent was so low and dont i wish it was the same now

  • We were poor like this family but we were morally rich like this family, most African American families of the same socioeconomic status are similar to this family just the bad folks get all the press. And I apoligize to those who will take this comment the wrong way.

  • @pazeem I agree 100%.....no 1000%

  • @pazeem I happen to be "white", but think your comments are very appropriate. First and foremost, I think of everybody as God's people, which makes every other characterization insignificant. I thus do not think at all in terms of color. Likewise, if I see somebody of any "race" misbehaving, I do not hold everybody in that particular race accountable. But, I know that type of thing goes on in all "races" and it is very wrong in all cases. Thus, I do not see a thing wrong with your comments.

  • @pazeem that the truth. many good hard working families but no one pays attention to them

  • Thelma is Hot!!!

  • Thing haven't changed much, black folks still work all day for six dollars

  • He wasn't "JJ" yet...He was James Jr. this whole episode

  • WHY THELMA SO PRETTY

  • I would be up inside Wynona's crib every night. She's hot. So is Thelma.

  • Michael this ain't no time to be black lol

  • "Momma were they both beget the same way?" ROTFL

  • I love the description. The Evans were facing eviction in every episode.

  • i luv good times but like everybody else i was mad when james died....anywayz what is the name of the episode when james was sleepin on the couch wit jj an michael an jj was lik " goo night john boy" lmao that was funny

  • wow 2 whole dollars for law school! lol

  • @xsoul13 michael this aint no time to be black lol

  • James is the man

  • God damn, Thelma is hot. No makeup or nothing either.

  • Micheal this is no Time to B Black!!! LOL

  • I CANT BELIEVE HOW LITTLE THE GOT PAID..

  • @sanyo51 How much did they get paid per episode?

  • @cutecherryangel13 THE CAST WAS PAID WELL BUT I MEANT IN REAL LIFE HOW LITTLE JAMES WAS PAID ON THE STORYLINE.... IT WAS THE 70S BUT WHO KNOWS

  • tv is fun

  • @xsoul13 OH SHUT THE FUCK UP !!!! UR THE RACIST!!!!!

  • @Aceskii77 You got that right cause ain't shit on T.V. these days you know this a classic cause they still playin it I hope J J an Thelma and michael are getting decent royalties from it

  • John Amos (James) is only 8 years older than Jimmy Walker. WOW!

  • "If you wanted someone fast, you should have married OJ Simpson". Wow, ironic.

  • lol "Michael Dis Ain't No Time To Be Black" gets funny every time i watch this

  • the little kid looks like a younger version of drake

  • Florida played Dr. Beemish on The Jeffersons. George had trouble in Bed. Thelma played Jenny Willis on All In The Family.

  • Today...

    the militant

    wouldn't be the hero...

the militant would be portrayed as

    the terrorist.

    The times have changed...

    for the big time worse.

    Heros are terrorists.

  • This show is ....

    a terrorist show...

    according to the nsa.

  • I like this show

  • @simodean4 ok so

  • It looks like Ralph Carter almost broke character at 0:30.

  • @xsoul13 that is cool boy

  • i luv good times...wish it was still playing

  • "This aint time to be black" oh wow

  • @xsoul13 BULLSHIT!....FFooooLLL!..SUCKA!!!>MOTERFUCKER!!> EITHER WAY>>> YOU ARE A RACIST SON_ OF- a _ BITCH!! BBBOOOYYY!!!!!

  • ITS shows struggles of black america its great show the 70s and now our kids AND family starve asthe government gets richer black people work the hardest built america we own nothing and have no power we need more shows like this in2010 even they poor they had fun and love each other community love we need more of we need look after self than others

  • @XxValentine95Xx You are so right!!!! This show was taped 30 something years ago and still holds the truth. Even though I wasn't born in this era I still love this show. Just like the the songs says "scratching and surviving...hanging in the chow line...easy credit rip offs..." All this is still happening within the black community today. It's sad but what must continue to keep our heads up!

  • i wasnt born in the 70's,but it brings me back

  • @duhfh I FEEL U ON THAT..I WAS BORN IN 82 BUT IT TAKES ME BACK...

  • @lashondraable ha ha. takes you back to what? good times aired from 74 to 79. girl you missed it! i love it when young people say stuff like back in the day...... yalls too young to even have a day! yall are still brand new! just havng a little fun with you no offense meant.,

  • @ThePolkadotbikini -i agree with that.i hear kids today talking about back in the day. look kids back in the day was anytime before the mid 90's.2002,03,04 or 05 is not back in the day. for me that would be the 70's 80's when t.v. had so much more substance, quality, & passion unlike the ass shaking, gossip, ghetto reality bullshit that kids think life is about.as a 44 yr. old i wish i could go back in time to relive those great days and all the things that came with it. peace

  • @str8outtatexas1 Your right!

  • Comment removed

  • this show is a spinoff of maude where florida was maude's maid. i thought that maude took place in new york , so how did good times take place in chicago.

  • that one espisode where da babysitter wus gna burn da lil grl with da iron wus scary....

  • @CH33Ki3SZ69, that wasn't a babysitter, that was her mother

  • Does anybody know how much per episode they were getting paid?

