John Piper - Is it important for me to become a member of my local church?

I completely agree with the idea that we should commit to a group of people and do ministry with them, I can't however accept that membership is a piece of paper or being included in the church phone directory. That's what I fight. I've served at the same church for years and years in tons of ministries, but I avoid the membership papers. I'm a member because I choose to do ministry here, not because I signed a document.

I am a member of my family and my community. If I refuse to be a member of a Local Church it is like forsaking my family and living only as a member of my community.

The word CHURCH is one of the most misunderstood & abused words in the Bible.

The original word in GREEK is Ekklesia = called out ones. King James the 1st made an EDICT for the translation of the King James Bible. He said CHURCH must remain !!! It is obvious to me why. I will let you work it out. There is only ONE body according to Jesus & they are those who believe in him & his Word.

Church will kill. Denominations will kill. Control will kill. Only faith in Jesus Christ can give life !

@Romans1014Preach For one who have' a body. He Must glory the lord of Host. For man cannot glory his own body. But that God be with him. For what is he without God. And what is a church, It prays to the fleash,but not to God that made it all for his glory. Jeremiah 17v5-12k k jv It is like a white horse, the righteousness of God is upon him. We have a lot more to say unto each other. One in God and God alone.

where about the Bible talks about being a "member" in the local church?

if anybody is in the body of Christ what being a "member" in a local church means?...

Or, I'm a person who sits on a pew, as the ministry goes through the local leader of a church, I give my tithe, as the ministry goes through the headship or leader.

That is not being a member of Jesus Christ. that is being a follower of man. Search the scriptures and you will be free of men.

We are not suppose to have a pastor as our go between. No one is to be our head or covering only Christ!

Now you now i dont belive in god on christian way no longer but i can't say up mebership is my birth paper i can't change way goveerment works.

One more thing a real beliver christian way shouud be there help peaople not be lockd in a church doing notihing.

I wanted to join my local church, because I think it is an important thing for spiritual growth. I think a newly saved individual needs to join a bible believing church to be edified, and grow.
