  • Man I miss big dave he was tough as nails and the knicks would have never won the championship in 69 without him and thats fact.

  • even though he played a significant part of his career in New York, Dave D. will always be known as a Deeeetroiter first and foremost.

  • @vprygoski

Agreed.....and that is why the court at the University of Detroit should have been named after him rather than Vitale.

  • I remember in the early 70's watching him knocking heads with Paul Silas of the Celtics. Man, those were the days.

  • One of the greatest athletes from Detroit. He led Detroit Austin over Benton Harbor with Chet Walker to win the Michigan High School basketball championship in 1958.

  • Dave Debusschere was a Great Big Man & a Great All Around Player.

  • Either way.....we were a team loaded with future Hall of Famers! :)

  • Dave Debusschere...THE greatest knick ever!

  • He was a legend, no doubt. But you have to put into perspective he played several seasons with Detroit before he came to New York. "Greatest Knick Ever" definitely belongs to someone who had a long career with the team, like Ewing or Frazier. Just my 2 cents.

  • ok.. that's legit, but even Red Holtzman said that acquiring debusschere was the key that was final piece of the puzzle that brought them 2 titles. Patrick...no titles. Clyde was also a fav of mine. I guess i just "favored" dave more. Have a great day! :)

  • The pride of both Detroit Austin Catholic High School and Courville Street on the east side of Detroit.

  • Even though the Celtics ruled basketball, the Knicks get more press and credit just because they play in New York. The Knicks have won a few times, but Boston has more champiionships and have a much better history. The Knicks last title was 35 seasons ago...

  • debusschere from corner. . . yes-s-s-s-s-s-s-s!

  • Great team in 1973..5 hall of famers in the starting lineup..Throw in Phil Jackson( with his white boy afro as a HOF coach),and you've got 6

  • Double-D gave New York it's inside defense for two championships. A great player, never heard a bad word about him.