  • I suppose it's not uncommon for actors in TV shows to be similar to the characters they portray. The actors who played J.J. and Michael ARE like their characters.

This is true with the actors who played Jethro Bodine (Max Baer, Jr.) and Ellie Mae Clampett (Donna Douglas) on "The Beverly Hillbillies".

    Check out all their bios.

  • jimmy walker was 27 years old when he started this show!

  • JJ looked so cute and young at 6:33.

  • I Remeber This TV Show. Good Times. :)

  • "This ain't no time to be black!!!" LMAO!!!

  • oh lord just help us through all of this oatmeal and i promise we will never ask for anything ever again...LMAO jj always making fun of thelma's cooking

  • Utter Rubbish.

  • haha The funniest part was when they was at the table & they moma called JJ boy & micheal was like "mom! Boy is a white racist word!" & the mom was like, micheal this aint no time to be black hahaha wow lol

  • LOVE this show....little michael looks like little Michael Jackson! This show is real, and honest and how all shows should be.

  • @zerolimits456, I wouldn't go as far as to say ALL shows should be this way, it depicts one particular version of reality. But depending on whose perspective you're looking at, something like the Cosby Show could be just as honest and just as real.

  • @THOUSANDAlRE I live in the real world...i know poverty. If your a kid at home in a secure family then you assume the cosby life or fresh prince life is the normal for majority black/whites.....well its not. So many people are miss led by what is true and the media/tv shows make kids believe that is that. Issues like rent, hate, drugs and violence rarely come up and if they do its in light aspects. Sitcoms want people to watch happy stuff and happy stuff is great but its not reality..

  • @zerolimits456, Once again, just because it isn't reality to YOU doesn't mean that it's not reality to someone else. I worked as an installer for many years and visited numerous houses daily. And while I've come across plenty of James Evanses, I've also come across a few Cliff Huxtables, as well as a lot of in between. So don't try and paint one picture and say that should be everyone's reality. And btw, I was raised by a single mom with 3 other siblings on a salary of $15k/yr, so I know poverty

  • I grew up watching Good Times, and still love this show! I love that the kid's mom held the family together, despite bad times. They had many hard times, but always stuck together. That is what matters.

  • Michael was a very articulate and intellegent little boy.

  • was?? :s this my first time watching this show...

  • Ebony magazine was big (in size) back then.

  • For a woman who never had kids.Esther Rolle played a mother really well

  • RIP Esther Rolle (Florida Evans), and the REAL Michael Evans (Lionel #1 from "The Jeffersons"), who as a co-creator of "Good Times" inspired the Evans family's characters!

  • Michael looks like a kid Denzel Washington there

  • you mean like prostituting?

  • THIS WAS THE FIRST EPISODE! CLASSIC!

  • Actually this was the third episode

  • I'm so lucky become i have the hold complete series on dvd

  • Hey Belgusto, thank's for posting these early first season episodes of "Good Times". You know it was weird how Florida and James while on Maude, there last name was different, then they wind up in Chicago and living in the projects with three kids. I do not think they thought this spin off through, in any case this show was in the tradition of Norman Lear, hilarious!

  • Hal Williams from "Sanford and Son" and "227". Hal Williams played another character on here years later. JJ was giving his son painting lessons.

  • james jr that is blastamous lol!!!!

  • "They only took out my appendix, not my mouth nor my fist!"

  • i remember my mom making us watch dis show when we were younger...It never gets old!!

  • I don't think John Amos ever said Esther Rolle was ugly and old -- I think he just mentioned in passing that he didn't think the 19-year age difference between him and Esther worked. I think Mr. Amos' main reason for leaving the show was that he was upset that the J.J. character had become ridiculous and was taking away the true focus of the show -- that of a struggling black family trying to make it against the odds -- and he was right.

  • And Esther Rolle also had issues with JJ's character, especially in the end. She also didn't like the idea of Carl's character.

  • how was J.J's character taking away from the show

  • personally i would say that if john amos felt that esther roll was ugly and old then i fell he was being a jerk because i really feel she was beuatiful

  • I remember watching this show when I was in junior high. I also remember reading that John Amos didn't like Esther Roll being cast as his wife. He thought she looked too old for the part and he likely thought he was better looking than she was. I must admit, she was not gorgeous, but she was a good actress and I think the show really went downhill when Amos left the show.

  • I'd love to know where you read that comment, because Amos has always spoken very highly of Esther Roll, and, after all, this show was a spin-off based on HER character from Maude. So, they obviously would be casting her. Just curious?

  • I don't remember because it was so many years ago. They didn't seem to go together though, so it's not entirely unlikely that the comment was made. Also, many actors get into arguments about their contracts & either leave or get fired so that isn't unusual either. What does suprise me is that someone as unknown as Esther Rolle was at the time would make demands about the scripts and end up leaving over them.

  • Actually Esther Rolle was well-known because she and John Amos had orignally been on "Maude" as James and Florida Evans.

  • actually on "Maude" his name was Henry for some reason.

  • @uLOVEjULZ Later on they gave "Henry" as the name of James' father

  • i like the way the audience claped when their mama come in

  • individual seasons

  • yep i love thelma did anyone know in real life bern nadette stanis is mixed of puerto rican, greek, and black ancestry?go to wikepedia u can tell just from lookin at her she is beautiful!!!!!
